AMANO Covent Garden has earned commendations for its friendly staff and stylish, spotless rooms, with the modernity of the hotel often highlighted. However, the praise for cleanliness and atmosphere is occasionally overshadowed by noise complaints, particularly from the hotel's nightlife. While the central location is consistently lauded, providing easy access to local attractions, some guests feel the rooms are cramped and question the value, citing size and soundproofing concerns. The modern amenities, including the popular rooftop bar, are well-received, though the noise level remains a notable detractor for many travelers.

We recently stayed at Amano Hotel with our dog as we were hosting a party on the rooftop. Now I’ll cover the rooftop in a second but wanted to review the hotel itself first. The hotel is super modern and has small touches like no buttons in the lift, instead being determined by a little tablet downstairs that you press the floor on. The corridors are quite dark and moody and the rooms themselves are quite basic. We loved that the hotel is dog friendly and our doggo loved the room too. We paid £320 for one night which for the location that’s about right. The downsides to the room we had was it looked out onto a children’s playground so far from ideal and the hotel rooms aren’t well soundproofed. As the hosts of the party, we didn’t mind so much but when we popped down to check on the dog we could hear the music and we stayed on the 1st floor and the rooftop is the 7th floor. As for hosting the party at Amano, we used tag venue to find it but then approached Mapi from the events team ourselves afterwards as it was easier/you get quicker responses. On a sunny day, as it was this day the rooftop outdoor terrace is amazing with views of key landmarks e.g London Eye and The Shard. The space fits about 120 people indoors and outdoors combined and we were given the choice on what tables and chairs we wanted to remove to create the space needed. We used Greg one of the recommended DJs and the beauty at Amano is there are built in DJ decks into the bar already. Food wise we had a selection of tapas and bowl food, I will say we loved the venue so much that we proceeded with the food even though we thought it was quite overpriced. £12 for a tiny pulled pork slider or £11 for a single chicken empanada. We really loved the baharat potatoes with romesco sauce and had amazing feedback from guests on the salmon ceviche too (I was too busy that I didn’t get to try it.) The team provided us with waiters and security for the event, initially guests from the hotel kept coming up to use the rooftop despite an email going out to all guests that it was closed for a private event. After they put a sign downstairs, that stopped the strangers coming up asking if they could have a drink. The cocktails are really strong so whilst a little pricey, if you’re looking to taste the booze you won’t be disappointed. Overall, a really nice evening and night at Amano. I’d recommend it if you’re looking to host a party in central London without a £25K price tag (as many of the other venues we looked at were.)

Hi Megan, Thank you so much for the detailed review! We’re thrilled that you had a great experience hosting your party at our rooftop and enjoyed the stunning views of London. It’s wonderful to hear that both you and your dog enjoyed your stay, and we’re glad the unique features like our modern lift system stood out to you. We appreciate your feedback on the room and the soundproofing—your comments help us continuously improve. We're also pleased that the event team, food, and DJ worked well for your party. We'll be sure to pass your kind words to Mapi and the team. We do acknowledge your point on the food pricing, and we're glad the quality of the dishes, like the baharat potatoes and salmon ceviche, was appreciated by your guests. Thank you for choosing Amano, and we hope to welcome you back for future events or stays! Best regards, Asif Hossain Night Manager Hotel Amano Covent Garden

I had a great stay, the hotel is perfectly placed for Theatreland & the nightlife of central London. Opened in 2022, it is contemporary & pristine, part of the chic boutique, Berlin based Amano Group. My 3rd floor room was elegant & in good order - comfy bed, powerful shower, etc. Given the lively location, I was pleased to find that my room, overlooking a quiet side street, didn't suffer any external noise pollution, though I could hear late night revellers in the corridor. The hotel houses a buzzy restaurant called Penelope's, serving Israeli/Spanish cuisine. We had an excellent meal, in glamorous surroundings, with great service. Avoid weekend evenings if you're seeking a quiet meal though, as they put on a DJ set which they describe as having 'dance on the table vibes'. It was pretty raucous, but fun. Additonally, there is a cool rooftop bar with great views over the city & interesting cocktails. Staff were charming & efficient in all areas.

The location of this hotel
was great. 10’mins from Holborn tune and an easy walk. We had a standard room on the 2nd floor on the corner. The bedroom was very compact and hard to get round one corner of the bed -
Space was that tight. There was just a bed and two bedside tables a very small stool and a wardrobe. No where to sit and put your make up on or now dry your hair. The large mirror behind the door was brown so couldn’t see well to do make up/hair. The bathroom was spacious and a nice layout but very very hot in there due to all the glass. Shower was good though. Note that they only supply shampoo and shower gel. Luckily I had conditioner but would have been nice to have had hand/body lotion too for the price ! Bed was comfy and large. Roof top terrace was lovely and Dutch who was on duty that night got a table for us after our show. Staff at breakfast were very nice and breakfast was good - cost £22.50 but we felt it was worth it. Was just a few minutes walk from Covent Garden and 10 mins to the theatre we were going to. Location was the best point of this hotel and the rooftop bar with a good dj was a good plus. Note it’s worth reserving a table up at the terrace (reception didn’t advise us of this even though we enquired about the terrace when we checked in) as anyone can go
and it does get busy. Was an expensive hotel but not sure you could get anything better location wise for the money.

