Returned to this hotel for a Xmas get together with friends: Our room was 26 at the back of the hotel. It was a large room with just a small radiator on the far wall: it was on and was hot: we thought it was cold because it was 5 degrees outside and maybe the room hadn't been occupied before...

Dear Mr Campbell, Thanks for your compliments regarding the food. If I may quote my initial response to you dated 2nd December via email: "We have also had the filters on the boilers cleaned as to optimise the central heating and the hot water." I hope this clears up any confusion as to the filters location. I do hope you...

Utterly disappointed with the service we received today at the George. My friend and I decided we would visit for a late lunch, and a late lunch it turned into be. We initially sat down in the front bar/dining area greeted by a young gent who sharply got us our drinks, we then waited some time for a food order...

We used this Hotel to break a trip North. The Hotel is in the centre of Penrith which a traditional market town at the junction of the A66/M6. Useful location for the lakes. Hotel has an old fashioned look and was decorated for Christmas. Bed rooms are comfortable and warm with excellent en suite bathroom. The full Cumberland Breakfast was...

I have visited the hotel for a few events but never before stopped over. It is a traditional small town English hotel with quirky corridors to loose your way in, and odd shaped rooms. You feel like you are getting into your grandmother's bath and the cutlery has been here for generations. And it's all great because of this.... It's...

The George hotel is located in the town centre so no need to use your car once you are here. Parking was easy and directions good. Quickly registered at reception and our room was available ahead of time. Room 6 was totally extravagant and beautifully appointed with quality fittings. Very large room and en-suite. The breakfast was excellent with a...

Looking for a dog friendly hotel in the lakes on the internet we came across The George, it sounded ok and the cost was reasonable so we booked 3 nights. What a lovely hotel in a lovely town. Good size room and en suite with bath and shower, dog basket and bowl in the room. Despite temperatures dropping to freezing...

Arrived on a dark wet November evening and was glad of the wave of warmth and smell of polished wood that greeted me. The George has a slight feel of being past its best but that rather adds to its quirky charm really. Staff are friendly and efficient. Room was quite small but the bed was very comfy and the...

We stayed for 4 nights and had a very pleasant stay. The service was good and the staff pleasant and friendly. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but this was good. The hotel is very old but is warm and comfortable with pleasant public areas. Visitors should be aware that, because it is so old, there is no lift....
