Description
Now part of the National Trust - all profits donated to the charity. Overlooking York Racecourse, Middlethorpe Hall is close to the city of York yet enjoys 20 acres of its own peaceful gardens and More parkland. It has an award-winning restaurant, the Oak Dining Room, and a heavenly spa with swimming pool. Decorated in traditional country house style, Middlethorpe is furnished with antiques and fine paintings consistent with the period of the house. Beautifully appointed bedrooms are located in the main house and the 18th-century courtyard. Less

My husband and I stayed here for two very restful nights. The room, in the courtyard, was excellent - extremely comfortable. Top quality furnishings all very tasteful. The ambience in the main Hall was just wonderful. All staff totally delightful. The meals & service in the resta

Stayed for a coupled weekend away, the staff were very helpful and polite and the house itself is very nice. The food was comparable to a decent enough restaurant although the portion sizes were disappointing. My only criticism is that the house itself is very quiet in the drawin

This place is rated number 2 hotel in York. As you can imagine, it's really great. Hard to think of a fault. On arrival the concierge was very welcoming and down to earth. We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. It was very homely. Breakfast was in the main house and nice and t

What a fantastic experience. We had a night at Middlethorpe Hall for our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, we found that we had been upgraded to a suite from a double room. The Hall is great and our suite was really homely and comfortable.

The National Trust do these things called passport stamps where you have a passport and you go around different National Trust properties and you can get stamps put in your passport at every single property. Do you know if there is a stamp for Middlethorpe Hall?
Thank you for your further message. As an hotel, restaurant and spa, Middlethorpe Hall is not part of this specific National Trust scheme. Please refer to the National Trust handbook which is published annually for further details. I hope the above is helpful.

Can you still go in some of the rooms?
Thank you for your further message. Middlethorpe Hall is not a property for visitor to come and discover/tour as an 'attraction' but a working hotel. Some of the ground floor rooms are available for guests to dine or take afternoon tea. I hope this is helpful

Is there a guidebook about Middlethorpe Hall on sale at the hotel?
Good evening and thank you for your message. A National Trust published book is available to purchase at the reception desk, describing the history of the hall and its gardens.

1)How do I get to the city centre? Are there bus routes nearby? 2)Is there a variety of decent restaurants nearby? Thank you for any replies!
Hi Yes there's an hourly bus service from just outside the hotel to the centre of York which takes about 15 to 20 minutes. There are no nearby restaurants but York is very close by. You can walk to the centre in about 45 minutes

What are the portion sizes like for the evening meals we have healthy appetites and wonder if they would be substantial enough
We had a lunch and found the meal presented was sufficient and exceeded our expectations. Taste over quantity so you eat more slowly and I think you have side dishes of vegetables so it’s not just the “ main “ plate. Why don’t you try the lunch first? I don’t think either way you will be disappointed.
