Good location - walking distance to South Kensington Tube station. National History Museum just around the corner as well as the V&A and Science museum. Looks like an old Victorian house from the front - in a street with similar white fronted houses. Rooms are OK for sleep and washing and are therefore ideal for sightseeing. Rather pricey £310 for...

Hotel is in good location close to South Kensington tube station and the major museums. I only stayed the one night. Lovely large room with a good bathroom (including a bath). The major problem I had was with the beds. There were three single beds in the room. I tried them all and they were so uncomfortable - lumpy and...

The Gainsborough completely ruined by booking due to an error in their system which meant traipsing around London for hours looking for a hotel. Long story short the Gainsborough eventually offered us a room at about midnight and it was absolutely disgusting - grime and dirt all over the walls and stunk to high heaven. The staff were completely unresponsive,...

The only plus is the location of the hotel. Bed is below all expectations. No plug sockets next to bed. Very noisy stand alone ac. Stays directly next to the bed (singe room). Poor and expensive breakfast. Very weak water pressure in a shower. No toilet brush!

I found this hotel to be dirty and very rundown, just stayed the one night which was one night too many! Customer service leaves a lot to be desired, neither helpful or friendly, would not stay at this hotel again even if they paid me!.

A horrible experience. The staff were nice but the room was filthy, shower had no pressure and worst of all the pillow we were given had someone's blood on it. We stayed one night out of the 6 we booked.

The room was clean enough and there ended the good points. Beds poor and pillows smelly. Shower was scalding or freezing (we opted for freezing). Furniture shabby and drawer falling off. One bed had stained sheet. Air conditioning unit with tube hanging out window ridiculous and noisy. Reception staff dismissive and unfriendly - eye contact would be a good start....

We didn't have any unrealistic expectations and we were completely satisfied at the end. The hotel is not new so the furniture and equipment is worn but everything was clean. Breakfast was fine, we had both English and continental breakfast and both were fine, we didn't dine at the hotel. There is free Wifi but in is rather small -...

Stayed for a few nights on annual visit to see friends who live in London. Short walk to tube, shops, cafes, restaurants. Sourh Kensington stop. Room a bit cramped with big cabinet cabinet (to hotel manager: go get a small chest of drawers at Ikea!). Had hair dryer, TV, air conditioning unit, free wifi. The a/c unit was also crammed...

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
