While Z Hotel Holborn garners appreciation for its prime location near Covent Garden and the theatre district, many travelers consider the value proposition subpar due to small rooms and steep prices. Despite the lack of space, guests frequently compliment the hotel's cleanliness and comfort, as well as the welcoming service.
The hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews, with some concerns about noisy air conditioning. Complimentary offerings like cheese and wine, however, are a hit among patrons.

The place was very well situated especially for west end and British museum which is free if that's your thing. We did quite a lot in our 3 days here and this was ideally placed. Will say the room was a tad small for 2 people climbing over each other and no fridge and mostly lack of table preparation space, cupboards or drawers. Despite that, very very clean and good for 1 or 2 nights, sleep, and shower anything longer or staying in you'd want more space. Great people, very accommodating, gave complimentary wine and cheeseboard when housekeeping not done. Also cling film wrap late evening when need some tin foil, plus a complimentary cheeseboard at the end for being a nice guest! Highly recommend! 😊

Let’s get the good bits out of the way first. The location is great, 2 minutes walk from Holborn tube station and 5 minutes walk from Covent Garden. Staff are friendly and the hotel is clean, tidy and felt safe. Showers have good flow and rooms are serviced daily.
However, the rooms are TINY! The bed was pushed up against the wall on 3 sides so the width of the room is exactly the length of a queen size bed. This also means only 1 bedside cabinet and clambering over someone to get into bed.
As for the bathroom again this was tiny and the sliding door doesn’t form a seal leaving a gap around the whole door. This means anything, um, private let’s say doesn’t stay private so if you’re sharing you need to be really comfortable with your roommate.
There’s also no wardrobe just a couple of hangers on the wall.
Breakfast is very basic and continental only so over priced for the small offering. We went to one of the many coffee shops on the street and got hot food and good coffee each morning instead.
Looking at other reviews the size issue with the room and beds against walls seems to be solved by upgrading the room to King and above however with the price increase for what I feel is a basic necessity of a double room I think I’d be inclined to look at other hotels in the area that offer more square footage, proper bathrooms and wardrobe facilities as well as a hot breakfast option for the same price.
All in all not a bad hotel but I don’t think good decor is all I expect to make a hotel 4* so I probably would t visit again as a couple but would be ok for solo travellers.

Dear ghook83, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay at our hotel on TripAdvisor. We're glad to hear that you found our location convenient and that you appreciated the cleanliness and friendliness of our staff. A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
I had never stayed in a Z Hotel, I wasn't even so convinced by reading the reviews but it was a pleasant surprise.
The location is excellent, a short walk from Holborn St, there are also many buses nearby that take you to Oxford Street, Picadilly Circus etc and nearby there is also a pharmacy and a supermarket (Salisbury's) which is open until late. Among other things, the area is very safe, I have never felt in danger.
By staying the first night on a Sunday, I saved a bit. For 2 nights 2 people I paid £256.50. In other countries I would think the price is high for a room like the ones they have, but for London it's fine!( I stayed on Sunday ~ Tuesday)
I had a problem with the first room, and the staff was very kind and willing to change my room right away! The room was equipped with a kettle with tea, coffee, chamomile... there wasn't much variety of teas but you can always bring your own/buy it!
We were traveling with a backpack, so we didn't have major space problems. In the bathroom there was a very useful shelf where you could put most of the stuff and under the table there was also a space to put the rest.
The room had both an English socket and two USB sockets so you can avoid bringing the adapter.
Services are excellent. In the room they leave you a glass bottle with water. Perhaps the complimentary products could have been better… there was only 1 bar of soap, 1 shampoo&conditioner, and 1 body soap (small size).
However if you put the "cleaning" tag outside the door, they supply you the complimentary products and teas, they change the towels too. I was very satisfied!!👏👏
Now let's move on to the things I liked the least… the first is definitely THE WATER PRESSURE! Very bad, as I have long and thick hair it took me forever to take a shower!
Second thing, the bathroom. The room is small but they used every available inch to make it functional! What bothered me was the bathroom almost transparent and not soundproofed. There is a lack of privacy, that's for sure.
The attention to detail / cleaning is lacking a bit. When I used the hairdryer, it was a little dirty with foundation from a previous client…
Last thing, the room had a window but it didn't open so I always had warm air in the room which is fine however after a while my eyes/throat got dry.
Overall, I really liked my stay. I have a really good memory of my short time in London. ❣️

