We went away with Shearings on a five day coach break. We had a wonderful time at the Bay Royal Hotel. The room was very pleasant with really comfortable beds. The food was excellent from breakfast to evening meals, with a choice for breakfast including cereals, yogurts, porridge, fruit juices and full cooked breakfasts and kippers. Toast and jams, marmalade....

This hotel was probably extremely beautiful in its day but it's looking tired now. We upgraded our room so had a sea view and quite modern room but I don't know what the rest would be like . It is an extremely cold hotel especially if you sit near to any windows. The radiators were on in the downstairs area...

Impressive to look at and in a superb location. Parking fortunately available due to the time of year. Check in was smooth apart from extremely rude guests pushing in and the situation handled well by the receptionist. Our room was clean and very basic, certainly no frills. The shower over bath is all very well but some sort of grab...

We stayed here for two nights between Xmas and New Year, after booking with National Holidays. It’s a grand old hotel, in a superb location on Whitby’s West Cliff, with stunning views across to the church and abbey, and of the harbour below. There is definitely an old-fashioned feel to the revolving-door in the entrance, as well as to the...

I stayed on an off season weekend trip. No problems whatsoever to report. Friendly staff, spotless room, and a really warming traditional feel. Very decent free cabaret entertainment on the evening. Warm throughout, and they even heat the stair wells. Attentive restaurant staff, and just a problem free stay at a very fair price.

Arrived at the hotel and were quickly allocated our room on the 3rd floor, there was a sea view but any other view was obliterated by a concrete type balcony. The room was very clean and there was fresh fruit, Prosecco and a miniature whiskey, and usual beverages and a kettle. The food was very good and the waiting staff...

Thank you for sharing your review. I appreciate your comments regarding our waiting staff and Steve. They all work incredibly hard and I'm pleased to see their efforts were noticed. Yes, we did start taking the decorations down on the morning of departure which as I'm sure you can appreciate is a big task but our guests are more than...

We travelled with Shearings for NYE party and it was just excellent. Reception efficient and friendly as were all of the staff. The hotel is old but kept spotlessly clean as were the bedrooms and bed linen and towels. Extra hooks for outdoor clothes in the bedroom would be very welcome. The ballroom for New Years eve celebration was a...

Thank you for the 5* review. I'm delighted to see you enjoyed your New Years break with us and we ticked the box throughout. I will be sure to pass your comments to all and Heidi certainly did a great job with the decorations. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Royal soon. All the best for 2017...

We spent New Year at this hotel traveling with Shearings, for the last few years fellow travellers have told us how good this hotel was, so we booked a four day break over New Year. When we arrived at the hotel we noticed about twenty oil heaters in reception, by 3 o'clock on the day of arrival we had acquired...

I'm sorry to see you were disappointed with aspects of your stay with us. The heaters that you noticed in reception were en route to one of our other hotels and not due to an issue in our hotel. We do offer additional heating if required and I'm glad this was the case in your experience. I am surprised at...

We travelled with National Holidays and had a lovely 3 day break, upon arrival we were given room 141 (Premier Room) and what a wonderful surprise we had when entering the room, 4 poster bed, settee which looked out over Whitby, a new bathroom, it was marvellous ! The staff in the restaurant are excellent, they work so hard and...

I stayed for 2 nights at the Bay Royal and it was one of the strangest experiences of my life. It was adequately clean and the restaurant staff were nice, but the reception staff and management were...peculiar. I arrived at 3pm (check in time) to find an inordinately long queue of people waiting to get their keys. I later found...

Thank you for sharing your review. Firstly I must state that no single group of guests receive preferential treatment over any other. On the day in question we had the full hotel departing in the morning up until 12 noon and 5 coaches arriving from 11.30am onwards. All guests were checked in at the time of their arrival and advised...
