This hotel has one of the best locations in York, opposite Clifford's Tower. OK, a view of the Minster and the river might be better, but rooms facing the Tower are still a great location.
I wonder whether this location and the restrictions on building in such a sensitive area have put off Hilton from upgrading the hotel? The deluxe rooms, at least the one I had, felt tired. The bathrooms are way too small, and these days not even being offered the choice of a walk-in shower or bath tub meas you have the compromise of a shower over the bath and a flapping curtain.
Staff do their best, and are generally helpful and friendly in my experience. Breakfast it what you would expect, with lots of 'milk' alternatives, but few 'preserves' for your toast.
Welcome box in superior rooms isn't very healthy, [perhaps you could be asked whether you would like a healthy option or the one with crisps, peanuts and kitkats that I found in my room on arrival: no fruit at all?
Why is the in-room kettle not located anywhere near a plug?
If you look closely, areas such as the woodwork around the door frame are beginning to show their age.
Double glazing isn't really good enough, as shouting from party of youths woke me in the early hours, and during the day the sound of the pneumatic drill from the roadworks could be clearly heard from within the room.

Mini break, away from London, location is great, right in the center, walked from York station in 17 minutes, by taxi, less than 5 minutes, cost about £5. Room comfortable, no fridge, good house keeping, but they don't top up the toiletries, we have to keep asking reception for extra toilet paper/shower cap/shampoo/shower gel and sleepers. Another down point, buffet breakfast! Very limited items available, everything need to ask, drinks/juice/sugar/salt & pepper, when I asked for white toast with butter and strawberry jam, the serving lady, her English not very good, she doesn't understand what I wanted? Even when I need sweetener, she doesn't understand what is it? Asked for apple, she gave me yogurt??? Hilton need to train staff properly with a bit more understanding English. After checked out, no storage for luggage, a bit difficult to carry luggage before head back to London. Overall, reception really friendly, room clean. Breakfast not really not worth it if it is not included.

Recently returned from my first stay at a Hilton Hotel. The location is perfect for a stay in York and the public areas and rooms were very clean and well maintained. I took advantage of being able to check in and pick my own room through Hilton Honours but when I arrived was then again checked in by George and was told that I would be moved to a better room, even though the room I chose and the room I was moved to wwere exactly the same standard. I had chosen a room on the third floor overlooking Clifford's Tower but was moved to a room on the second floor where the tower was completely obscured by a large tree, and we were then right outside the entrance to the public car park nearby so had traffic noise but you don't realise these things when reception calls your room within minutes of having arrived to ask if all is OK.

I had e-mailed the hotel ahead of my arrival to ask for a restaurant reservation and the night manager confirmed that this had been done, but on arriving at the restaurant there was no reservation for us.

On checking out and asking for confirmation of my final bill I was quoted a figure that was higher than it should have been so got this corrected before I left although the receptionist did confirm that it was her mistake trying to work things out in her head.

Despite those minor frustrations I found every member of staff to be helpful and polite and if you are looking for a York city centre hotel then you just can't fault this one for location and cleanliness.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay to celebrate my 65th birthday and we were extremely happy with our experience. The location of The Hilton is fantastic of course with Clifford’s Tower right outside the door and some great restaurants immediately to the right. We loved The Olive Tree by the way.

The staff were extremely polite and very, very helpful. Full Covid safe measures are in place of course so you do need to wear your face mask in the public areas of the hotel.

We booked a room with two double beds for maximum comfort and we loved it. The only issue was difficulty getting hot water in the shower since our room was right at one end of the hotel but is was really, really quiet which we wanted. Some reviews mention rather dated rooms but ours was just fine. The wifi reception was spot on and the connection was speedy.

Breakfast is fully Covid-safe too with tables really well spaced. The staff explain the procedure in great detail on your first trip.

There are no fried or poached eggs only scrambled for Covid-safety reasons. A staff member serves items from the hot buffet. There is a small selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts etc to start with and a toaster to make your own toast from bread which is individually sealed for safety too.

The buffet quality was similar to breakfast buffets everywhere, not outstanding but perfectly adequate. We both enjoyed it anyway.

We came by train not car as their valet only parking is a staggering £25 per day. York parking prices are not cheap.

The Jorvik Centre is just minutes away from the Hilton and you’re in a great position for a lovely river walk by the Ouse just to the right by the local restaurants.

We stayed here as a couple during a recent short 4 day break to York. We had booked ahead on-line and the whole process went smoothly with no hassle what so ever! This Hotel was chosen due to the ease of access to the local tourist attractions. We had booked the Burlington Room, which is one of three rooms at the front of the hotel that have a balcony and an utterly fantastic uninterrupted view of Clifford's Tower (which lit up different colours during the evenings) The room was lovely and clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was powerful and hot. We had booked 'Valet Parking' so obviously knew not only was our car safe, we didn't have the hassle of driving around searching for a space! I think the cost was £25, which I found perfectly reasonable for the peace of mind alone that our car was secure during our stay.

I have nothing but praise for every single member of staff that we encountered. These are difficult and challenging times we are all in, but the staff here actually go out of their way to be pleasant, helpful and respectful. Without wishing to single any member of staff out for special treatment, I must say that I really did admire the resolve and patience of the serving lady behind the breakfast bar! No matter how ignorant, miserable or damn right rude a guest she was faced with, she just continued to smile and greet everyone with a very cheery 'Good Morning' The Staff of any business are seen as 'Ambassadors' for that business and the Hilton York Staff are very good examples of that.

