Had a lunch here. It won some award, but I dont know how. Food quality was not high. Cheese on toast was not attractive to look at and my pie, well, clearly not home made, so sad, I was hoping for more. I was told staff dont get the tips!!!, so was surprised by that, not usual as far as I am aware, and seems unfair on hard working staff, under hard times
Myself and my family visited The Yewdale for dinner and drinks, we were greeted by a blonde lady who we later found out to be the land lady, Kay. It was a fairly busy evening but Kay and her team was very attentive to our and the rest of the familys requests, my daughter has dietary requirements and this was not an issue when we were ordering our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Yewdale, nice atmosphere, the fish and chips was amazing. This was our first visit since the place has changed hands and it will definitely not be our last visit. Thanks Kay and your fantastic team, hope to see you the next time we are in Coniston.
Had a great meal today. Pizzas were fantastic, would thoroughly recommend (wood fire oven baked). We are both vegetarians and they had great veggie toppings for them too. The Ale was great too, now onto the Tiramisu!!
It's not run by owners and so while the friendly staff do their best there's no overall sense of someone being on top of everything, and there were a few small glitches during our stay. The beer was well kept and dinner and breakfast just fine although the mid week menu is a bit limited. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable but the bathrooms need replacing. Pretty good on Covid precautions although when we checked out the member of staff had forgotten to put on their mask/visor that morning.
No complaints with our room, although the shower was old, tv, tea/coffee, towels etc in room were spot on. On booking, their website said they had parking onsite, on arrival the parking area is now table and chairs so we had to rely on street parking. Do not expect on site parking. We booked bed and breakfast, no information was given on arrival about breakfast times and we did forget to ask so we relied on the guest information booklet in our room (why wouldn’t you)? Breakfast time 8:30-11:00, we went down at 09:45 to find no tables set up, no one around to ask! Another guest told us breakfast had ended at 09:30am so we had paid for breakfast but didn’t get it. We drank & ate in the pub area on the evening which was fine, we felt the bar staff did want us out; it was 9pm when we asked for another drink to be told “I need to close at 9:50pm” which is fair enough but she had served a gentleman only minutes before. We did get another drink and were out in plenty of time. Drinks can be taken to your room. One member of staff we found so helpful & friendly, she was hoovering on our arrival; said to just ask if we needed anything, problem was no one around the next morning to ask about breakfast, the key we had to leave on a desk. Track and trace in place, hand sanitizer to use, social distancing adhered to. The hotel is situated in the centre, approx one mile to the lake, two pubs close by all do food. We did enjoy Coniston just disappointed with our stay at Yewdale.…
