For surroundings but unfortunately, the whole experience was let down by Shambolic Service. We attended a private function with pre ordered dinner. We Were greeted with a glass of fizz served by our hosts After mingling a short time, we were asked to be seated. After sitting At our tables for some time. A member of staff came out with a. tray of canopies. Which should have been served with our meet and greet before we sat at our tables. We then sat and chatted. For an hour. Without any drinks. Not. Even water. After an hour. Staff came round with water. We Eventually got our starter but still drinks Once the starters had been served and we’d already started eating a member of staff came round with wine for the table. We then had to wait almost another hour. for our main course and Although this was a pre booked event our arrival seemed to be a complete surprise for the staff. They were totally unprepared completely shambolic no one took responsibility for organizations It was such a disappointment, as we were guest, we felt we could not complain at the time as we did not want to upset our most generous hosts

Lovely hotel, Staff really helpful and attentive, All interaction with the staff was friendly and positive, Particularly girl on reception with glasses black guy who helped my wife with the suitcases, And lastly the good looking barman with the goaty / beard who's mom was the photographer, Excellent location ample car parking, Well kept beer, Individual rooms ensuite, Some of which have been redecorated, The room we stayed in Maple was tired but completely comfortable with all we needed, We requested a room with a bath and this is what we got, With an excellent shower as well.. This is a listed building so no lift's, Couldn't fault the hotel.

We stayed at this lovely hotel overnight after seeing Ben Fogle at The Alban Arena. It is set in beautiful grounds with a lake. Staff were friendly & attentive. Our room The Hawthorn was very comfortable & spacious & overlooked the gardens & lake. The room had an Oriental theme & the huge bathroom was accessed through the wardrobes ! Lovely luxury toiletries. Very big comfy bed & pillows. Breakfast choice was good with help yourself continental - meats, cheeses, cereals, fruits & pastries, all kinds of bread. We opted for the full St.Michael’s cooked breakfast - which was average. We drove home after breakfast & by the time we arrived we both had diarrhoea which we can only imagine was from the breakfast so that was disappointing. Overall a great stay.

Could be a lovely hotel but feels tired and dated. Shower and bath no hot water first morning and was dealt with whilst we were out for the day but not the best start to our weekend. Bed was large and comfortable in Fir room but shower was dismal - needs updating.

Dear Denise H449 Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent stay. Please know that we take all guest feedback seriously and are committed to addressing your concerns promptly. We are disappointed to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the issues with hot water in the shower and bath on the first morning of your stay. While we are pleased to hear that our team addressed the issue while you were out, we understand that this was not an ideal start to your weekend getaway. Regarding the concerns raised about the Fir bedroom, I would like to clarify that it was fully refurbished just two weeks ago, including the bathroom fittings. It was not the shower itself that caused the inconvenience, but unfortunately, the pump tripped, which took only two minutes to fix the problem. We are actively refurbishing bathrooms, with ten bedrooms already completed, along with progress made on public areas, where fifty per cent has been completed. We appreciate your constructive feedback as it helps us identify areas for improvement and ensure that future guests have a more seamless and enjoyable experience. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a more positive stay in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at St Michael's Manor. The hotel staff are very well trained, very friendly, and we were made to feel very welcome. The hotel is set in lovely grounds, with a pond, gardens, and ample parking. Only 10 minutes walk to the Abbey or the Town Centre, and just round the corner from Verulamium Park. Our room (Lilac) was very spacious, with tasteful furnishings, a nice view, plenty of "high end" teas, coffees, etc, comfortable bed, and spacious bathroom. Downstairs, the bar is very comfortable, and the breakfast room has a wonderful view of the gardens. The breakfast (included with our booking) was REALLY good with a great selection of hot and cold offerings. The staff in the breakfast area was wonderfully attentive and friendly. All in all we felt very well looked after, and will come again.

What a beautiful place! The manor feels like frozen in time with the old world charm coupled with modern amenities. It was a perfect getaway for us for the weekend! The lake was almost frozen in the morning but we still had a lovely walk. The breakfast was absolutely tasty and the view from the restaurant is some of the best you can get in the morning. We will definitely be back to this place.

We will certainly be returning to this fantastic hotel. It was our second time staying there, lovely welcome at reception and they continued to be friendly and helpful during the stay. Rooms on both occasions decorated beautifully and spotless throughout. All staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Forgotten the chef’s name unfortunately, the food was excellent evening meal couldn’t be faulted, breakfasts really good selection hot and cold. While we were there there was a family celebration on we were sat in the bar and the chef and manager brought us both out the most gorgeous curry, full size plate with rice and naan bread, we thought this was a very generous gesture. See you next time we are in St Alabans.

We visited for Sunday lunch and because of traffic problems we didn’t arrive in time for a leisurely pre lunch drink. We explained this and the staff were more than happy to put back our lunch booking and serve two perfectly poured drinks. Lunch was very good on the whole however our bread rolls were rather tough and a little stale. The canapés were a nice touch while we waited for our main course. Our roast beef lunches were excellent although we did have to mention we didn’t have any Yorkshire pudding. The sirloin was perfectly cooked we had crispy roast potatoes and good vegetables including a separate dish of piping hot cauliflower cheese which was delicious. Also it was so nice to get extra gravy. I wish more restaurants did this. It was also very good gravy. We very much enjoyed the poached pear delight and a very generous plate of cheeses with biscuits, celery, quince and homemade apple chutney. The Malbec and Italian red wines were good. We really enjoyed our meal and a walk through the beautiful grounds finished it off nicely.

Absolutely beautiful hotel situated stunning grounds with parking and midday checkout. Clean, spacious room the most comfortable mattress and pillows. Lots of storage and mirrors. Friendly and attentive staff. Especially the bartender on the 27th January who made a fabulous cosmopolitan. We eat in the conservatory restaurant and it was fabulous. Unique flavours and presentation you would see in a Michelin starred restaurant. If I was being really picky the only things I would say would be that the rainfall shower head needs a good deep clean / replacing as half of the head was blocked so my shower wasn’t quite as enjoyable as it could have been with hardly any water coming out. That being said the bathroom was exceptionally clean with high quality hygiene products. I was over the moon to find my favourite all natural shampoo and body wash from Bath House. Breakfast was also delicious with lots nice touches in the buffet section. It was unfortunate that the waiter brought our starter and then our main to the table next to us by mistake. He expressed his apologies to them and not us which was disappointing considering the meal was more expensive than the room itself. Nevertheless I would definitely stay again at this beautiful hotel again in the future.
