I thought the Maranton House Hotel was excellent value for location and price. I stayed there on four separate occasions when in the UK, as used it as my London base. I really loved the entrance way and reception area and the lovely mirrors, plus location near the Barkston Gardens (and fantastic Earls Court - awesome pubs!) I found it...

First the good: perfect (!) location for a great price. For a few pounds, you have a room with a nice view located close to Earl's Court underground station and dozens of nice bars and restaurants. The staff is friendly and the hotel has a charming look and free high speed WiFi (important this day and age). Unfortunately, the rooms...

My husband and I do not stay at super nice hotels, we're pretty low-key. The hotel itself has a lot of potential but really needs to be updated/cleaned a little better. My main complaint was the shower in our room was SCALDING hot. We tried to adjust it and even tried just taking a shower with only cold water but...

It's a perfect place to stay in order to visit london from the "inside". Placed in the heart of Earl's Court there's the famous train station from where you can be anywhere in London. The hotel is cheaper than most the hotels in the area, but WIFI not working, "strange" attention from employees and some old rooms will make you...

The location is good as all the reviews will attest, but with such an amazing underground tube system anywhere in London can be just as convenient. I chose to stay in a what I thought was a more residential style hotel, for the more authentic English esthetic, unfortunately I didn't understand that this meant a complete lack of modern conveniences!...

My son and I visited London and stayed here in February. It suited our needs to a tee. There are no frills here, and no elevator either, but our room was clean, the bathroom large, it's in a lovely quiet square with a good breakfast pub on the corner (The Blackbird) and a block from the Earl's Court tube, which...

The loacation is perfect...5 minutes to the tube station, few supermarkets around, easy access from Heathrow airport. The breakfast could be better, but still fine. The staff is friendly. It is simple and clean hotel for the good price in a good place. Will come there again.

We stayed 4 nights recently in room 12 and were less than impressed. The hotel location is great with just a short stroll to Earl's Court station pubs and shops but that is where the benefits end. No elevator so a difficult climb with luggage. The room filled with old and mismatched furniture and fittings. The bathroom tired with lime...

We had the front room in the basement. Very small but plenty of light, comfortable beds, surprisingly quiet. Older furniture, a bit shabby, but livable. The staff was friendly. The plumbing was the major drawback. The faucets in the sink were impossible for us to shut off, it was difficult to flush the toilet completely and the water pressure in...

I have several issues with this hotel but will start with the good points: it's reasonable clean and comfortable and the staff I spoke to were pleasant though their English wasn't always good. It's in a quiet neighbourhood just a couple of minutes walk from Earl's Court underground station and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I ended...

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
