The Inn has character and was cheap but to be frank is shabby, not very clean and the bed was the worst we have slept in for years. I expected some rustic but not this. The shower didnt adjust, fine if you are 4 foot tall, two light bulbs had blown, grime in the sink and shower, just poor. It...

We booked here for one night as a treat as I've always wanted to visit York. It's a very olde worldly inn with creaky uneven floors which I loved. You can feel the history of the place as soon as you walk in and we were told it's haunted ! I loved the shabby look and the room was sympathetically...

We've wanted to stay here for a while now and as we like to visit York or Harrogate in January we thought we'd book here. Booked a four poster room with breakfast on a special rate if you book over the phone. When we arrived we were greeted quickly, check in was done within minutes. Room 3 was a lovely...

We aim to visit York each year leading up to Christmas. On previous visits, we have stayed at Guy Fawkes sister hotel The Lamb and Lion which is literally a few hundred yards away. The check in procedure is very odd in that there is no specific reception area and you need to push through crowds drinking at the bar...

We took our history mad 10 year old grandson for a night here after panto trip on 27th Dec. it had been recommended by a friend, The history and atmosphere of the building speaks for itself. Our room no 1 on first floor above the bar was buzzing with Christmas revellers. We could hear all the jollity and wondered if...

Ok, so this bar has a great view but beyond that it's a bit shabby. We love the theme and their ideas but needs upgrading to a standard for the prices charged. Everything seems thrown together without much care. I asked for a sauvignon blanc (white) and the bar girl said we only have merlot or shiraz (red) surely they...

Thankyou for your review. im sorry that you did not enjoy your visit. Our prices are continually compared to those in the surrounding areas. Unfortunately not all new members of staff come as trained wine connoisseurs and i can only assume that she thought you had said cabernet sauvignon. we do get very busy and sometimes its not always easy...

My husband and I have in the past stayed at the sister hotel Marmadukes but on this occasion (2nd December) decided to say at GFI and booked the four poster room on the first floor (room 4). Overall the service and atmosphere was very good, we really enjoyed the meal we had in the evening and the breakfast were great...

Thankyou for your review. Im sorry that on this occasion you feel you werent entirely satisfied. It is very uncommon for our showers to not be hot and if we had of know this at the time we could have boosted the water system. The hairdryer has now been replaced, as you can imagine they do get used frequently and...

ok so this place is right next to the minster, and it was packed, only had several glasses of large red wines, before food. but we didn't eat here as it was full. Two large wines was around £17-£18, which I know is expensive. Would we go back .....yes after all Guy Fawkes was born here.

Thankyou for your review. I would also feel that £18 would be very expensive for 2 large glasses of wine, our most expensive red by the glass is £7.50 so it would have been £15 if you had of gone for the malbec. we do compare our prices to our surrounding competition so do feel we are not out of...

This hotel is in a fantastic location right in the centre of York. Bit underwhelmed by the room to be honest bed was so creaky not much room had to walk sideways to get past the bed the rooms were clean bathroom needed updating few cracks in the tiles and a really cheap toilet seat must of been bad for...

Thankyou for your review. The room that you booked is the small executive, which is the smallest in the house, we do have some much more spacious rooms available. If you decide you would like to stay again then i would recommend booking one of our deluxe rooms. They are much more spacious if staying for a couple of days....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Guy Fawkes Inn stands next to York Minster and was the birthplace of the notorious plotter, Guy Fawkes. The Inn offers 4-star rooms with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and home-cooked, AA Rosette food. Decorate with antique furniture and Italian fabrics, the rooms feature handmade beds, tea/coffee making facilities and bathrooms with complimentary toiletries from H2K of Harrogate. Many rooms have views of York Minster, the city or the courtyard towards the rear of the Inn where Guy Fawkes was born. The Guy Fawkes Inn retains many original features including the timber staircase, gas lighting and real log fires. Dine by candlelight in the Inn's restaurant, which serves traditional pub-food using locally sourced ingredients. The bar stocks a wide range of real ales and a broad selection of wines. The world famous Ghost Walk leaves every night just around the corner. York Theatre Royal and the National Railway Museum are both just a 5-minute walk away. ... more   less