Our return stay at Amano fell short of our previously delightful experiences. Upon arrival, we discovered multiple issues with our £330 room:

The television required rewiring due to missing cables, while the in-room tablet had completely discharged. Our coffee machine had to be replaced after malfunctioning, and concerningly, the bathroom mirror frame produced an electrical buzz when touched.

Once operational, the television's remote functioned only at extremely close range, and the system was unusually restricted, preventing connection of personal streaming apps—a flexibility commonly offered at comparable luxury establishments.

The sleeping arrangements proved uncomfortable: an excessively firm mattress that creaked with minimal movement, paired with rough pillowcases and lumpy pillows. The room's temperature control was limited by reception to a minimum of 20 degrees, rendering the in-room controls essentially decorative.

Despite the spacious appearance, the bed placement against a wall created awkward access, requiring one to squeeze past the window. Light filtration through curtains and noise from slamming doors disrupted sleep quality.
Communication with staff was challenging, with only one of several calls to reception answered.

While Amano was previously our preferred London accommodation, this experience suggests the actual value closer to £150 than the premium rate charged. For a hotel positioning itself in the luxury market, the amenities and service should reflect that standard. Amano fell way short of the mark.

We were placed on the first floor directly above the bar. While we noted during the day that we could barely hear anything from the outside noise, apparently Saturday night turned into a nightclub and we could hear the load music coming through the floor until well past midnight. Our sleep was terrible and we likely won't be staying again, we will also not be recommending our friends stay here. The room was also quite small for what we paid. the bathroom as always was fantastic although really could have done with a bath facility.

No access to rooftop bar, the main reason for us choosing this place to stay. Very disappointed. Will be going elsewhere in future. Either a better equivalent hotel or a more budget friendly option as we decided to pay the extra cost for these facilities over a basic hotel to then be turned away on the night was very disappointing.

Price should reflect lack of access to rooftop bar, we based our whole stay on this and we were denied access with no prior warning. We should have booked a cheaper hotel as we would have had the same facilities. This closure should have been notified ahead of time.

Better sound proofing is needed for first floor rooms as the nightclub downstairs makes it a very uncomfortable stay. Stay was ruined by the lack of access to the rooftop bar as well as the nightclub music emanating from the ground floor into our first floor room located directly above it.

Extra star given because the rooms and vibe were lovely otherwise and the staff were fantastic. Otherwise, we were originally happy repeat customers but we don't plan on staying at the Amano Covent garden again.

Dear Cal O'Reilly, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you faced during your stay, particularly regarding the noise from the bar and the unexpected closure of the rooftop bar. We understand how disruptive this must have been, especially as it impacted your sleep and overall experience. Your feedback about the room size and the need for better soundproofing is invaluable, and we will certainly take it into consideration as we work on improving our facilities. We always aim to provide our guests with a relaxing and enjoyable environment, and it’s disappointing to hear that we fell short in your case. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and the overall vibe of the hotel. Your loyalty as a repeat customer means a lot to us, and we hope you might give us another chance to provide the experience you were hoping for. Thank you once again for your feedback. Staff lovely. Rooftop bar great views. But everything else is all style no substance.
Room was so ridiculously tiny - no room for one case never mind 2 !
No wardrobe
No shelves
No where you could lay a laptop
No mini bar
No conditioner with the shampoo
Literally zero consideration for customer experience- I can only assume they are banking on location meaning people will stay here once and they don’t mind if they don’t come back
What was even more embarrassing was that we arranged this hotel to meet elderly relatives who also stayed here. In their room the bathroom sink wasn’t even in the bathroom ! I was mortified that I arranged this.
There are many more hotels in London - stay somewhere else

Dear karenbrickell, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your review. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed our lovely staff, our unbeatable location and our great views from the rooftop bar. Please be aware that our hotel offers a variety of room categories to suit a range of travellers' needs. If you are a traveller who prefers space to move around, more storage and a desk where to lay a laptop, I strongly recommend booking our Roomy or Roomy Plus categories. We also offer room categories with different bathroom layouts, so if you experience some discomfort with the room you've been allocated, please approach reception so that we can arrange a suitable alternative. With regards to the mini bar and conditioner, these are not amenities that we advertise on any of our websites or partner's sites. However, I will forward your recommendation to our senior management team. We are sorry that you did not enjoy your experience as much as we would have liked. If there is anything that we can do for you to improve this, please message me on katerina@amanolondon.com . I wish you a very pleasant day! Yours sincerely, Katerina Duty Manager Hotel AMANO Covent Garden

