Must say absolutely first class stay. Our greeter and receptionist Beverly is a credit to The Cumberland hotel. Friendly, informative and very welcoming!! He checked us in swiftly and sealed this with a warm handshake - excellent. The room was huge, well equipped and comfortable. The bar area is COOL and the beer cold!! The breakfast ticked all the boxes. We’ll be back on our next business trip. I0 / 10 - top drawer hotel 👍

We really liked staying here. You can get everywhere quickly, the Central Line is just around the corner, and you can go shopping on foot. The hotel looks fantastic, and the music theme puts you in a good mood as soon as you enter. The staff are personal, friendly, humorous, quick and competent. The rooms are great, and there's a little extra: you can borrow an electric guitar for your room with headphones from a menu. Our son (10) was able to practice his riffs without disturbing anyone. In the evenings there are live performances and delicious drinks in the bar, and you can order pizza late in the evening. It was the perfect base for our tours of London and the price was absolutely right.

Nice hotel, good security and good location, fun atmosphere, clean rooms with plenty of towels and some free snacks and drinks.

Check in clerk was very nice and really helpful, wanted to ensure we had the best experience and were looked after. Great job.

But…..

We had travelled on a 14 hour flight from Asia, landing at 6am and arriving at the hotel around 9:30am. Check in time was 3pm so we had contacted the hotel in advance asking for a room to be made available or for us to be able to use any shower facilities if not. Unfortunately there was no room available and so the check in clerk arranged for us to access the fitness centre and use showers there in order to freshen up before we headed out. All was going well and our family of four were showering until we were, somewhat rudely, confronted by someone (who failed to say who he was or what position he held) and they announced we were most definitely not allowed to use the showers and told to leave. Luckily for us we had almost finished showering and had therefore freshened up, however the confrontation left a very bad taste. When you pay £400 a night to stay in a hotel not only would you expect them to be more accommodating, they also are bucking the trend of every hotel I’ve stayed at in the world that are far more accommodating to guests needs in these situations.

So if you are on a long journey and arrive early, don’t expect to be able freshen up.

Personally I think The Cumberland was a good experience overall, but definitely they didn’t make us feel as welcome as we’d expect upon arrival.

I booked 2 rooms (classic twin) one of the rooms have coffee machine and the other not, we ask them they said you need to upgrade in order to get the machine. I said in booking coffee maker included in the room facilities they said we meant the water kettle!!!
Also, I order dinner in the room I asked how long it’s will take they said around 50 minutes after around 2 hours I called them 4 times and there is no answer I went down they said you didn’t get email confirmation that means your order not submitted!!! Even they didn’t mention that I should get the email.
If you order water they will said the water will come only if you request to clean the room and you will get 2 bottles a day

We stayed here for one night whilst attending a concert in Wembly. On the plus side, the location is handy for central London and close to tubes, but on the negative side, being at Marble Arch means being situated right on Oxford Street which nowadays is best avoided unless by hardened tourists desperate to stock up on tacky London souvenirs and Primark goods. Staff were polite.
Negatives, there are alot. First of all, the entire place has a very cloying smell, best described at strong air freshner desperately trying to cover up the smell of drains. There is loud music playing everywhere. Breakfast was mass produced, buffet fare. Frozen defrosted pastries, poor quality bread, piles of melon and cheap deli meats and then canteen style cooked breakfast. I asked if I could order poached eggs and was given a firm no, this was a buffet breakfast only. When you consider Premier Inn will always make poached eggs to order, this is incredibly poor of the Cumberland when paying £350 per night for a standard room. Rooms were clean and comfortable but basic. Instant coffee rather than a coffee machine. Basic toiletries, thin crusty towels. Again, not at all value for money. The hotel is big and very busy, it feels more like a mass catered service for gullible tourists rather than a quality hotel which I would have expected for the price. There are much better hotels of a higher quality availble at equally impressive locations, so unfortunately, feeling slightly ripped off, I can't recommend the Cumberland, nor will we be returning.

We decided to stay at this hotel for two nights after visiting a few times recently for food and wanted to see what they offered for the prices they charge. We were given a room on level 1, a Gold King room which we paid slightly more for. This room was rather disappointing, it was extremely small, we have stayed in rooms much bigger in a Premier Inn, and I am not quite sure what they offer more to warrant it's prices. My husband spoke to reception and was told the manager would call him back, which he never did! We had to ask for the complimentary slippers and robes, which did arrive promptly.

We took advantage on the £10 green credit you receive if you don’t have your room serviced. However, be aware if you do receive one, this cannot be used if buying 2 for 1 cocktails, we learnt this after ordering ours and the barman telling us that credit cannot be used against any other offers within the hotel, which would have been good to know before we ordered, perhaps reception staff should be telling customers when they collect them. You are also charged £1 each for a glass of tap water at the bar!!

There is a good selection at breakfast but it’s all buffet style, even the coffee comes out of a machine you queue to collect. The waiting staff were all very friendly and helpful.

In a nutshell, we have stayed at several hotels now in London, including the Royal Horseguards which is part of the same hotel group, and feel this one does not warrant the prices they charge. If you’re just paying for its location, then I’d rather save the £100’s of pounds and use the tube.

