Old style hotel clean reception area with helpful staff. The bedrooms are fitting with a lakeland building on the small side but as expected. Dining room staff very helpful and the food was lovely. Our aim was to catch up with family and staying up late was no problem to staff, although we did not need to use the bar,...

We stayed here with our dog and got a lovely room overlooking the garden. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent location for exploring the surrounding countryside but not too busy. Excellent value and fab breakfasts. Nice bar area and lounges with coal fires to relax and read a book

Booked for a short stay just to unwind and this didn't disappoint. Every member of staff that we came into contact with (Antony, Barry, Eva and Ion) were super helpful and smiley and nothing was too much trouble. Ate in the restaurant on both nights we stayed and both myself and my husband thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Room was spacious...

Having stayed at the Macdonald hotel in Ullswater last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was looking forward to coming here but it has been a huge disappointment. My room was a reasonable size but was fitted with bashed and mix matched furniture I would have expected to find in a second rate B&B. The carpet was ancient and filthy,...

Stayed with the wife for 3 nights DB&B in Feb. It was our second visit to this hotel, and won't be the last! Comfy rooms, very friendly staff, great food and a cosy bar. Parked the car on the day we arrived, and didn't use it again until heading for home, as some great walks all nearby, and Grasmere village...

Revisiting anywhere after a significant period of time presents challenges for expectations. We expected a stellar experience from 'Who has not heard of ye famous Swan' and against that we were disappointed. However, this is a pleasant hotel. The best features are the breakfasts and the small but well run bar. 3/4 real ales, other lagers and ciders all in...

After staying in a number of Macdonald chain hotels this was not what I was expecting. This is not a bad thing , I was expecting a large soulless hotel but this was better and more fitting for a February Lake District stay in the rain and snow. We were greeted by a warm welcoming reception area with comfy couches...
