Went for my 40th birthday meal after Holbeck Ghyll had cancelled my wife's reservation that had been in place for months with 2 days notice (between christmas and new year). Not only had they fitted us in at such short notice, but also the whole experience was just wonderful. Great wine list (Martinis to start, Sancerre and Sauternes to finish)....

We stayed two nights here and had great food, beautifully presented and tasty. Brilliant Cumbrian breakfast with a lovely view of the lake. The interiors have an old world feel, I think it is William Morris wallpaper and open fireplaces. Very nice staff. This is an old world feel, internet isn't the fastest but everything was lovely.

My wife and I enjoyed two nights and had a wonderful room. The staff couldn't be more obliging. Highly recommend for a stay. However the food, for us, was not what we had been led to believe prior to taking this trip. A very limited menu, great visible presentation of food (very Nouvelle) but lacking in seasoning and taste! Portions...

There were 6 of us booked in for a weekend and from the moment we walked in we were made so welcome, it was like going to a good friend's home. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, from a complicated meal order to a top up of hot water for the teapot. The architecture and furniture were...

The view from this hotel is really superb. Whether you are sitting in the conservatory or outside enjoying glorious sunshine, which we had last weekend, the subtle changes of colour on the hills beyond the lake were breathtaking. Our rooms were clean but small and there is no lift to access the bedrooms. The dining room was bright with sparkling...

Good point - the cuisine is excellent, the evening meal was among the best, if not the best, that we have ever experienced. Small portions but fantastic quality ingredients and exquisite tastes. Bad points: One morning I asked for some All Bran with my Weetabix and it was duly served. The next day I asked for the same again and...

Having wanted to stay here since John Tovey was in the kitchen, we thought we may be disappointed, however nothing could be further from the truth. We had a wonderful break, thank you. The hotel has wonderful views over the lake. There is plenty of room for relaxing and the furniture itself is a delight if you like Art Nouveau,...

Went to our favourite place The Lake District for four day break. Hotel very nice, room with a wonderful view. Restaurant very nice except the menu only has 4 starters, 4mains and 4 desserts. If you were there too long it would be boring especially as I only eat fish so limited to 2 choices on starter and main. The...

We spent a couple of days at Miller Howe celebrating my 60th Birthday and our joint retirement. We booked the cottage which is adjacent to the main building. This was a good choice as it was very spacious. The decor was a little tired but apart from that it is comfortable and has a very good bathroom. The highlight of...

the hotel is a lovely country house, having stayed here many times (and miss the John Tovey era) the package of Dinner bed and breakfast was incredible value. the rooms are simple, ours had a new bathroom which was very good, unfortunately the room our friends were in only had a plunge/hip bath. the views are stunning, the evening meal...
