Wonderful visit to this beautiful hotel. As soon as you walk through the door it's a great first impressions with the beautiful thick modern carpet. Cocktail bar was great fun, bed was AMAZING and food was outstanding! Highly recommend.

I had the fortune to be invited for a Boxing Day lunch with my partners family and so this was the first time I have visited this place. On arrival the building looks welcoming and the staff in reception were very friendly. Our coats were collected and taken to the cloakroom and so as we were a little early we...

The location is not too far from St Albans town centre, so plenty to do if you are staying for a while. I emailed the team with a few questions before booking and about my stay and the responses were fast and courteous but also friendly, no standard text responses which I dislike! The reception team on arrival were very...

I booked only about 10 days in advance, having walked in with good luck on my side as they had availability for one of the dates I had in mind, to visit with my parents who were visiting from abroad. The welcome and service today were very good and the portions more than ample for all. I was offered an...

The public room and gardens are delightful, especially decked out with Xmas trees and decorations. Lunch: the first course, sweet, coffee and mince pies were good and nicely presented. The main courses were VERY DISAPPOINTING, and at £41 per person, we expected better. My son's venison, he declared as o.k, but felt that there ought to have been more than...

This hotel has it all, great customer service, great food, and fantastic rooms. The grounds this hotel sits on are very well looked after and have visited in the summer for a few drinks and food, Sitting outside looking over the lake. Will definitely visit again. Thank you

Family Sunday lunch for 6 adults. Staff were good and we were fortunate to have a 'window' table in the conservatory. Food quality is in line with a decent pub and at £40/head including one bottle of wine for 3 courses that is reasonable value for money. However hotel's food is not fine dining.

I stay in lots of hotels around the world all of good standard. However I have just stayed at St. Michael manor and the experience was just exceptional. It takes a lot to impress me due to my work in the travel industry, I always find a fault with hotels. There was nothing to fault with this hotel. Everything to...

It's forbidden to stay in the hall of the hotel because it is all booked for external people: in the afternoon for tea time, in the evening for marriages.... They are just interested to get more money from outside, not considering at all the service to the guests ! The only way you have is to stay prisoner in the...

Visiting family so went on Trip Advisor & St Michaels Manor looked good so we booked it. So glad we did. We wanted a quite room & we were not disappointed. Our room was the Mulberry & it was super. A four poster bed greeted us lovely colour scheme through out. Along one wall were mirrored doors, to the left...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
