My wife and I stayed here for one night D B&B in Cleabarrow. A nice hotel, light and welcoming with a goodlounge and bar area. We arrived in the afternoon and took advantage of their relationship with the Old English spa in the centre of Bowness (5 mins drive). They serve dinner in three rooms and we chose the conservatory...

Gilpin is a special place and on this, our second visit, we were lucky to secure "Harriet" at the Lake House sadly for only one night. It's like staying in a private house...albeit someone with impeccable taste. The room is beautiful and looks out onto the Tarn. The bathroom is also large and has all mod cons. Dinner is served...

We stayed overnight on a package including afternoon tea, a 7-course taster menu dinner and spa treatment. From the moment we arrived, the peace was wonderful. The room was beautifully appointed with a very comfortable bed. The food was amazing throughout with service to match. The Jetty Spa and Lakehouse were another oasis of calm. The treatments were done in...

Perfect for any family event. All the staff were very attentive as you would expect from a really classy establishment. Great food and good atmosphere. Very comfortable rooms and lounge area. It was a significant birthday event for my wife and all the essential details were just perfect.

The staff were exceptionally helpful and took genuine care to get things right. The whole dinner experience was a delight. We were there on the bank holiday weekend, having booked a Master Room, and it was so booked up that we could not move rooms to one that had a full-sized bed (queen or king). Our room had two short...

The Gilpin is an immaculate country retreat with equally immaculate rooms, set in a very peaceful part of the Windermere area. The comprehensive breakfast is a highlight and the perfect way to start the day, especially if you've planned a long walk. We stayed for dinner on the first evening and it was also excellent. But what set the Gilpin...

An upmarket contemporary take on the country house hotel. Everywhere was beautifully decorated and maintained, and with meticulous attention to detail. The food was on a par with 1* Michelin restaurants we have used, and hopefully their own star will not be long coming. Breakfast was excellent. The real stand out feature was the exceptionally welcoming and friendly nature of...

We are just back from a two-night anniversary stay in Harriet at Gilpin Lake House. Wow; what a place; as close to perfection as I think we've seen in the UK. It's certainly not cheap, but you really do get what you pay for. At the Lake House, you feel like you have the 100 acres to yourselves - we...

We had a fabulous stay at the Gilpin Hotel in August - the staff were all very friendly and welcoming, the hotel itself is lovely and the food outstanding. We booked on the basis of seeing it on a TV show, as well as other visitors reviews, and were blown away with it - we will return. We stayed in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China. ... more   less
