Its central location is its saving grace although I should imagine parking in summer would be a nightmare. Landlord was friendly, barman also, but woman serving breakfast was grumpy and unhelpful. We didn't eat there but the prices seemed extremely steep and I would advise seeking out the Ambleside Tavern instead for great food at reasonable prices and with live...

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year; 2 adults, 2 teenage children and 2 rooms( one twin and one double). Its exactly what you would expect from an Inn in the lakes. Very good pub, great beer and good food. Location is excellent for rest Ambleside and for local walking. We loved the friendly staff and especially the greeting...

This is a very old traditional boozer,it is very homely, does decent beer & very good pub nosh if a little pricey. The room we had was a throwback to 1970s decor which was fine for us but all you flash Harry's out there who prefer Farrow & Boll---s paint will not be at home. You can hear the noise...

Stayed overnight after a days walking on the fells. Very welcoming and cosy place to be after a long day in the hills. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Town centre location, everything on your doorstep including the fells :)

The pub is quite small but has lots of character. The staff are good and drink & food good. There is live music which is entertaining. Best of all the pub is central to everything from the town of Ambleside to the local fells. If you plab to leave early a packed lunch is provided instead of breakfast and a...

We have recently returned from a 1 night stay at the Unicorn. We arrived early and werent expecting the room to be ready but we were given a friendly welcome, the key and a free drink which was very welcome. Because the inn is so oold the rooms are a bit tight in places and anyone over 5 feet 10...

We stayed for one night which was more than enough our room was a superior room god help what the other inferior rooms were like. The room was so old fashioned with pink bedding , a wardrobe which leaned drastically , no heating in room that you could control a shower that was stuck in the bathroom like a tardis...

If you like your ales and rustic approach this is good a nice lunchtime retreat after a long walk. The staff re very welcoming. Only one thing I that the decor is all a bit tired. Food was solid fare and pretty good value. Didn't stay in the accommodation so cant help with that

We stumbled across this place by accident, the rooms were clean and quirky, Paul the owner was so lovely and made us feel very welcome, his breakfast was lovely and he worked so hard seeing to everyone's needs. There was live music which created a lovely atmosphere, will defiantly return.
