What a place to stop and watch the weather over the hills. Good bear from kirkstone brewery. Nice roaring fire to keep warm. Did not have food but it looked good. If you can try and get a seat outside

We stayed at the Kirkstone Pass Inn Bunk room for a weekend while canoeing the Lakes. Good basic bunks with a shower, toilet and 2 basins. We arrived very late after a terrible 350 mile, 9.5 hour drive and their kept the Pub open until we had arrived and were still very welcoming. We had their cooked breakfast and an... More

Popped in here whilst we were wild camping near by on a wild, wet and misty night. We had already eaten (dehydrated meals) which was a great shame as the food here looked brilliant - especially the curries. So we enjoyed a few beers instead in good company, and a lovely atmosphere. So we had a few more..... The only... More

A warm welcome awaits you on a cold October evening with a lovely open fire. I ordered the steak with all the trimmings it was superb. Alas I was driving but would have like to have tried the local ales. Friendly bar staff. Very remote location but stunning views

The place is haunted and room 3 has an un easy presence there. However that didn't spoil our stay because that's what myself and my wife are in to. Haunted get aways. The struggle.. I totally underestimated the struggle, it's an absolute nightmare getting there but it did add to the experience. Nice food, welcoming staff expecially the gentleman with... More

If you are looking for a five star posh hotel then the Kirkstone is not for you. But.... If you are looking for somewhere to eat good food and drink good ale with a room available after a hard day on the fells then look no further. Alternatively, with Ambleside just down the "struggle" and Windermere only a boat trip... More

Stopped to take a few photos and have a coffee but looking around at the menu around the room we were tempted to stay for lunch. My wife had a lovely jacket potato with a generous topping of cheese and coleslaw. I just had to have the meat fellman's a nice selection of meats and pate. A good pint of... More

Historic lovely pub, busy and friendly. Walkers and dogs in abundance and it can be very windy. The Kirkstone Pass is a MUST drive road down to Ullswater. Pub nothing spectacular but all you need to watch the scenery. Call in for a drink if you are passing

My boyfriend and I had an evening meal here twice in the week we were on holiday in Ambleside. After a day's walking on the fells there is no better place to kick off your boots and tuck into a proper home cooked meal. I had the steak and ale pie with fresh vegetables ( cooked perfectly) and a really... More

I thought this place was the highest pub in England. I was wrong, it's the 3rd. But it is the highest in the Lake District ! 1500 +ft! I've got an old camper van type thingy, so getting up here was a challenge. But we made it, and quite comfortably actually. There's a convenient car park opposite, do dived in... More