Dear Rosie, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We truly value your insights, as they help us enhance our services. I apologize for the disappointing aspects of your stay, particularly regarding the size of your room, the lack of communication from our reception staff, and the confusion about the green card policy. Your experience does not reflect the high standards we strive to maintain. I am especially concerned about the charge for tap water at the bar. This is not in line with our usual practice, and I would like to investigate this matter further. Could you please reach out to me directly with more details about when and where this occurred? Your assistance will help us address this issue appropriately. It's encouraging to hear that you found our waiting staff friendly and enjoyed the breakfast selection, despite the buffet style. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a stay that exceeds your expectations. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss your experience further and how we can make it right. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. Best regards, Guest Services, The Cumberland

My daughter and I just got back from a week at The Cumberland. The hotel, although in a great location, left me a little underwhelmed for the $500/night price tag. I was aware that the rooms would be on the smaller side, however, I did expect to have some kind of dresser/drawer space with the "Gold King" I had booked. I had to keep my luggage on the desk and live out of my suitcase, while my daughter had her suitcase stacked on top of mine for the whole week. The room was tiny and had a very odd urine like odor when inside the entryway/bathroom. Almost like a cat urine smell. I had mentioned this to the front desk and they told me they'd have someone check it out, however the smell remained the whole week and was very overpowering at times. As soon as we checked into to the room, we noticed the toilet flusher was loose and not working. We had to call maintenance to come replace it. All week, we had issues with the flusher, but didn't bother to mention it again. On several occasions, housekeeping had come but would leave us only one towel. We were two people who took between 1 and 2 showers per day. Every time I'd call down to reception, nobody would pick up. I would have to go down to the concierge desk to request more towels each time. One morning, I had noticed a housekeeper in the linen closet outside my room in which I asked for four towels. I left the stack on my bed. When I came back for the night, another housekeeper removed the towels from my room....which really bothered me. Customer service was alright....some staff friendlier than others. Nobody seemed to go out of their way or give you a little extra something to make your day. I had ran into an employee in the elevator with drinks/snacks for replenishing the rooms. I had mentioned that I didn't have anything in our fridge. He asked me what room # I was and then told me that I was entitled to have some drinks put in. When I mentioned this to the receptionist that he had said they could put a couple drinks in the fridge so my daughter could take her medicine at night, she said, oh no, sorry, you're only in the Gold King...you don't get that perk. Feel free to go to the gift shop to buy some water. That's fine and all, but for a 4/5 star hotel, one would expect them to say, sure well put some water bottles in there for you. The hotel had a good/fun vibe at night with the Sound bar/lounge area, although the bartenders/servers weren't all that friendly and never came to the tables to take orders. Had to wait at the bar for 20 minutes for 2 drinks. Overall, we had a great time. The hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable, however if I went back to London, I would probably choose another hotel, maybe closer to the London Tower/London Eye area.

Dear jo jo pro pro l, Thank you for taking the time to share your recent stay experience at The Cumberland Hotel. We sincerely apologise that your time with us fell short of your expectations, particularly given the price point. We understand your disappointment with the limited storage space in the Gold King room. We strive to provide accurate descriptions of our room offerings, but we will certainly review our communication to ensure guests are fully aware of the layout and amenities in each category. We are deeply sorry about the unpleasant odor in your room and the malfunctioning toilet. It's unacceptable that these issues persisted throughout your stay despite notifying the front desk. We will be thoroughly investigating this matter to ensure such problems are addressed promptly and effectively in the future. We apologise for the housekeeping inconsistencies you experienced with towels and the miscommunication regarding complimentary refreshments. Our housekeeping service standards should provide a seamless and consistent experience, and we clearly fell short in this instance. We appreciate your feedback on the bar service at the SOUND Bar. We expect our staff to be attentive and welcoming, and we will address this concern with the bar team to ensure a more positive experience for future guests. We're glad you found the hotel clean and comfortable, and that you enjoyed the overall vibe of the SOUND Bar. While we're disappointed you wouldn't consider returning to The Cumberland Hotel, we appreciate your honest feedback and will use it to improve our guest experience in all areas. If you'd be open to discussing your experience further, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at info.thecumberland@guoman.co.uk. We stayed here for my Mums Birthday treat whilst visiting the capital to see Abba Voyage. A taxi to the hotel was only approx £12 so between 4 of us wasn't worth bothering with the tube & our luggage. We arrived to be greeted by a member of staff who directed us to check-in which was very straight forward, friendly & informative. We were very grateful to be allowed to check in early to allow my mum half hour to rest as she struggles with mobility. Also had to have a cheeky selfie with the London Taxi in reception! 🤣 On arrival at the room we were thrilled to find a complimentary bar (with this room type) and a complimentary bottle of prosecco & chocolates for the birthday girl! What a great start! When we left we found taxis queuing up outside which was just fantastic & made life so much easier for my mum! When we returned back later that evening, the DJ was in full swing in the foyer and we found a great booth where we sat and enjoyed the music with some cocktails! What a great night! The next morning I used the gym which was great to melt away the overindulgences (well some!) and the shower and products were very enjoyable & refreshing. Breakfast was delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection, plenty of choice including pastries, muffins, cereals, fruit, traditional breakfast items and an omlette station which we loved! If you're looking for a hotel for 3 or 4 adults consider the family rooms here because by the time you split the cost it's good value for money. I've already booked to go back again in July! Cannot wait! Thank you for such a lovely stay 💕 xx

We stayed two nights at the Cumberland on the recommendation of a flight attendant who typically stays there on her trips to London. It did not disappoint! Service at check in and the concierge was friendly and fast. Our Family Gold room was larger than expected for a London room, extremely clean, and very quiet. Additional amenities like free bottled water and tea and biscuits were also very much appreciated. The location is also great; it is right around the corner from the Marble Arch tube station and a few more steps to the 30 bus. Would definitely recommend!
