Was recommended by family who had visited previously while in the Lake District and we were most impressed. The choice of beers ( which they brew on site ) is great as is the quality . The food is also first class . I can't recommend highly enough the home made pate which they serve with bread and a lovely... More

This centrally located Inn is a gem. We stayed in of their cottages adjoining the pub and it was clean, comfy and warm. The Inn itself was too, with a fine selection of ultra-good pub grub, served up with a good selection of wines, and more importantly- for selfish old me - excellent real ales !

just how a pub should be,it's a great traditional pub with amazing beers, the blue bird bitter that's brewed on site was to die for. We had lunch, sausage and mash was excellent,.however the children's fish fingers not the best quality. Can't wait to got back for that pint.

Stayed in Coniston for the weekend and visited the Black Bull for dinner twice. The selection of ales from the adjoining Coniston Brewing Co are excellent, and I tried a few to be able to make a fair judgment! Bluebird bitter and the oatmeal stout are both worth a try. The food was also very good, pork belly with pulled... More

Good quality food, for both dinner and breakfast - cooked quickly and to order. Friendly staff at all times. Excellent atmosphere in the evening. Some bedrooms in a separate annex. Oh, and there's a brewery on-site, meaning that the beer is as local as can be!

This pub used to be great, however, it seems to have really gone downhill in recent years. Visited a couple of times last week during a stay in self catering accommodation in Coniston and found the staff to be unhelpful, miserable and quite rude at times. The food was fine if a tad over priced for what it is. They... More

Staying in Coniston for a family half term birthday celebration break. Meal for 5, with dog, sat in the lovely cozy snug. Staff were friendly and efficient and food arrived quickly. Food was excellent. Haddock and chips, Gammon, egg and pineapple (x3!), Cumberland sausage. All excellent and very generous portions. Absolutely superb super crispy onion rings! Great crispy chips. Superb... More

We stayed here for a few nights last week. The room had damp up the walls, there was never any hot water, the food and drinks in the pub are overpriced, the staff are miserable and the clanking barrells from the brewery will wake you up at the crack of dawn. Disappointing.

I stayed at Coniston twice in October 2016. I ate in the Black Bull every night - total five. This is one of the best places anywhere to eat: excellent food, prompt service, just what's needed after a day on the fells. Great beer too, especially the Bluebird XB. It doesn't get any better than this, although if there's a... More

Six of us chaps spent three nights here in October for our regular six-monthly walking breaks. Over many years we must have stayed in 30 Lake District pubs, some several times, but this was our first here. We have definitely missed out, because the ownership & many staff have been largely unchanged over this period. Food & service great. Beer... More
