We booked a two night stay at Rothay manor for January 2016 where we had stayed many times before. Although it was very wet and windy we went ahead because the comfort and food at the hotel cannot normally be faulted. When we arrived we found the hotel had changed hands and there was a new chef. Our chosen room...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. Your comments are important to us, and in the light of this we have altered the dinner menu to include a few more dishes (thus giving more choice) and we will also be offering a "residents specials" menu, so hopefully there will be too many dishes to choose from! I...

I felt like we had stepped back in time to another era, an era where good manners prevail, along with polite and yet at the same time personal and friendly customer service (impressed that the staff knew our name when we came down to the lounge before dinner). The experience was all very civilised and elegant. No mobile phones ringing...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am terribly sorry that we ran out of the dishes that you wanted, and will do our best to ensure this doesn't happen again. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay, and when you return we will be sure to have a fully-available menu!

Ambleside is our favourite location and we visit regularly but this was our first visit to this hotel. We stayed in room 11 which was spotlessly clean and had a lovely sofa area in an alcove. Breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly. Hotel has lovely gardens and when we came back from a walk in the afternoon there...

My wife and I can only give the highest feedback rating for our stay at the Rothay Manor Hotel in Ambleside. The en-suite bedroom had a king size bed and was large with a couch, the bathroom had a bath and separate shower. The hotel was freshly decorated and comfortably warm throughout (December visit). The four course evening meal and...

We always stay here prior to our timeshare week at Langdale, having done so for many, many years and cannot praise it enough. We arrive after a long journey and are made very welcome. We have superior room 1, which has a large balcony overlooking Loughrigg, a huge bathroom with separate shower stall and a very comfortable bed! A short...

We have an apartment in Ambleside and have had many family special get togethers at the Rothay Manor. We stayed for a couple of nights as our family were using our apartment, it was delightful, very comfy bed, staff friendly and helpful and breakfasts kept us going all day. The finnan haddock was the best I have ever had. We...

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the hotel with 18 friends. The hotel is well located, just 10 minutes walk from the centre of the bustling village of Ambleside. All members of our party were delighted with the hotel's location and its easy and generous car-parking. We had exclusive use of one of the hotel's beautifully furnished...

A nostalgic return visit after almost thirty years to this this lovely old fashioned hotel. It's set in a peaceful location away from the very busy village, has attentive but unobtrusive service and is very comfortably furnished. Their 'house party' atmosphere encouraged fellow guests to mingle after dinner, but it was possible to be alone if required. The staff took...

We took our disabled Mother with us (90th birthday treat) and were very pleased to have an adapted room for her, handrails in the bathroom with a walk in shower, a twin/family room. It is next to reception and very convenient. My husband took the '' Gun Room'' a single room. It is very small, but adequate, with a very...
