I love this hotel. It has all the character of ages gone by, with their lovely sweeping staircase and large rooms. So nice in this day and age. Yes it needs a little tlc, but from chatting to the extremely friendly owner, who, unusually runs it herself, this is all being done. She has just finished the renovations on the...

Great Staff but the hotel needs a refit. The breakfast was good and all the staff from reception to the kitchen and the maids were great. For the city centre the price is ok considering the TLC that needs to be spent on the hotel. The hotel restaurant across the coach way was very good. It should never be done...

Not very clean, shower disgusting. Cheaper than most but that's for a reason. Pay more and go somewhere else. Windows didn't open. The WiFi is terrible, not useable for any length of time, on and off. Would not return

Stayed at the Star for a single night, as I was in Southampton visiting a friend. The lady on the desk when I checked in was very friendly, made me feel very welcome. The hotel is a bit of a maze, my room was up some stairs, then down some stairs, then up a few more stairs, possibly down another...

Basic , clean and tidy bit dated though ! Is lacking some maintenance It has a good sized car park for city centre location and only £4 a night to park Would maybe stay again just due to location and if car park was included for guests could be better

This was the only hotel available in my work budget and there certainly is a reason for that. The hotel is centrally located and the staff very pleasant. The hotel itself is run down and really shabby, the room I had was on the top floor and it was a spacious room and clean. The windows are flimsy which means...

I loved my stay at the Star. Its quaint and querky and a few bits of paint missing here and there but more dedicated hard working staff you wouldn't find anywhere else. Its worth noting that the hotel is still independently owned and managed by Gaie who is very much still hands on and who has resisted the temptation to turn...

I have been staying at Hotels and B&B's all my life. I go away a lot. But I have never stayed in a place that had NO SOAP. Most other places provide not only soap but little sachets or bottles of shampoo/body wash. I asked one of the staff if it was an oversight but they said no it is...

Arrived at this hotel receptionist tried to over charge only my email to confirm price and booking. The room was dirty and had a number of beds and a really filthy leather sofa, the carpet was stained and the thought of us getting into bed gave me the creeps, linen on bed had stains? I never complain, we only needed...

The room was very large but had put you up beds with poor bed linen that was not even ironed. The room looked like a hostel with very scruffy sofas. The only decent part was the bathroom which had obviously been refurbished but it had no mirror. The staff were good, friendly and welcoming except the member if staff serving...
