The Premier Inn Norwich Nelson City Centre hotel garners praise for its prime location near the river and local attractions, though parking fees are a sticking point for some. While guests often appreciate the spaciousness and decor of the rooms, opinions on cleanliness and maintenance vary, with particular mention of room temperature control.
The service stands out as friendly and responsive, and the Premier Plus rooms are popular for their additional amenities and views. However, travelers report mixed feelings about the hotel's overall value and atmosphere.

Detailed Reviews
Everything you could need right on your doorstep - really good location but still quiet so sleeping was also easy.
Walkable to the main town, within 5 mins you're in the town with some great eateries and cafes.
Parking very simple too, although you have to pay, you can come and go as you please and there was plenty of spaces available.
Wifi was good too - just ask for a room with good wifi is this is your need.
Dee on Reception was really good to me - really warm and friendly and eager to help, thank you Dee.
Michael in maintenance was also really good to me, I felt truly looked after!
Separate Costa as well which was very convenient and with great views too.
Would happily stay here again.

Myself and my Wife stayed for one night, the room was ok to be fair. We had booked breakfast as well for both of us which cost £18 extra on top of the room.
We had our table booked for a certain time, we were shown to a reserved table whilst our table was cleared and cleaned. The table was cleaned by an employee wearing a mask and apron which was not tied and no gloves. He quickly cleaned the table but failed to clean the touch points on the chairs. The female attending taking the orders for our breakfast forgot to mention that there were no mushrooms or black pudding available and forgot about the beans as well, she also forgot the glasses for our juice, forgot what bread we wanted for toast and forgot the additional toast for marmalade I had requested. Breakfast took ages to arrive and everything was over cooked! Other tables were waiting a long time to be served and people were becoming impatient with Julie our hostess. She was clearly under pressure and couldn’t cope. Outside the restaurant there was a queue, people were following the social distancing stickers on the floor however other people were totally oblivious and were not following the signs and arrows whilst people leaving had to pass in close proximity to the guests waiting to enter! They were not challenged by any of the staff.
So although the room was cheap and cheerful avoid the breakfast at all costs and be careful of the rats running about outside by the dining tables next to the river in the evening!!
Nice location though.

Decided to stay at this Premier Inn as we had been before and been very pleased with our stay. This time it was to celebrate a birthday and meet family. Within 5 minutes of checking in, Reception turned up at our door with a bottle of wine, box of chocs and glasses, such a lovely gesture. Our room overlooked the car park and on inquiring if another might be available we were quickly offered a room overlooking the river with a balcony. The staff at this hotel have been friendly, helpful and efficient on both our visits, the location is spot on, being close enough to walk into the shopping area and to the cathedral and also just over the river from the leisure complex with many restaurants, cinema and bowling alley. Also only half hour away from the coast and right opposite the train station. Parking is available at £5 for 24 hours. We had full breakfast each morning and had dinner in the restaurant one night.....the food and service were great. We'll definitely be back in the summer and would highly recommend Norwich Nelson for a break in Norwich.

We booked for 3 nights bed and breakfast over two weeks ago. Upon arrival we were told by the receptionist you had to book breakfast and customers were emailed 4 days before arrival informing of this. When we tried to book the breakfast it was fully booked, why book people in for bed and breakfast if you can’t accommodate them. Now our family with two children have to go off and find somewhere in the morning. We showed reception that we had not received the email and it was not in junk email box. Other people were complaining they did not receive the email too, I think the hotel just realised they could not accommodate the breakfast and spun a story of an email they sent, no one had got it. All the receptionist could do was say I do apologise, was not his fault, this hotel is badly managed. We were given room 137, it was like a prison with a concrete roof out the window, when I told the receptionist all he said was the rooms were randomly picked. Furthermore
I'm not sure why people think it’s clean when it was a grot pit, we were told it was fully sanitised, there was hair in the plug hole, the carpet was dirty and not hoovered , it’s a dark carpet but if you look down you will see, which is unacceptable in a pandemic, this hotel is grubby, luckily I had some antibacterial wipes. I even overheard a cleaner saying she couldn’t cope. This hotel has clearly overbooked itself and not prepared for opening in a pandemic. I realise this is a basic hotel but I expected it to be clean.