Me and my partner had booked this hotel for her 21st birthday as something special, however it was far from that. First of all I had rang the hotel on numerous occasions to see if they would be able to put some balloons in the room and to make it look nice for her to walk into. I was told that this would be something they would accommodate and would have it ready on our arrival. However this wasn’t the case and nothing was there. The room size was so small we kept tripping over our suitcase and getting in each others way, almost like a game of twister. I then noticed a lot of dust around the room, I went on to check actually how clean the room was and I’ve seen pub toilets cleaner than it. Not to forget that the TV was wonky and you had to turn your head sideways to watch it. ( see the photos). After complaining to the staff we were given complimentary breakfast and a room change. But that was just pointless, as the second room was still filthy, in the same places I told them it was in the previous room. It’s as if the cleaners think they can just wave a magic wand. The breakfast was an absolute shambles, I ordered the full English with poached eggs and it was as if the chef had tipped the egg water on my plate, everything was swimming. My partner asked for a sausage sandwich in which the waiter had no clue what one was and I had to explain. For it to come with two slices of toast on one side of the plate and ONE sausage on the other. We was past caring at this point. Overall it was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and at £470 for 2 nights it’s daylight robbery, don’t touch it with a barge pole!!

Dear samHefany547, I am sorry to hear that you and your partner did not enjoy your stay at our hotel. As far as I am aware, with regards to the balloons, my colleague apologised for the mistake, but we did provide a luxury fruit plate and a bottle of prosecco to celebrate your special occasion. Regarding the other problems with your first room, my colleague made up for the incidents by providing a room move and complimentary upgrade to one of our nicer and more spacious categories, the Roomy, and ensuring a reasonable refund. I am sorry that you had such an experience at breakfast and, as a gesture of apology, we have waived the payment for breakfast. In your second room, two managers investigated it and discovered that there was no dust in the second room and that the picture you provided is not specific to the room you were in. However, as a gesture of good will, you we were provided with two complimentary drinks in the rooftop bar, which you accepted. May I also kindly ask that in future bookings with any hotel that you stay in that you do not approach or displace the smoke alarm detectors, which are placed there for your own health and safety. I wish you a very pleasant weekend. Yours sincerely, Katerina Guest Services Manager Hotel AMANO Covent Garden

The room was nowhere near the quality that the online images suggest. The decor was tired and the finish quality was not to a very high standard. The in-room facilities were woefully lacking, the shower door leaked so the bathroom floor ended up flooded, there is only mood lighting which is no use for getting ready to go out, and the staff that attended the room to replace a bottle of body wash in the shower (and it took three of them) were not at all happy to help. The rooftop bar was closed for a private function, which we were only told about 24 hours before our arrival so we couldn't make use of that, and my advice would be to skip breakfast and go to one of the many restaurants with a breakfast menu in Covent Garden. The cooked items were limited, of poor quality (cash and carry sausages), and not well cooked - the bacon seemed like it had been microwaved. There was not £20 worth of breakfast to be found, even if you had something of everything. The advertising and branding makes this appear like it is a destination hotel, but it is more like a Holiday Inn with better interior design. I was massively disappointed as I had factored in staying at the hotel as part of the overall experience for the trip but it ended up stressful and a let-down. Oh, and a sniffer dog was waiting to inspect the hotel as we were checking out, so all in all we were glad to only be there for one night.

Great location, close to theatres, shops and restaurants. Rooms tastefully decorated and clean. Lighting was very dark so was difficult to see especially in the bathroom. Customer service was an issue , the reception staff were welcoming but follow up on requests was very poor. We returned one afternoon after being out all day to find our room hadn’t been cleaned and we had to ring twice just to have our towels replaced. Another day when leaving in the morning I requested reception staff to let housekeeping know to leave an additional bath towel to our room only to return later in the afternoon and had to ask twice again for another towel. ( I asked 3 times !) No apologies were given. Won’t be recommending Amano or going back again.

We stayed here for one night as a birthday/anniversary city break. The hotel is ideally located for the Picadilly line, ( covent garden ), and District line, ( temple ). Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly and professional manner and asked if we were celebrating anything which we said yes. We arrived early and requested if we could leave our overnight luggage with them whilst we went out and that was quickly catered for. Once we came back later that afternoon check in was quick and easy. The room we had was a Goldy, and I'm guessing that because of the colour of the bath. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. The ameneties in the room were, a safe, slippers, robes, shoe horn, hair dryer, towels, kettle with an assortment of tea bags, nespresso machine with pods, milk, sugar and biscuits. On the desk in the room was a plate with a selection of chocolates which also had Happy Birthday written on it in chocolate, they had obviously remembered the earlier conversation, a lovely touch. Later that evening we had pre-booked a table on the hotel rooftop bar which offered great views. We highly recommend this hotel and we will be staying there again in the future.
