We stayed locally and as such decided to dine in the walkers/climbers bar as it was literally a 2 minutes walk away. We were looking forward to a rustic bar meal and we weren't disappointed. My wife had a vegetarian meal and I had a pie that was piping hot and served with some fantastic chips. The pie, Game Pie,...

This is the place to end a walk of the Lakeland Fells with a beer or two from the many real ales on offer. Good beer, no frills. The plain bar can accommodate lots of thirsty walkers on a wet and cold day. Otherwise take one of the many picnic tables outside and admire the views of Great Langdale.

Stopped while walking Cumbria Way. Rooms were clean although a bit dated. Bar food was a bit limited and dining room was closed (seemed to be advertising for a chef). Beautiful lounges to relax in with lots of old paintings to view. Breakfast vey good and staff friendly.

We stayed at the Old dungeon Ghyll whilst on a trek and as we have always wanted to stay here we incorporated it in our walk from Windermere via Hawkshead through Langdale then over to Borrowdale, we were not dissapointed. The hotel is everything we could have wished for, lovely room with views, fluffy towels, hot shower and luxury bath...

Got a great last minute deal for a one night stay. Been many times and never had a bad word to say about the place. Room 14 on top floor had great views from both windows down the valley and across to Bowfell. Had our evening meal in residents bar and I must recommend the gammon and real chips. Next...

Food was great in residents bar and restaurant - had two great breakfasts and equally good dinners, hikers bar had great beers and atmosphere which was ideal after a long walk, great staff (including the peripatetic Derek...

Spent a fabulous long weekend at The ODG. From the warm welcome to the truly excellent food, beer, great rooms and attentive staff our stay was faultless. The Hikers' Bar is a dream after a jaunt up Scafell Pike and back. It absolutely rocks and is analogous to Après Ski in Davos but right in the heart of dear Ol'...

I stayed here as a solo traveller in a single room with a separate private shower room directly next door. My room was clean and comfortable with all I needed. Very comfy bed. Brilliant shower and nice toiletries. The breakfast was great with plenty of choice and hearty quantity! Lovely guest sitting room and nice outside seating for having a...

This hotel is old fashioned and has not been modernised. That is its charm in this out of the way corner of the Lake District. But what truly makes the hotel is its staff - fantastically friendly, nothing is too much trouble and if help is needed it is usually offered before you can even think to ask for it....
