A very nice hotel. Travel back in time to the Edwardian era! Like most of the seaside hotels in England this is a typical example, dated but loads of charm. The staff are fantastic. Would recommend the place anywhere! The owners need to update the place but keep it as it was! .

I stayed in a family room with my brother for a few days over a weekend. The room was clean with a great view of the Solent. However, there were a few issues. The TV in the room was difficult to operate and it took two visits to Reception, followed by a staff member trying to get it to work....

Had a great Sunday lunch carvery, booked for a table of four, far better than any of us expected! Quite expensive, however, the food was really good, perfectly cooked meats and vegetables. The desserts were also lovely, shared a crumble with hubby which was enough for us and delicious. We shared a bottle or two of the recommended Malbec, good...

We've just returned from having Sunday dinner at this elegant, beautiful hotel. Three choices of meat, tasty veg and fabulous pudding. Nice and relaxed, with jazz playing in the background and very attentive staff. Totally stuffed and a great place to eat. Although we live in Portsmouth, we've never had dinner here (apart from a couple of Christmas parties, which...

The hotel is old from 100 years ago maybe. The area is nice and the sea is a short walk away as is a pedestrian shopping centre. The inside is just old fashioned really and dusty. Go there if you are over pension age and you may like it.

I recently spent my 40th birthday at the Queens hotel with my wife. The good: My wife paid to upgrade the room to a sea view, which was definitely worth it. The bed was large and comfortable. The receptionist was helpful and very professional. Breakfast included in price. The bad: No room service Bar closed at 11, regardless if you...

We booked several rooms for a weekend. Rooms were OK although a bit dated. Breakfast was very good. However, neither of my sons had hot water in their rooms. One son had a luke warm shower and the other couldn't get even warm water. Very disappointing. Hotel response was to let the water run for a while. We could still...

Very tired hotel inside needing large amounts of update. Light bulbs blown, paint chipped, walls a bit grubbing. And bed throws look like something from the sound of music. Shame as could be a stunning hotel.

The exterior of Queen's Hotel is beautiful and the location is great. The interior although appearing clean, has a definite dated look and slightly musty odor. Some old places are dated-looking in a nice way but this is dated in a tired way. The hotel throughout, especially the carpet and the bed coverings, looked clean but from a 1970's style...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. ... more   less
