We were able to book the whole of the Bear for 24 hours (from 11.00am on Saturday to 11.00am on Sunday) as the base for our daughter's wedding. Jeremy, Lubos and their whole team did us proud. The rooms in the main building are an example of cleverly updated period accommodation, while the outside rooms have been converted from former...

Room 1 & 2 are a up a set of fairly steep steps outside. Very modern bedroom room with built in fridge (and fresh daily milk). High quality clean bedroom. Five stars for restaurant with...

We chose to have lunch at the Bear and Ragged Staff in Cumnor as the trusted Tripadvisor community thought well of it. On arrival, its setting made us feel we were in the countryside, with ample parking. For use in the warmer times of year, there is seating outside, and also a fenced off play area for children with swings...

Our family of five stayed here on our way to Wales and we booked the family room on the top floor. All aspects of the room were pleasing. The restaurant served delicious food for mom and dad while the teens enjoyed pizza in the large room upstairs. Can't wait to visit again!

We would give 5 for our evening meal here. There was a new chef in the last couple of weeks, and he came out to speak to diners for feedback. Everything we had was lovely, and the service was excellent. The dining room and conservatory are both really lovely spaces. Breakfast was quite good also. We would go with a...

My wife and I decided to celebrate the coming of 2017 on New Years eve by going for lunch at the B&RS in Cumnor. We have been to this pub often, both for dinner & lunch and have never been disappointed. On this occasion we were as ever, very impressed with the whole visit. The service was slick, very friendly,...

What a beautiful little hotel/pub this is with a long and interesting history. The welcome was warming, the food was beautiful and the service was nice. Comfortable bed, quite and warm room, however watch the door heights!!! Smacked my head and can confirm the timber is very solid!!! Tip: if staying in the rooms above the bar and restaurant pack...

We stayed for one night to visit the Christmas market in Oxford (which for anyone interested, the market is very small and the Bath Christmas market is far, far superior). The bar is very cosy and as it was Christmas time they had the lights on and decorations up. Staff were friendly enough but the girl who showed us to...

I had high expectations for a fantastic New Year full English breakfast, but I have to be totally blunt and say that I was very disappointed. At almost £10 per breakfast I presumed that the ingredients would be of a decent quality, but I think we would have got similar at a motorway service station. Attention to service was minimal,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Not only does the Bear and Ragged Staff serve fantastic food throughout the day, its conversion to a Country Inn is complete with the opening in December 2012 of the last five of nine rooms. The Bear is now in a position to offer a full suite of services to the discerning traveler whether on business or just looking for a home away from home for a few days. Our food ethos can be summed up very simply, local where possible, absolutely fresh, prepared in our own kitchen. The Bear's food offering can best be described as eclectic, mainly British food, prepared with loving care and attention in well equipped kitchens, beautifully presented and served by well trained floor staff. And all this with a wine list carefully selected for quality and value. ... more   less
