I can't rate The Waterwheel highly enough. From the warm and friendly welcome, to the fond farewells at the end of our stay. The attention detail was spot on from start to finish. My partner and I stayed in the Rattleghyll room located on the second floor of this charming and charismatic B&B. The room was spotlessly clean, had such...

I cannot recommend this place highly enough!!! We stayed here over Easter for 3 nights and had the most incredible time. We’ve been visiting the lakes for walking holidays every year since 2006, and this was the best trip yet thanks to or great experience at the Waterwheel. Paul and James are perfect hosts, really friendly and helpful. They gave...

We stayed in the Waterwheel Guest house for three nights, arriving on the first night late in the evening and they were very accommodating. The room was extremely clean, well furnished and they went an extra mile with small details including home made ginger biscuits and a decanter of port. Breakfast was lovely and good variaty for a small B&B....

My fiancée and I stayed at The Waterwheel Guesthouse mid April for 3 nights and had the most amazing time. This is our fourth visit and it somehow keeps on getting better and better. Paul and James are incredible hosts! Upon arrival, we were welcomed by Paul who took our bags and then showed us to our room (Rattleghyll) where...

The standout feature of the Waterwheel is the decoration. It's a small little house, but every little detail is so nicely judged. Bathrooms are new but heritage style fixtures keep the tone with the antique bedroom furniture. Paul and James are fantastic hosts too. Really friendly, but never overbearing, giving advice and suggestions only when asked. Great location on a...

Short stay in Ambleside, unfortunately we had to cut the trip short as my partner was unwell, however we wish we could have stayed at the Waterwheel Guest House longer. The property is beautiful, historic and tastefully decorated and maintained to a high standard. I couldn't praise the hosts Paul and James enough as they made us both feel very...

The Waterwheel guesthouse is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing break in the Lakes. Throughout our stay James and Paul were incredibly warm and helpful - particularly with suggestions for places to eat and spots to explore. Its location in the centre of Ambleside ensures there are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants on its doorstep, whilst being...

Paul & James' guesthouse was the perfect Lake District hideaway. My boyfriend & I stayed here over a weekend and the Waterwheel Guesthouse was an ideal place to stay. The final touches such a lemon drizzle cake, and port in the room were lovely, and really added to the stay. The room was absolutely beautiful - spotless with a few...

First time taking my partner to the lakes. I have previously preferred to stay in more secluded villages, but I have to say we made the best choice staying in this guesthouse in Ambleside. We were both made to feel very welcome by the owners Paul and James, who really looked after us during our stay giving lots of really...

A charming guesthouse tucked in the heart of Ambleside, Paul and James have made The Waterwheel a home away from home with their attention to detail and expert hosting. Our room, Rattleghyll, was extremely clean and beautifully decorated; each day there was a different treat (homemade lemon cake, shortbread etc.) to accompany the port! The bathroom was spacious and contained...
