I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel, after reading reviews on here. I booked a single room, it looked newly decorated , bed was very clean and comfortable, small ensuite bathroom was spotless with toiletries and plenty of toilet paper provided. The room had tea and coffee and even a small fridge. Only downside was there was nowhere to hand clothes or coats, and there was some dust on table surfaces and the skirting board. I don't understand why people have mentioned caravan toilets, it is a normal compact toilet in an ensuite bathroom. I was right next to the kitchen so was woken early when that started up, but otherwise fine. Breakfast included pastries, cereal, bread for toast, cheese, tomato and hard boiled eggs, yoghurt and hot drinks and juices, all very nice. Great for a night or two, given there is nowhere to hang clothes in that particular room, (I fed this back to the staff)and fantastic price for that area of London. I have seen others have said they had an old and tired room, but I think the hotel is renovating the rooms at the moment. I would stay here again if I needed to stay for work like this time, but please put some coat hooks or something in the room

Excellent location, close to shops, theaters, city center on foot 20 min, close to transportation and a train stations. Safe, clean neborhood. Expensive but for London cheap. Small room, old furniture, i know that i booked a shared bathroom but i did not like it, the breakfast was disapointing, for the price we played some form of english breakfast woud be expected insted only jam and bread.

Stayed here for 1 night. Found the room small for what we paid. Comfortable bed and pretty quite. We had a shared bathroom which was nice and clean. There was a toilet and a toilet with shower. Breakfast was a choice of bacon, scrambled egg, sausage, beans, tomatoes, cereal toast, yogurts. Choice of fruit juices ,tea or coffee. You just help your self .I would stay here again if it was a bit cheaper

If you knew the OLD Arran House, then you'll probably be as disappointed as we were.
Everything is changed for the worse.
To start with, No Full English Breakfast!!!!!
The place has gone downhill.
Despite being an old building, there is no need for it to be so dirty and unkempt.
We stayed there several times in the past and were very pleased. but this time was just too much.
The Full breakfast has been replaced with a standard so low it is unacceptable.
The evening sherry in the drawing room is replaced by a vending machine.
The stuffing is falling out of the pillows,
the bathrooms are out of order half the time and filthy the rest of the time,
the walls are grimy and in need of paint especially where the old picture frames used to be,
the handrail on the stair is so sticky from years of abuse and poor housekeeping it is dangerously filled with disease and too filthy to touch
the window curtains are old, torn and again, filthy.
The hot water is only tepid, and the cold water is almist as warm as the hot water,
The place is so badly run, 2 of the 4 lights in our room did not work,
Even the Staff complain of the many changes for the worse made by the new owners.
This is now a part of the Crown Group of Hotels
If you have a yearning to be treated like dirt, and robbed of your money, stay with the Crown Hotel Group, If not, find other accommodations.

Absolutely horrendous place. People are nice but the place is filthy, terrible rooms. Avoid at all costs.
Some basic rules of running a business like this is to keep it clean, keep on top of maintenance.
Avoid rooms 30 (a cupboard) and room 1, doors slamming all night
Please at least get a soft close on your doors Arran House Hotel

Not really sure how this place has 3 stars, it's more like a 2. The decor is horrible - dusty ugly old dark carpets, peeling wallpaper, creaking floorboards, horrible old furniture. It basically just feels like once upon a time was quite posh but it just hasn't had anything updated in about 30 years. There's radiators where half the paint has flaked off, broken tiles in the bathroom walls, and the flush of the toilets is worse than in Greece! Shower was decent but again, grubby and bits flaking off the shower tray making the environment really unpleasant. I think most rooms have shared bathrooms and this often involve going down the stairs to a different floor. The room was stifling hot in October, they did supply a fan though. The whole hotel smells faintly of smoke which is really concerning. And as others have said, there's bags of dirty laundry and Hoovers everywhere, not just a trip hazard but just really ugly! But no cleaners in sight?! Overall really shabby and soulless and didn't sleep well (the single bed is absolutely tiny). Location is however great - near Russell Square, Bloomsbury, Tottenham Court road etc.

Not a good choice.

With single rooms in Central London you get used to small beds and small rooms. But unfortunately this is still a really bad example.

The bed was tiny with a small flat pillow and a very warm duvet despite the heating being on high. But the bathroom was the low light. The shower was approx 60cm square with a tired curtain across two sides. That's about the size of a kitchen cupboard.

After a bad night's sleep you want a decent shower but no chance of that here.

There are better budget hotels in the neighbourhood. Use them.

Brilliant location , excellent for money - staff very helpful and nice . Has a nice cozy feel and very decorative . The continental breakfast was at the perfect time and has a wide variety of food to choose from including fresh fruits and gluten free bread . A secret gem in the heart of London !!!

Wasn't expecting much for tt he price we paid, but very pleasantly surprised. Staff were Fantastic ! Had to postpone visit for 2 years ( visited Wimbledon Tennis ) Staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean and more than adequate for what we wanted.Excellent breakfast. Easy walking to underground. Definitely recommend 👌

I was in London on my own for a night after my friends had left. I booked into Arran House for 1 night. The greeting was great, everything explained well and I was shown my room.
The room was a single, so I understood it would be small, but this was really small. The bed overlapped the door and I had to move the bed each time I overlapped the door. It was fine to use as a base, but you couldn't spend a lot of time in it though.

The walls were quite thin and I could hear everyone walking past, which was annoying in the morning.

The breakfast was great, although the dining room is quite cramped.

It was in a good central location, a good price and I would stay again.

I found the room a bit grubby. Many of the fittings were cracked / loose or broken but the sort of things that were poor maintenance rather than poor housekeeping. It isn't good value for a London stay, there are many as bad or better for less and many better for the same kind of rates. I didn't get charged twice but I pre booked through a travel site so no-one else got my payment details.
