The Penn Club is a unique place. It has a Quaker background, which places an emphasis on simplicity and valuing people. It's reflected in the rooms, which don't have TVs. They are very clean (have used a few). En suites (if you get an en suite room) are typically small, probably just a shower (though a bath may be available...

This is the second time I've booked a one-night stay at Penn Club. I always go for the budget room; I hate the idea of sharing a restroom with others and showering outside the room. In fact, I never saw anyone else on my floor (I know there were guests) - and there wasn't a problem having to share the...

This is a comfortable, homely hotel. No lifts, nothing fancy, not even a television in your room. However, if you want affordable, comfortable beds, a good shower and a freshly cooked to order breakfast (and free wifi) in a really central location then this is perfect. It really isn't fancy but if you're working or holidaying in London and you...

This is not your normal hotel. There is a separate viewing room for TV, a separate library, and a room used for serving breakfast and for tea throughout the day. The rooms themselves include singles, doubles, no bathrooms in the room and some may include a bathroom. There is no elevator! An exercise room is not needed if your room...

This place is exactly like the reviews. Friendly, great location and very safe. The bed was very comfortable and ensuite bathroom very clean. A lift would be a welcome addition, although they do make sure you are well aware of the lack of one beforehand. Breakfast service was quick and friendly and the food was very good. So centrally located...

Great stay. Clean, comfortable beds, good breakfast, and very conveniently located -- near British Museum, bus and tube links. I'm 65 and did not mind doing without some of the usual hotel amenities -- en suite bathroom, elevators and an in-room television. The communal bathrooms are spotless, the stairs are OK if one doesn't have heavy luggage, and there is...

Ideal for what I wanted for a night out in London. Very close, walking distance, from Covent Garden and Leicester Square. Comfortable and clean room, very nice breakfast. Very homely feel. There was however shared bathrooms, which didn't bother me, no TV in the room and no lift which can be a struggle if like me you are on the...

This hotel is placed in a nice quiet area but close at hand for London attractions. It's a basic hotel, no frills or luxuries. I wouldn't stay here again as it's too basic for my tastes. Breakfast was great and staff were friendly. Decor is tired and worn but rooms were comfy and clean. The whole place is in desperate...

I recently met up with a friend from Canada who was visiting London for a conference. He was staying here and suggested I did too so we could maximize our time together. This is classic old style English middle class accommodation. Good but not fancy. I recommend the rooms with a garden view. Visit the small library to read newspapers....

Back in the 1970s I lived in a nurses' home (for Gt Ormond St) opposite the Penn Club in Bedford Place. We would walk past in our caps and starched caps at 7am and often wonder exactly what it was. It was many years later that I discovered it to be the most perfect place for a stay in London...

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighbourhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