I have no hesitation at all in recommending this Hotel to others and would definitely stay there again should we visit York in the future.

We booked for two nights, and opted to book via the Hilton App, being an HHonours Member, and we stayed as a couple in a one bedroom suite (240), which was quite nice having windows to both sides of the hotel, the room was spacious and nicely appointed, a welcome tray was waiting for us on arrival. The living area has a sofa which can be turned into a bed, so is quite handy to know if ever needed. There are TV's in both rooms with all the major channels, robes and slippers were on the bed.

We used the Hotel Valet Parking, and it was quick and easy and in fact after leaving the car with them on Friday evening, we didn't see the car again until Sunday afternoon.

As I used the Hilton App to get a great room rate, breakfast was added on arrival, and that was the only meal we really had at the hotel, and breakfast was good, there was enough choice and variety.

All the staff were excellent throughout, being polite and helpful during our stay.

Would recommend and would stay again, well done.

I booked these rooms in the Hilton January sale and it was excellent value. I booked 3 rooms - the twin room (£86 per night including breakfast) facing the rear of the hotel was quite dark, whereas the rooms facing Clifford’s Tower were brighter, although the standard double room (£90 including breakfast) had a much bigger window than the deluxe double (£106 including breakfast), so the standard double was much brighter and felt more spacious. All were very comfortable with tea making facilities, a safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. I was surprised that there wasn’t a small fridge in the rooms.

The road at the front of the hotel was quiet. Valet parking was available, but we used the car park which was across the road as it was only £2 to park from 6pm to 8am.

We only ate breakfast in the hotel - this was excellent with a wide range of food available, including freshly poached eggs with the hot food.

All the staff were friendly, approachable and very helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

On check out this morning the receptionist asked how my stay was. I Pointed out that the carpet was filthy. There is no excuse for this after months of being closed when it could have been deep cleaned or ideally replaced. The rooms are dull, corporate and dated and the walls are paper thin. I could hear every sound in the adding room and corridor. I booked a premium room with balcony doors for fresh air but the noise from the crowds on Cliffords tower at pub closing time made it impossible to keep them open. Whilst this is not the hotel's fault potential guests need to be aware that it is a noisy location even during covid 10pm curfew! The two staff I encountered were friendly and helpful but I stay in York regularly and wouldn't book this Hilton again. At £120 for a Wednesday night in winter it's expensive for such basic accommodation and there are several very good hotels in york at the same price point or less. Having stayed in these lately they clearly value their guests more at this difficult time by at least providing clean and welcoming rooms.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay. The location of The Hilton is great with Clifford’s Tower right outside the door (if you can see it). We booked a Delux Double room with a View. It says on the website that you have a view of Clifford's Tower. However from our window all we had was a view of a car park and a huge tree that completely obscured the view of the tower. I understand that they don't have responsibility of the tree but to advertise that you will have a view of the tower is misleading to say the least.

The staff were extremely polite and welcoming. Full Covid safe measures are in place and pretty much adhered to with regard to distancing and mask wearing.
Entering the room it stated that everything is sanitised according to Covid guidelines. That frequently used items like TV remote, light switches etc are cleaned. Well, if they had been then they were the only things that were wiped down as there was dust bunnies on the ledges in the bathroom, the bathroom floor still had hair and dust behind the door, the TV stand had a thick layer of dust as did the telephone. The window had the sealant falling out around the frame so it allowed the street noise through and the decor was tatty.
Plus point.. the pillows were lovely and comfy.
Breakfast is Covid-safe too with tables well spaced. The staff explain the procedure on your first visit.

A staff member serves items from the hot buffet. The lady that serves the breakfast was always welcoming, chatty and pleasant.

The hotel is very well situated, with most of the attractions within a 10 minute walk.

The Jorvik Centre, Chocolate Story, York Dungeons and Castle Museum are literally minutes away and the River Ouse and the River Cruise boasts, just a few minutes further.

There are plenty of pubs and restaurants close by but obviously it is recommended that you book at the moment.

Can't comment on the Hotel/Rooms side of things, but did have Afternoon Tea recently.
Booking was easy and arrived a wee bit earlier than had planned, fairly quiet so advised we could have a seat earlier than our booked time.
Staff at arrival was very friendly, showed us to our table and asked whether we had any food allergies/requirements. Having advised none, asked whether we wanted Tea or Coffees. Lovely pot of tea arrived shortly after, piping hot and tasty.
Food element was there ten minutes or so later, with a request if we required a top up of tea, to just ask.
Food was presented beautifully. Sandwiches were lovely, cucumber with mint (I think), ham with mustard, salmon and one other, but can't recall. All tasty, fresh bread and nice fillings.
Beautiful warm scones with Jam and Clotted Cream. Can honestly say best scones I have had in years. Soft, flavoursome and warm.
Various other little cakes all lovely. Couldn't eat them all and were offered a take out bag.
Personally for me, I would have preferred less cakes and a little extra sandwiches - but it is after all afternoon tea and most probably prefer the other way round.
Staff were all helpful, polite and for me most of all not too intrusive. Asked once if everything was to our satisfaction and then said to ask if we needed anything else. Restaraunt area was modern, clean - again personal preference would have been a change in music to quieter background music.
Overall lovely visit.

Dean, I think this answer may come too late? The Hilton has its own car park (valet parking) and I think charges about £15 per day which I thought was a bit steep. Parking in York is more costly in some places than others. Depending when you might need the car next, could you look up the Park and Ride options taking visitors from the free parking on the outskirts of York to the Museum - and just walk across the carpark from the bus to the hotel, if your case has wheels?
