Detailed Reviews
The hotel is on a ring road in a commercial district of the city. It looks like it was built in the 1960s or 1970s. Covid-19 restrictions and changes were in place so that there was no hot breakfast and the bar and restaurant were only available as part of room service.
The staff were excellent and coped with these restrictions very well. The room was clean and comfortable, but dated and in need of refurbishment.
I would happily stay there again

We stayed two nights from a Friday after spending the afternoon at nearby Great Yarmouth. The rate we paid included breakfast. As a couple we decided on a weekend treat exploring the nearby area including Beccles and Lowestoft where we had tickets for a show at the marina theatre on the Saturday evening.
Car parking was no problem with plenty of spaces available on site. First of all can I say how friendly and welcoming all the staff were during our stay, including the housekeeping team as well.
We had a meal in the restaurant on the Friday evening. My husband has gluten intolerance dietary needs, and the menu and staff were excellent in accommodating this. The meals were delicious. Again, the breakfast menu was extensive with plenty of choices ranging from continental to a full English, with all allergy’s taken into account and substitutes available.
The room was a decent size and the bed was comfy. The bathroom was okay and the shower was fine. Apart from the usual facilities like TV and tea and coffee facilities and water bottles provided, the room was no frills, but it was clean and comfortable, which is all we ask for.
If you are visiting Norwich or the nearby broads, you really can’t go wrong with this hotel, thank you again to the excellent team at the mercure

We could not fault this hotel. Staff were excellent and very helpful, the food was good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We booked a group of some 50 people staying and 140 eating at our annual dinner. Everyone was happy with our choice.

+1
I voted for 2 nights with work. The hotels 14 minute drive out of town with taxis ranging £8-12 each way so if your on a budget beware. The reception staff are very helpful but they double up for leisure centre management which is remotely managed by watching on CCTV which is hardly safe or fair to already overworked staff- mainly 1 on duty answering phones and sorting leisure centre plus check in/ outs! Ridiculous for a busy hotel!!! The rooms are ok but the entire hotel is very dated and grubby carpets, door frames, walls scratched, scuffed room service meals and beers still outside doors for long times. Gym is dirty with no remote for t.v filthy floor no sanitiser or advise to wipe down equipment which doesn't all work. Pool was hot and showers but no Jacuzzi, steam and sauna ok. Showers, WC here grubby with broken tiles, bins filthy and not good for 4**** hotel. Clearly lacking investment or proper management from Mecure. Stay in town the premier inn where my colleague stayed was much cleaner!!! Breakfast was a good offer but not always replenished had to wait for pastries, 3x the chef burnt my veggie sausages by deep frying and I had 2 wait to be seated- again skeleton staff on duty.

I don't often write reviews but felt that this hotel deserved one. We stayed here as a family over Christmas. What this hotel lacks in kerb appeal (got to be honest it is a truly ugly building) it makes up for in customer service.
I had lots of questions prior to booking as I wanted to make sure the break would suit all members of the family. The reservations dept. could not have been more helpful or accommodating.
We were promised a welcome drink/mince pie on arrival and were delighted to be served a full sparkling afternoon tea. Such an unexpected treat.
Food and entertainment throughout our stay was of a really good standard and our room (although much in need of a refurb) was warm, comfortable and extremely spacious.
We all enjoyed the lovely warm swimming pool too and found the bar and restaurant very pleasant and beautifully decorated for Christmas.
A potentially serious issue involving appalling behaviour from other guests was dealt with promptly by the Manager Stuart (who came in especially on Christmas Day and met with us personally). He was an absolute gent and we really felt that he took his guests comfort seriously.
We honestly would not hesitate to stay here again and felt that our break was such exceptional value. We all had a very relaxing and memorable Christmas. Thank you.

SugarDumpling bless your heart for a lovely review. I very much enjoyed your honesty regarding our "kerb appeal." I have sometimes described us as an ugly duckling with a hidden swan inside. Thank you for your kind words about my fabulous team here and I too had a relaxing Xmas knowing that you were all safe and happy. My warmest wishes to you and your family from us all here in Sunny Norwich.

