We travel to London every Christmas taking our 4 adult children and partners. We get 5 rooms and normally stay at the Savoy for 2 nights but as the families getting bigger so is the cost so thought we'd give Middle Eight a try out before booking a stat for next Christmas. Unfortunately it was not the stay we envisaged . The hotel itself is stunning only to be let down by the staff all apart from Julian . We were woken up by the cleaner at 8.45am asking to clean our room then again 30mins later so decided to go and have some breakfast soon after and were accosted once again on the way out . The service in the bar and restaurant was very poor . We waited to be served in the bar on our arrival day for 20minutes so my husband went up to ask if we should be coming to the bar and the waiter said we'd be there as soon as he could even though one barman was cleaning glasses . We did ask him too , he declined to take our order . In the evening we booked into the Green Room which was literally downstairs from where we got out of the lift but we were told that it was a private event and we couldn't go that way and would have to walk a little way down the street and enter that way. Hello! We were at that private event . Returning , the only way back was up those stairs . Overall I feel the staff need to be made aware that we are away on a special treat with our loved ones or family and need to be made to feel special . I'd encourage the staff to visit The Savoy and learn a few lessons on customer relations . Such a shame as such a beautiful hotel let down by the staff .

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed in this beautiful hotel in London for one night and it was absolutely perfect. The room was stunning, the decor was modern and luxurious and the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious and all in a fantastic location. We will definitely be back soon.

We stayed at the hotel when it was the Kingsway Hall and the extensive refurbishment has been done with style and class. We experienced a smooth checking in process with efficient and attentive staff, a nice restaurant area and a great bar area. The rooms are also very tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. Superb location for most areas of the capitol. I must say that the five-star hotels we have stayed at recently have been lacking in something. There are a lot of 4 stars that knocks spots of them. I found the problem with Middle Eight was the breakfast. Although it is obvious that it is very high-quality food, there needs to be more choice and the service lets in down terribly. Both mornings it was not overly busy, but it took at least 10 to 15 minutes to serve the drinks, on some tables the breakfast was served before the drinks. I am well prepared to wait for food that is cooked fresh but there is no need to wait to bring out the cold items of the breakfast. The second morning I asked for the croissants to be brought out with the drinks, not only did the drinks arrive 20 minutes later with the breakfast the croissants did not arrive at all. The whole service was very disjointed. Also, I am not sure if there is a problem with the tables at the front of the bar, but I noticed on the first morning that they had not been cleaned, there were the same marks on them in the evening and the second morning. Not quite a 5-star rating yet.

The hotel is in a great location and has been recently upgraded to "Middle Eight" the hotel name refers to the middle of a song. Check-in: - The welcome was OK, they asked you to sit down, but then you have to wait quite a while before someone comes to check you actually in. - The process took rather long. They miss a great opportunity of ensuring guests are using all Hotel offerings. No question if you want to book in their Italian restaurant, an ample and missed opportunity! - When escorted to the room, the introduction needs training and attention. Also, no mention of room service when asked where we can have a snack....see my bar and restaurant point. The Room: - They are dark but well-appointed, all items are of high quality, and the iron and board are the best I have seen in any hotel out there. - Everything is digital and works just OK, and many things need tweaking, especially the light settings are not as you think they work or as explained. - The storage is perfect and well done, with enough space and places to leave your suitcase. - The minibar is included, and the offering is sufficient. - The amenities are strange, there is a shampoo, conditioner and body lotion but no body wash, which is never seen. I did check if it was a 2in1, but this was not the case. - The noise from the AC is tremendous and makes sleeping difficult. The Bar: - We went to the bar and asked if there were bar snacks available, the answer was NO.....not something you would expect. However, the most grumpy bartender, a young man, was not having a good day and did not hide this at all. He told us to sit in the restaurant if we wanted food, so we walked to the restaurant, but when we were there a lady came by and told us it was closed! Excellent knowledge and communication! - The drinks menu in the bar is average at best, and they need lessons in bartending and mixology. For a 5 star hotel, you'd expect a lot more and better. - The second day with a new bar team, there was a significant difference, and the service was a lot better, attentive and friendlier! That team should train the early team working on Nov. 30th to let everyone else down! - Bar closes at 11 pm, and on the dot, they refuse to serve more even when busy.....or for hotel guests only! Restaurant: - We did not have dinner due to the first-day experience and had no appetite to try it. Evenings were tranquil in the restaurant. As stated before, they miss an opportunity to ask upon check-in for a reservation into their restaurant as the menu looks good..... - Breakfast was good, friendly, attentive staff and an OK breakfast but for a 5-star hotel again nothing remarkable. Covid-19 regulations: - No sanitizing stations around to sanitize your hands.....something you would expect to see. Overall it was an OK stay but won't return as the hotel is a letdown for a 5-star environment, and you can find a lot better for the same price. They need to train their staff a lot more and fix their issues. It's OK and 4 star at best.....service is more like a 3-star hotel.

Lovely new hotel in great location but lots of service and technology issues. On our checkin we were told the room card system had failed so the only way we could access our room was to ask the front desk for a member of staff to accompany us whenever we wanted to access the room. The room we stayed in had a terrible view of the air conditioning system. There was a noise from this unit which we could hear all night. Picture posted. Poor choice of drinks/beers in the bar (one larger, one ale, no bottled beer etc and the bar shuts very early. We specifically asked what time the bar shuts and we’re surprised when we returned from the theatre, (earlier than the time we were told) to find it shut! Complained about the mis-information we were given and were told it was agency staff who did not know what they were saying! We were then offered drinks after complaining and asking to speak to the manager, but had to sit in the hotel lobby to have them, not the bar area. I hope the hotel addresses these issues as has potential to be good.
