Starting with a positive you Couldn't fault the hotel location at all, facing Portobello Market. Upon check in, no one was around initially to help and when a staff member was located they could not find the key to our room. The Hotel would greatly benefit from a bit of TLC. We stayed in room 1, the bathroom was filthy,... More

I researched the Portobello Gold well, looking at their website, reviews etc and was fairly confident that I had chosen the perfect place. We were happy to stay in a very small room as we assumed it would be small and quirky, not small and shabby (and not in the chic way)! The old wooden toilet seat had a large... More

Very small room, size including bath room and little hall was 2m90 by 3m25 (9.5 by 10.6 ft) The bathroom was 80 cm by 1m77 (2.6 by 5.8 ft). To reach the toilet you had to walk through the shower tub. Bed was only 1m87 (6.1 ft) and I am 1m72 (5.6 ft), so when stretched my feet reached the... More

Great location, service and price. Central Portobello location, perfect for exploring Notting Hill and beyond. Comfortable recently updated compact double room with ensuite but will definitely try for the more spacious and opulent room 7 with four poster bed next time. Lovely continental breakfast with great coffees. Cool little art gallery in dining and stair areas. Wonderful service from Alex... More

Booked as a romantic weekend birthday celebration. The only thing romantic was the 4-poster bed. The room was in disrepair, absolutely NOwhere to hang clothes, no drawers and it smelt of damp in the stairs and corridor. Located above a pub/bar on Portobello Road, one word...... Noisy. No insulation. Breakfast which was included was one type of bread, toaster option,... More

Okay, let's just sum it up and keep this simple: People - wonderful and very helpful, they care about their establishment and their customers. Price - London is expensive regardless, so this place was reasonable for the price. Location - It's surrounded by quite an affluent area, which is beautiful but can be difficult or more so far to walk... More

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighbourhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
