For anyone in search of a luxury break in the Lakes you cannot go wrong with Gilpin, excellent staff, great service, fantastic setting ( Lake House is exceptional ) really nice place to stay. We had a junior suite which was very nice, though the bathroom was quite dated in design & fittings. In my opinion the restaurant has a...

Just back from an overnight stay here after a number of visits over the years. Has it improved when you always feel it's been a lovely stay? Amazingly the family continue to find things that make it even more enjoyable. Love the Nespresso machines! What can we say about the addition of the new chef. Superb! We had lunch and...

My wife and I stayed here one night on our way down from Glasgow to the south of England. We had seen a TV documentary on the search for an executive chef and decided to stay in one of the hotels featured in this program. This proved to be a good decision. We arrived early afternoon and were warmly welcomed...

If you want more than just a little touch of heaven then give the Gilpin a go. Rooms like something out of a movie. Food to die for, and served by people who really do love their jobs. Nothing too much to ask for. Gardens breathtaking. They even park your car for you. Take your bags to your room. Just...

The hotel is amazing, super clean... Very friendly staff, great room service! Good locality! This place just made our trip! Would love to go back! The different breakfast/lunch/dinner room views are awesome! If you want halal/zabiha meat- you need to let them know in advance for your meals and they will provide it.

Arrived here after a horrendous journey and our frazzled senses were immediately calmed by warm welcome and the tranquil and luxurious environment of the Lake House. Our room, Harriet, was impeccable - comfortable, spacious, tastefully decorated and with stunning views. We spent quite a lot of time during our 3 night stay sitting in comfortable chairs simply enjoying the view,...

Me and my fiancé stayed here in the dolly wagon pike room. We paid for the gold package. On arrival got driven to the lake house to have one of the best massages overlooking the lake. Driven back to have our bags waiting in our room. The hot tub was brilliant in the garden. We had cream tea and champagne...

My husband and I spent 2 nights in the Grasmere room at the Hotel last week as part of our celebrations for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It was our first visit to the Lakes and we had no idea quite how beautiful the area is. Gilpin is obviously not on a lake but the countryside around the property is lovely...

We booked a Saturday lunch here to celebrate a birthday with a friend, and it was perfect. Very relaxed, stylish and not atall fussy or pretentious. The food was excellent and so was the decor and beautiful views from the windows. Could not have been better. There was a small function going on in another dining room, but the design...

This was our 3rd stay at the hotel celebrating my Hubby's 50th Birthday. We spent 3 nights at the Hotel staying in Troutbeck & 3 nights at The Lake House staying in Maud. We could not have celebrated anywhere better. It was the first time we'd stayed at the Lake House & we would not hesitate to book it again...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
