What a disappointment. We had stayed at Smart and Simple exactly 10 years ago to celebrate a family friend's son's 30th birthday, now here we were back for the 40th. The Smart and Simple hotel we remembered was just that, no frills but a comfortable stay which was what we wanted at a decent price. This time around the place...

This hotel (now the Retreat) is right near the station, half way between the Museum and main shopping centre and the Pantiles. My room was clean and had all facilities and breakfast was superb. Service was excellent and all staff were polite.

What an awful awful hotel!! I wouldn't send my worst enemy here, staff are so rude (in particular a certain female member of staff) very unwelcoming and unhelpful. Supposed to stay for 7 days but checked out after 1! Dirty vile rooms and smells of sewage. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

A gem of a hotel that has recently changed its name to the Tunbridge Wells retreat. This previous winner of Channel 4's "4in a Bed" really is worthy of the award. The rooms are smart and simple and extremely competitively priced. It makes no claims of being a five star hotel but easily outshines it nearest competitors. The restaurant is...

Terrible Very poor Not good at all rooms were dirty and not cleaned properly. There was a strong smell of blocked drains actually in the bedroom. Staff were unhappy and it really showed. Breakfast was below poor with unhelpful staff.

Stayed here in August as we were attending a wedding near by. Staff were very helpful and let us know the best places to park, the hotel only has 2 spaces that were already taken! All in all a comfortable stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. The recent reviews didn't look great so we were a bit apprehensive, we shouldn't have been. Really warm welcome from the receptionist who seemed to be doing many jobs that evening! He still took the time out to show us around. As we had arrived in the...

We spent 2 nights here, in a spacious, clean and tidy room. All staff were well presented and helpful in every way. We asked for the use of a hair dryer and it was delivered to our room in less than 2 mins. Breakfast was freshly cooked, (not buffet style and being kept warm), was quickly prepared and very tasty.

I would say "cheap and nasty" rather than "smart and simple", only at £95.00 per night, for what was provided, was not cheap. Steer clear - The Travel lodge up the road is of better quality and represents better value for money. The good points - Quite Friendly staff, with a bar and restaurant that were clean, modern and bright....

I thought price was reasonable when I booked in, except when the receptionist stated I should have paid an extra circa £15 for a second guest for my double room, when already paid £96, which seemed excessive, given if I actually wanted food the morning after it would cost a further £6.99 per person, an offer I declined when seeing...