Best Premier Inn we’ve ever stayed in. Pretty views located next to the river bank, great location to get to most things on foot.
Check in was very busy at 4pm but que moved quickly, reception staff were welcoming and accommodating, I had called ahead and asked for an end room on the top floor due to problems with noise on previous other hotel stays, this was on my booking and allocated to us with no problem. Parking is £6 per night, the reception staff give you a ticket to scan at the machine located just by the front doors to the reception, to pay for the number of nights your staying, don’t forget to do this, we did see an attendant checking !
The hotel is spotlessly clean, with Covid in mind, you can smell the clean as walk through the hotel, the staff were working tirelessly everyday, cleaning throughout, which was very reassuring.
Our room 241 had a small balcony with river side view which was lovely to watch the passing boat traffic, kayaks or paddle boarders.
Restaurant have good deals on adult breakfasts with kids eating free, or 2 adults meals between 12-6pm for £8.99… you do need to book the restaurant in person or online as they always seem to be busy to guarantee a table.
Norwich train station is just over the bridge if your planning trips further out like Cromer or Great Yarmouth or the Riverside Leisure park which is great for the kids, has an Odeon cinema, Gravity Trampoline park and Hollywood Bowl if you looking for other things to do and has some well known eating chains 10 minute walk from the hotel. Behind this is another retail park with a Morrison’s supermarket and the Norwich City Ground on Carrow Road.
The town centre is about a 15 minute walk, for shopping, bus tours, castle and cathedral.
We really enjoyed our stayed and it was a perfect location to access everything we wanted, we will definitely be back !

The Nelson Hotel was in a great location on the river and within easy walking distance of the town centre. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, ours had a river view. There was ample car parking space charged at £6 a day. The full English breakfast was delicious and you could order as much as you wanted. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay.

This hotel either met or exceeded our expectations. The room was spacious and clean, and the bed and pillows were super comfy.
All staff were polite and courteous at all times and there was always someone available on the reception desk.
The Covid-19 restrictions were very well managed, with hand sanitiser and signage throughout the hotel and restaurant areas.
The car park was reasonably priced at £6 for 24 hours.
The integrated restaurant The Nelson seemed a little understaffed at times, but the staff that were working were very friendly and attentive. Extensive food and drink choices, and again, the Covid-19 restrictions were very well managed with table service only and a one-way system in place. Particular mentions for Sam and Ben who looked after us very well during our weeks stay.
We will definitely stay here again.

The Premier Inn Nelson City Centre is the hotel we always tend to use when staying in Norwich. The location of the hotel really makes it! On the outskirts of the "city" it is easy to access by car with plenty of car parking available.
Just over the river is a whole retail / leisure park located right next to the train station with plenty of restaurants, bars, cinema and bowling for a great evening out. The hotel is also within walking distance of the city centre itself and the main shopping complex' (within 10 minutes).
The staff at the hotel are more than helpful and very attentive if there is ever a need for anything.
The rooms are of the older Premier Inn style, typically a large double bed with a sofa bed. Plenty of space in the room for shopping, sorting and relaxing so definitely not an issue on that part. The bathrooms are typically bath with in-built shower, sink and toilet as opposed to a separate shower. There is a hairdryer equipped with the room and a separate lit up make up mirror for those who use them. We were quite lucky with our room and it actually overlooked the garden and river out the back which was very quiet and peaceful.
All in all a great stay!

Booked the hotel for a family break to explore Norwich and the Norfolk coast.
Great central location close to the city centre and train station.
Huge room with for a family of 4 with a double bed and 2 extra beds for the children.
The room was very clean, windows were open on arrival and the air con worked well.
We paid £9.50 per adult for breakfast each morning in the adjoining restaurant and the children ate for free. Excellent choice of continental and cooked breakfast options, everything from fruit & yoghurts to croissants & bagels, bacon, sausages, black pudding and scrambled or fried eggs.
Our room, 143, was very quiet and away from loft or corridor noise which is appreciated when travelling with young children.
The reception staff were very friendly (especially the lady whom is having baby no2 soon).
Overall a great stay for a good price.
The only downside is having to pay £6 per day extra for parking

We stayed here for 4 nights Thursday to Monday. Lovely Premier Inn set right by the river. We asked for a river view and we weren't disappointed. We had a lovely big room (family) and our bed faced looking out of the window. It was a little sparce on furniture as it was a bigger room.
We didn't bother with room cleaning, we just kept our room ourselves. Didn't have much interaction with staff as you can self check in and out on the machines.
We didn't eat breakfast in the restaurant, we went elsewhere as we find them expensive.
Location is right near lots of eateries within walking distance and a short stroll in to town altho we did see a bus stop so pretty sure you could get in to town from bus stop nearby.
We had a lovely stay here and would definitely visit this Premier Inn again and certainly recommend it.
We often stay in Premier Inns as we find them extremely comfortable. One thing I would love is a small fridge in the room, that would be very useful so that we can keep a pint of fresh milk.

The car park is big and outdoor
There is a secure luggage room
Yes there wasn’t a lot of difference between the standard rooms and the more expensive rooms. There was an extra chair I think and they were more geared up for the business traveller. Posh coffee maker also, but I can never work those!
Premier inn's are normally very secure. most inner city ones i have stayed at have the ability to make the lift to the rooms card operated. i've never had a security issue in this chain of hotels.
