The original 15th-century character has been respected and enhanced in this beautiful accommodation. Choose between themed rooms in the main house or modern rooms in the Stable Annexe, each with an abundance of thoughtful extras. Guests enjoy the 24-hr honesty bar, cosy lounges and bright, airy conservatory. Delightfully helpful service, free parking, free Wi-Fi & large, sunny heritage garden add to the appeal of this historically significant property which is a short stroll from shops, restaurants, bars, the marvelous Marlowe Theatre, bus and railway stations. Equally the City's historical sites and river Stour are steps away. Kent & Christchurch Universities and the famous Kent Cricket ground are all within easy proximity.

I travelled solo to Canterbury and stayed at the House of Agnes for three nights. I loved it and it made my visit to the city memorable. This is a really interesting, quirky place with loads of interesting features. The rooms are wonderfully decorated with individual themes.

Booked following a cancellation by another hotel nearby. Weren't we lucky! At the House of Agnes, we found great attention to detail, with an accent on quality, and wanted for nothing. From large good quality towels to good breakfasts, with too many items to list in between.

I would most definitely recommend House of Agnes and am looking forward to a return visit. It is welcoming, cute and quirky and the staff are amazing. It has a homely feel with lots of little seating areas and the honesty bar is a lovely touch. We stayed in the Toyko room

Dear Marie Many thanks for your enthusiastic review! We advertise ourself as 'Not an Ordinary Bed and Breakfast' so I am glad that this title has a positive connotation in your view :-) Our guests are absolutely wonderful too, so we are perhaps a relection of each other? We aim to provide a positive experience...not just of ourselves but also of Canterbury in general, as we feel it goes hand in hand. There's so much to do and see when staying in this fabulous City and the 600 year old House of Agnes is proud to be a small part of its exceptional history.

Modern double room in the Stable Annexe
The Cottage is not air conditioned.... British B&B's rarely are! You might like to check the link on my website called DISCOVER MORE ABOUT US On that link there is a PDF that shows you which rooms have tubs, where the room is located, whether they have fans or A/C. All our rooms have either fans or a/c dependent on the location.

Hello, The House of Agnes is ideally located in the City Center therefore some noise is inevitable. The trains are very unobtrusive (they're electric) but if you are a light sleeper then it's possible that you may be bothered by the seagulls, pigeons and various city noises. The Cottage room is garden facing and generally quiet but it depends on what we are comparing it to. I find that 'quietness' is relative to ones own home environment. I'm sorry I cant be more specific but I hope you will be encouraged by the fact that less that one in 2,000 of our guests ever mention a problem with noise. Kind regards, Sandie
