We chose Reading to stay for convenience of train travel to London during our trip through UK. Although a little hard to find, the hosts Doug and Cath were very welcoming and helpful. Lovely clean room and very comfortable bed. We were a little alarmed at finding ear plugs on the bedside tables, but didn't need them (luckily). Wonderful breakfast...

Needed to stay in Reading for 6 weeks due to a recent job move, wanted somewhere that could be both relaxing as well as the need to work for a few hours in the evenings on occasions so a decent high speed internet access was a must. Well I can say that Amhurst satisfied all of this very well indeed....

I've only just found this lovely guest house, just a short walk from the town, after working away in Reading for a while now - and I really wish I had found it before! Doug and Cath are so welcoming, the rooms are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The fridge and microwave in each room are a great addition too....

I've used Amherst for several months as I work in Reading. It's like a home from home as it's relaxed and Doug & Cath will meet all (reasonable!) requests. Russell St is conveniently off the main Reading Roads while being a few minutes walk from the town centre. It has some on site parking (which has always been more than...

Staying this long provides a good experience of any hotel or B&B... and I can say that both times, the facilities and service were Excellent. One of the most important reasons...

We stayed for 8 nights at the end of June for a mixture of business and pleasure - I had a conference in Reading while my wife did some sightseeing and saw friends in the general London area. We chose Amherst based on Tripadvisor reviews. It turned out to be just what we wanted. Cath and Doug were helpful and...

Fantastic reception from both Cath and Doug. They bent head over heals to help me through my stay. Even provided me with parking tickets for free. The room surprisingly clean and cosy, the bed comfortable. Had a really good night sleep. Breakfast was 1st class. Very good value for money. Looking forward to my next visit.

This was our first time to stay at Amherst and we would not hesitate to stay there again. It was a wonderful experience. We had a large, immaculate room in which everything that could be provided was provided. Doug was most helpful in printing off a map giving directions to the place we wanted to go. Breakfast was outstanding. It...