On the other hand, please rest assure the attention to detail is a standard at Z Hotels, I will ensure your feedback is passed to relevant department to avoid this for happening in the future. Here we go….on arrival when checking in we were told we had been “downgraded” to an accessible room, not the best thing to hear after a 3 hour drive, on our original booking we had chosen and booked a room with a king size bed with enough room to walk around it and a window, this was booked a few weeks prior, apparently this was now not available due to “maintenance” issues, this is a 192 bedroom hotel! and we had to now go into a room which we did not book. This was not the best start to the birthday celebration weekend for my wife. The reception staff didn’t seem at all concerned or bothered when I questioned why, almost as if this is done regularly if they overbook.
I asked what was the price difference and the receptionist said there was no price differences even though on the website the room we were now allocated was cheaper than the one we had originally booked, so in effect I had paid more for a room which was cheaper on the website, so felt a little conned out of money. My wife was tired and not feeling great after a long drive so we just accepted this as I did not want to create a fuss. The room wasn’t the cleanest with long hairs on the table, and my wife felt the bed linen wasn’t the cleanest, it was also extremely hot in the room even with the noisy air conditioning on, which we had to have on all night as there was no window other than a high level window which was unreachable and with no option to avoid being overlooked by rooms located above us, removing any privacy for us. I presume it was the manager who came and checked we were ok with the room but I felt there was no point in making any issues as again it was a celebration weekend, and actually should have been sorted at reception not when we were in the room. To get into bed I had to climb over my wife as the room was so small there was no option to go around, so obviously going to the toilet in the night I had to continually climb over my wife so obviously we both had NO sleep, the lights outside the high level window also made the night uncomfortable as did the amount of noise throughout the night being on the ground floor, the pillows were also so uncomfortable but this seems trivial to all the other issues. We had breakfast at 7am as we just needed to get out of the room, we both were not hungry at this time of the day so it was really pointless paying for this as we only had a few bits of fruit in a bowl, there were also no bowls or plates when we arrived for breakfast so I had to inform there staff of this too. It felt great to actually walk outside and get some fresh air We left at 8am extremely disappointed and tired with a three hour drive ahead of us. The best thing apart from the show we saw was the parking at Urban parking in Shelton street, they delivered everything they promised. Tim kindred

As per my colleague, I can kindly confirm the maintenance issues with the room type you have booked, that sometimes are out of our control, however as per you confirmed we have been informed you upon check-in. Dear Tim, once again we do apologise and please do reply to my email sent yesterday, as I have tried to contact you via phone, however without success. We arrived at the hotel (in a very good location for our needs and within a 2 minute walk of the tube station) and were greeted by a friendly, yet slightly frustrating member of staff on reception.
He didn't seem sure about a few things regarding our booking, including changing his mind regarding whether or not we had breakfast included (we then paid £10.95 each for this as per his suggestion it would be cheaper than buying in the morning) and were then told we were in room 222...
Arriving in room 222 (and running late for a restaurant booking over the road) we were greeted by a very strong smell created by dozens of large bins that were lining the small alleyway our only window was directly facing over. Admittedly, we should have gone back downstairs and changed rooms there and then, but we were already hungry and past our reservation time, so decided to go on with the evening plans rather than talk to reception again.
After a lovely meal over the road (42 Holborn) and a couple of drinks we were back in the room. Stench still strong. But now late in the evening and feeling tired, we decide to try get some sleep. It was 25 degrees and stuffy in London so the air-conditioning in the room was a big bonus. Wrong! It basically blew hot air around until it stopped working altogether at about 3am. Waking both me and my partner up in hot sweats and smelling the produce of several establishments bins.
Can't recommend this place.

As the title suggests, the rooms are SMALL. Not just small, REALLY TINY. However if you come mentally prepared for this, it’s actually a fabulous base for exploring London or if you’re on a business trip. Rooms are very well equipped, with hair dryer, kettle, water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate all provided in your room. The bed and linen were amazing and there was a huge TV on the wall at the end of the bed. The bathroom is frosted glass and a sliding door. Not the best for privacy so if that bothers you you may need to reconsider. It was well equipped with thick fluffy towels, shower gel and an amazing shower though. The reception area is welcoming, lots of seating where you can get snacks/breakfast/drinks etc and staff were very friendly. Location wise it’s perfect for getting around, just a couple of minutes walk to Holborn tube for the Central and Piccadilly lines and you can easily walk to Covent Garden. We will definitely be back (for 2 nights next week!)

