This is a little lovley old pub at the head of the Langdale Valley, and ideal place for a pint, for any walkers or climbers passing by. It is always busy, it is also a good place to stay. They also serve a variety of food and lovley homemade flapjack and slices.

I'm perhaps biased as I have spend many nights in the ODG and the beer and craic is brilliant. If you like real beer and real pubs the Old is a classic. With its open fire, this former cattle byre is perhaps the ultimate in 'outdoor' pubs and its not unusual for the landlord to get his fiddle out and...

Right in the middle of spectacular walking country, this is an oasis! Lovely comfortable, en suite, dog friendly room with mountain views from two windows. Theakstons Old Peculiar on tap. Delicious home cooked food in walker's size portions. Great breakfast selection. Can't wait to go back!!

We have just come back from a two night stay. The hotel was ideal for us as we were walking the Langdale's. The staff are very friendly and the rooms were spotless if a little small. The breakfast was excellent so cannot understand the other comments. We had our evening meals in the hotel and these were fine. This is...

Happen to visit the pub at Old Dungeon Ghyll...must say a very nice place...very old look, kept it as is...real fireplace..at the foot of the hill...we didn't hike or stayed at the hotel, but would love to do that some day..

We stayed here for one night as part of a walking holiday. Check in was efficient and we were pleasantly surprised to be given an upgrade. Our room had a four poster bed and looked out on the hotel's lovely front garden. We opted for dinner in the restaurant and both enjoyed our meals. Amazingly they don't do breakfast until...

Having stayed in close proximity to both the Old and New Dungeon Ghyll Hotels, we had to feel a bit of sympathy for the Old DG. The other hotel has the advantage of Sticklebarn, the NT car park and is close to footpaths straight out to the major fells. Old Dungeon Ghyll is not so lucky and, sadly, is somewhat...

Have just enjoyed a short stay at The Old Dungeon Ghyll. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcome. The room was clean and comfortable with an immaculate en-suite. The adjoining Walkers' Bar was busy with a good atmosphere. Good setting off point to walk Scafell Pike and close to Windermere where there's a...

I have fond memories of this place, eaten in the Hikers' Bar and stayed in the hotel itself on many occasions over the last 30 years. What a disappointment. The 'no frills' atmosphere has been replaced by sheer neglect. New table tops in half the bar, yes, but the whole place smelled of urine from the toilets, which were just...

Loved everything about this old fashioned, historic pub. After seeing it on Hairy Bikers I was thrilled to see the old beams and loved the atmosphere- especially the friendly bar staff! Couldn't resist ordering some of their homemade desserts (UNREAL sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie) and they were delicious. The main meals of surrounding folk also looked fantastic. Nothing...
