We chose to taxi from the station but it is a viable access by walking. Also there is a great bus service from the station to the clock tower right near the guest house. I loved the image of the Chestnuts House on the Airbnb site and I was not disappointed with the decor and relaxed feel of the house....

Chestnuts is located in between Windermere and Bowness and for us absolutely perfect. We requested a room with a four poster bed and a corner bath on a high floor and got exactly that. The breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. The bed was was soooo comfortable. Dressing gowns in the cupboard I thought were a lovely touch and...

Lovely guest house situated half way between Windermere and Bowness, about 10 minutes walk to Windermere, 30 minutes to the lake side at Bowness. We were offered tea or coffee on arrival, which Heather said she would leave in the breakfast room for us, she also left some lovely biscuits!! The house is very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is very...

Visited Chesnuts for the second time a few weeks back, things were just how we remembered them the first time. The rooms are quiet, the beds so comfortable, the breakfast, perfect start to the day. Which leads me on to a previous negative review! Sour grapes I feel. Why some people make fools of themselves by posting negative reviews when...

Myself and my husband stayed here for three nights from 9th September. We arrived quite early at 10.45am but on our arrival Heather gave us tea and cake while we waited for the room to be ready. This only took about 20 minutes and we were extremely grateful that we were able to have the room so early after a...

I completely disagree with the review left by the couple who stayed in the attic room in September. We too were in the attic room and had no complaints whatsoever regarding the accommodation or bathroom facilities. The room was light, well apportioned and the bathroom was exactly what you would need. We found the hosts generous, well informed, helpful, polite...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sympathetically updated throughout January 2017, Chestnuts is an attractive Victorian B&B offering seven individually styled bedrooms, many with original period features. With a choice of doubles, four-poster rooms and a twin room, all guest bedrooms have en-suite showers or baths, and plenty of little luxuries from free Wi-Fi to a hot drinks station. The house itself is over a century old, and sits in a quiet area, surrounded by a secluded garden, and ample off-road parking for guests. The dining room is an airy room, with high ceiling, and benefits from an original fireplace, perfect for an early winter’s morning. Chestnuts is an easy five-minute walk from Windermere centre, and ten-minutes’ walk to Bowness and Lake Windermere; making it an ideal location for the scenic Lake cruises, England’s highest peak Scarfell Pike and a mainline train station. ... more   less
