I wasn't going to write a review of the poor stay at the George Hotel but after seeing the managements response to the previous review thought that I should. I also stayed in the hotel for the function that night and left comments at reception that were not followed up at the time I complained nor afterwards and it is... More

We stayed in the George hotel almost 12 months ago to the day and on that visit we had room 41 on the top floor which was spacious and had a fantastic ensuite bathroom. We were there for the SSAFA charity do and enjoyed an evening offside company, good food and good conversation, likewise the breakfast the following morning was... More

We had lunch at the Devonshire Restaurant at The George Hotel. The restaurant is beautiful, being a large traditional room with many lovely features. The food is excellent and the service very good indeed.

I stopped in here for the night whilst cycling the coast to coast route. They were kind enough to let me store my bicycle in their garage over night and at £60 they weren't too pricey. The room was smart and clean, the food was reasonable as were the prices. Over all nothing to complain about at all. It was... More

We stayed here for one night on 28th October. The room was immaculately clean and well appointed, with everything we needed. The receptionist, Raphael, could not do enough for us. He is an asset to this establishment. The George was a good experience and we would certainly return.

Just returned home from a night away at the George Hotel with my boyfriend. We were both really impressed with the George and especially our room (room 6). Gorgeous, spacious, an enormous comfy bed perfect for relaxing and the room itself was Tastefully decorated and very clean. Just what we wanted. Working within the hospitality industry myself I have quite... More

Having looked around for a weekend away with friends I came across The George. We certainly weren't disappointed. It is decked up for Christmas and it looked fantastic. The staff couldn't be any more accommodating. Very friendly, approachable and nothing too much trouble. The rooms were very luxurious and placed at the rear of the hotel which made them fairly... It’s Friday morning here in Penrith. Phew! I’m feeling jiggered … in need of refreshment after a bout of early Christmas shopping … decided to pop in to “The George Hotel” for much needed coffee & toasty. Amazeballs … I walked into a wonderful Christmassy fairyland. Their ‘Christmas’ decorations are up already!!!… Must say they look absolutely terrific – excellent!... More

I like the George very much and have stayed twice. The building itself is around 300 years old and is grade 1 listed, a real gem. Some of the rooms have been decorated in ultra modern style and others are traditional, both to good taste for the building. Breakfast is a real treat, order from a menu, silver coffee pots,...