From my first meeting with events organiser Gill, to the end of the big night itself, I couldn’t have been happier with my choice of venue. All my wishes were brought to life, we even had a surprise red carpet for everyone’s arrival.
The room was set beautifully, on the night the food was delicious, served quickly, hot when it reached the table and nothing was too much trouble, I had lots of positive comments from those at the event.
All the staff are really friendly, the DJ went from decade to decade and never had an empty floor once. Thank you so much for a fantastic night.

I've just celebrated my 60th birthday with a party in the fabulous City Suite Room at the MERCURE NORWICH. From start to finish the whole experience was a joy; from booking that large beautiful room in the first instance, to the party itself and then staying overnight in the hotel, with breakfast the following morning, everything was just wonderful.
The Events Manager, Gill, is so friendly and enthusiastic about giving people the best experience. Her suggestions and ideas were helpful and very welcome, and she was so reassuring when I feared no-one would turn up.
I've had numerous party guests tell me they had a brilliant time, and lots of comments about what a terrific venue it is. The City Suite room itself was set up beautifully by the staff, fairy lights on the walls, balloons on the tables. It's got a large dance floor and a stage where I had a live band, as well as the resident DJ who did an excellent job. He was more than happy for me to give him a preferred playlist.
The buffet food surpassed all expectations and was great - we had lots of comments about how good the food was. As for breakfast, well I hadn't been expecting much (my experience of other hotels) but that was excellent too.
It was so good to have breakfast with the party guests who had stayed over in the hotel.
What a unique experience the whole thing was.
I'd like to thank all the staff for their hard work and attention to detail: to the catering staff for the wonderful food, to the DJ, the bar staff and especially to Gill because your enthusiasm and general loveliness of temperament really made all the planning part of the fun. Thank you.
Love Jane

I won't be staying at the mercure chain again as they're no longer trustworthy as a quality brand, after 2 recent very bad experiences.
I attempted check in and was greeted by a very rough guy on the reception that could certainly use some training in customer service! he said that he didn't have a reservation for me and promptly told me in a non apologetic manor that the hotel was full. I had my company agency (capita) reservation number to hand but he rudely said, without barely looking at it that it meant nothing to him and that he needed to see email confirmation.
I had to get into my work emails to prove my booking which took about 15mins and once he had seen the email he said "well I'd better get you booked in" so I suppose he must have found a room from somewhere then!
He didn't give me any information about breakfast or evening meals. I asked about the pool that is advertised and was the reason I booked and he rudely stated that the pool was closed and all agencies have been informed!
The room was on the 3rd floor, 2 flights of stairs and no lift for luggage!
Basic room, tiny bed, dirty carpet with what I can only assume was a red wine stain on it.
The room was "serviced" after the first night they roughly pulled the cover over the bed, didn't make it properly, didn't replace refreshments or shower gels, didn't hang up towels but they did empty the bin!

The boyfriend booked this as a getaway for ourselves from work and life for a couple of nights so we didn't need anything in particular near by although too far out to be able to walk into the city centre if wanted to.
The first approach was the free car park with plenty of spaces however the building looked a bit of a dive from the outside so I was glad to see it looking a bit nicer inside although could still do with some modern decoration.
Friendly welcoming staff.
The room was a typical 3 to 4 star type of room with the usuals of an iron, safe and hair dryer which I hardly ever use in places though. What I do like to see is a fridge in the room with complimentary water bottles so that was nice.
Good sized TV.
The room felt too hot most of the time even with the air con on could do with being able to go lower than the stated 19 degrees. (outside temp only being about 20).
The Duvet was also too hot/too thick for this time of year, would have been even worse if been the previous week with the 30 degree heatwave.
Need some USB inputs by the bed for charging your phone, or even just plug sockets either side.

Very dated hotel, room smelt damp, black mold on net curtains. No double glazing. One of the noisiest hotels I have ever stayed in. If you get offered room 95 turn it down and request a different room, it's right on the main road and I might as well have slept in my car it would have been quieter.

Sorry - I'm just a normal paying guest, not staff! You'll have to ask the hotel directly.
Hi
well it depends how demanding you are, i find the room and the service fine but not sure about food, remember its a 4 star budget hotel not luxury !
some people spent some times in Philippines and they expect the same service here in uk, well expect the same standard of hygiene but deff not same level of service.
so its always a gamble.
Foods on the hotel restaurant are expensive but it's nice we normally eat at the town there are plenty of restaurant to choose it depends what you want to eat and there's a lot of pub to choose.