Dear Debbie, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay with us. We appreciate your feedback and are delighted to hear about your overall positive experience at our hotel. We understand that our rooms might appear smaller than what some guests are accustomed to, and we thank you for acknowledging that aspect. However, we're glad that you found our accommodations to be well-equipped and comfortable, with amenities such as a hair dryer, kettle, and a variety of beverage options available in your room. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the bathroom design. While our frosted glass and sliding door layout adds a modern touch to the room, we understand that privacy is important. We'll certainly take your thoughts into consideration as we continue to enhance our guest experience. We're thrilled to hear that you found our reception area welcoming and that our staff made a positive impression on you. It's important to us that our guests feel comfortable and well taken care of during their stay. Excellent location. Under a 5 minute walk to Holborn tube station, just over a 10 minute walk to Covent Garden, and located on a busy street with many shops, restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Rooms and hotel in general were spotlessly clean with facilities including iron, hairdryer, luxury coffee, and very modern TVs. We were allowed to check in slightly earlier than 3pm at no extra cost and could leave our bags behind reception on our final day after checkout. We were 4 friends staying in a family room which consisted of a double bunk bed (each containing a TV at the end of the bed). Although a small room it was perfect for what we needed after a concert and a few days sight seeing. Only negative I would say is the privacy in the shower. The bathroom stepped out into the room and was frosted glass - but you could still see straight through it! It wasn’t too much of an issue but it would be my only negative point. Would definitely recommend. A great price for a perfect location in the centre of London.

I stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights this month. Let me start with saying that it is very clean and stylish. I did not mind the small size of the room because how much space do you need on a short city trip, right?
There is fast WLAN in the rooms which is free. The electric kettle was spotless and the free showergel and soap were very much appriciated. The shower, water pressure as well as temperature were great and the towels soft.
What I did not appreciate was the noise and all the lights. The first room I got had flashing light inside the vents that were right above my had when I lay in bed. Further lights: fire alarm (ok, i can accept that), the TV (you cannot turn it off fully, the red light stays on), and the room controlls also always glow. After I changed the room in the middle of the night I got a room in the basement where the AC was above the door, that's when it was clear the flashing light is from the AC unit, luckly i could not see it around the corner of the bath in that room. The noice from the AC is also very annoying, even when you turn it off, it still keeps going at a base level.
Please also be aware that the matress is very firm. Imaginge a thicker yoga mat on grass - yep that firm. This must not be a bad thing if you like that, but you should know it.
There are a few stairs into the hotel lobby, they do have a lift for wheelchairs, as well as some steps to some of the elevators (without a lift for wheelchairs).
To end my not very glowing review I have to mention that every single member of staff I had an interaction with was brilliant; extreamly friendly and helpful to the extent they could be.

Yesterday during check in they made me sign up on their site saying that I would have some advantages: wine and cheese for each day of overnight stay, discounts, upgrades and various things. Today I asked for the "complementary" wine but they told me that having booked through Booking they couldn't give it to me for free, it was a service valid only if I booked directly from the site...regulations that ARE NOT on the site! It's not about the glass of wine (obviously) but it's a matter of correctness and precision. I found what happened and the receptionist's (Prim) way of explaining to me (continuously interrupting me) impolite. Staying in a hotel is not just a room and a bathroom but also the service given by the workers. In this case not very “polite”

Couple staying for one night between flying back into London from honeymoon and heading back home to the South West the following day.
We expected the room to be very small. It is tiny, like a little box but functions fairly well. There is a hairdryer and kettle with tea/coffee and a bottle of water with two glasses.
If you have luggage, in these smaller basic rooms it is a struggle to step over things to get to the bathroom from the bed. Glass partition for shower/WC is rather unforgiving privacy wise and your partner can see you on the toilet and in the shower.
Sadly, we were awoken most of the early morning from 4am onwards by the loud noises of pipes/showers and drainage from other rooms. It was constant and every 20 minutes or so. I recorded the sound on my phone as couldnt believe how loud it was, like the flush, taps and shower was running in our own room.
The manager, Josiele was incredibly helpful and discounted our stay and was very apologetic. She took all of the details and assured us that she would be enquiring with the maintenance team to rectify the issues with the noise/plumbing.
She also wanted us to be reassured that this was not the impression that Z hotels wanted to make, so also offered future discount should we stay again.
All in all, the hotel is in a decent location and is fine for a one night stay. The smaller rooms are more suited to single travellers I would say. Obviously we have marked it down for the troubles we had but cannot fault the kindness and understanding of the manager.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking time to leave this feedback. We are glad to hear you found the assistance of the team, specially the Duty Manager helpful. Delivery an excellent customer service is a priority for us and we are delighted that our team made this impression on you. Z Hotels rooms are designed for short stays as we have a concentrate style but offering all the guests needs. It is true that for many people the dimension of the rooms can be impressive. In regards the issues faced with the loud noise, once again please apologies for this and rest assured this has been addressed accordingly to the maintenance department. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you about the discount offered. Using it will gives the opportunity to change your first impression and manage to show you this are not the standards of Z Hotels. We hope to welcome you back in the future. The queen's are slightly bigger than the double, however there is still not much storage space. Looking at photo's online, possibly only space is at the end of the bed. There are no wardrobes/space to unpack as such.
There are more places to choose from in the London area.
