The Kings Head Hotel garners acclaim for its central location, ideal for guests eager to explore Cirencester and the Cotswolds. Its amenities receive commendation, particularly the attentive service and spotless cleanliness, though some guests feel the prices are steep for the value received.
While the charming atmosphere and comfortable rooms are highlights, there are occasional mentions of maintenance needs. Despite occasional service inconsistencies, many find the hotel's staff friendly and welcoming.

Organised a surprise for mine & my husbands wedding anniversary. I tried to contact the spa by phone on a couple of occasions but didn't manage to get through,I emailed & got a reply straight away. Everything was dealt with & they helped arrange our treatments & answered any questions. We had a 55-minute full body massage & paid extra £15pp for spa access. Was greeted by Karleigh & Cheyenne, who gave us complimentary robes & flip flops. We had our treatments first, then had the whole spa to ourselves. The spa is beautifully done,it's underground, open brick work & soft lighting. After our massage bless the girls because it was our anniversary, they offered us a complimentary drink, but we were happy with fresh cold water after our lovely relaxing full body massage. Parking we used The forum carpark which gives you 3hrs maximum & only a short work from the hotel. Really liked the grapeseed massage oils used during our massage. Thank you for making our anniversary special 💝

Dear Sam S, What a lovely way to celebrate your wedding anniversary and we are so thrilled that it was such a special occasion. Your review will be so helpful to anyone wishing to visit the spa with all its details of the procedures and it was lovely of you to mention the thoughtfulness of Karleigh and Cheyenne who were very pleased to hear that you enjoyed their massages. We do hope that you will make a tradition of coming to the Kings Head Spa to commemorate your anniversary although it does sound as if it has all the ingredients for a date night too! With best wishes, Joanna

One night stay on Saturday eve with bed and breakfast. Very nicely presented, rooms lovely and to high standard. The hotel also own a deli attached with high quality items/wine etc, good friendly staff also. Dining area and bar very nice and again good quality. However… room was very cold, heating clearly was not working as a mobile radiator was in the room. The room was very tastefully decorated and bathroom was high quality. The bedding was clean and bed comfortable but the room was so cold and the quilt was summer tog, we both had to sleep in the dressing gowns provided. ( we both like a cool room but this was too cold) The fridge was well stocked but the prices were extreme, £9.50 for a bag of jelly beans, £4.50 for 1 small bottle of water.. ( which should be basic provision complimentary) and the rest of the items were extremely over priced. We felt that the overall price for 1 nights stay B&B £320 was not proportionate for the overall stay, certainly not matched with similar 4 * rating. We guessed as it was in prime location in centre of Cirencester then occupancy will be guaranteed but there are more affordable quality hotels/ B&Bs in town that would certainly be of better value for money. This is not a criticism of the hotel as we enjoyed our stay but there are certainly some improvements needed to attain a level of quality to deserve a premium price. Added note- breakfast was very good we thought but according to Other guests we spoke to felt that it could be improved. Would return if heating was rectified and price was reduced.

Dear 108carolf, Thank you so much for your appraisal of your recent stay, the contents of which I have discussed with the General Manager, as you raised some interesting points. We were delighted that you liked so much about your room and the public areas, but it must have horrible to have been cold - I have investigated this and there were no reports of cold rooms on the Saturday night and I am unsure what the problem was, and only wish we had known before check out as we would have been able to rectify the situation, and give you both a preferred warm night. The heating in your room does work and radiator was present as some guests prefer this to air coming through the vent. Glad to hear you visited the deli and I will convey your lovely feedback regarding the staff. It was so pleasing that you enjoyed your stay overall and we know what we have to do to encourage a return visit. With best wishes, Joanna

We celebrated our wedding at the Kings Head Hotel at the end of September and it’s been hard trying to put this review together just because of quite how exceptional everything was! The whole experience exceeded every one our expectations by a mile and it was an absolutely perfect day.
Special thanks first of all to Daisy who is nothing short of a dream. She was an absolute superstar throughout the entire process, making sure every detail was just right and helping to keep everything running smoothly on the big day. We knew when we looked around the venue that she was a bit of us, and she more than proved it on the day.
The banqueting team were also incredible. Fun yet professional and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was well taken care of. Nothing seemed too much trouble and their hard work, dedication, and genuine care truly made our wedding experience exceptional. Our guests especially loved how the food was delivered with butterfly service, a really great touch.
The food itself was stunning, with each canape and plate beautifully presented and full of flavour which you don't often get at a wedding! The drinks were also perfectly chilled and the team doing bar service were so attentive and friendly, ensuring drinks were always flowing smoothly.
The venue itself is also just so beautiful! The understated Assembly Room was spot on for our ceremony and meal, and it perfectly contrasted the Vaulted Cellar where we had a proper party into the night. The team had no trouble moving our decorations and such for us to make sure the day flowed beautifully between the spaces too.
The hotel side is just a cherry on top of an already incredible place. Jo and the rest of the front of house team handled our mass descent like absolute pros, ensuring everyone felt so welcome. Plus the bedrooms were spacious and luxurious, with incredibly comfortable beds. Every detail made our special day even more unforgettable. Plus it was such a treat for us and our guests to stay and not have to worry about travelling on the day.
Every day we talk about our wedding as we just had the most perfect day. We can’t recommend Daisy and the Kings Head enough! Book and I guarantee you will have your dream wedding.

We stopped at the Kings Head for 1 night this summer and whilst we got a great deal on Secret Escapes, had I have paid the full price I would have been extremely disappointed. Even with the deal rate sadly there were things that let our stay down. I should say we were on the cusp of paying full price as we had been eying up the hotel for a few weeks and it was coincidence that the deal was available.
Room - Firstly the room we booked which was a ‘feature room’ felt a little tired (scuffs on walls, dodgy paintwork over plastering, ironing board on show behind chair, some marks on upholstery) and didn’t really match up to the look and feel portrayed on the SE booking. Once in the room, I noticed several small carpet or clothes moths which I swatted. Fair enough I thought, old hotel with features, no biggie. However after the 17th moth swat and more to be seen, I decided this wasn’t somewhere we wanted to sleep. The hotel did provide another room and whilst not the level of the previous, rather than wait longer to get settled we accepted the alternative. The view in the new room was of building works (starting at 8am) and service yard, so not the most attractive but we were just happy to have a room minus the moths, the bathroom did smell a bit like drains though.
Brasserie - As part of our deal we received £50 F&B credit so chose to eat in the Brasserie. We had tried to change our pre booked time a few days before, but the message was only picked up the day of our stay so we had to remain with the later booking. At the stage of ordering we were told that they had run out of two items (the ones we wanted) so therefore making the Table d'hôte menu redundant to us. We therefore opted for the main menu, in the most part the food standard was ok, however I was confused that I was presented with penne pasta rather than rigatoni as stated on the menu, it was also overdone. This dish was £29 and therefore I feel that the price point of the brasserie was high for the execution and flavour. A small point but they also couldn’t offer any lager on draft despite this being on the menu. Also, for the duration of our meal we sat next to a large messy table that had not been cleared since the previous guests departure prior to our arrival. The table to our right following suit after the guests departed. We were thankful for the credit as it made the bill more palatable.
Breakfast - This was also lacking somewhat, the orange juice tasted similar to a berocca, certainly not fresh juice. The avocado on toast was small, ok but rather average.
I hate to leave bad reviews and work in hospitality myself so don’t take it lightly. The surroundings are lovely and there is potential however having stayed at many other establishments in the area and as repeat visitors to the Cotswolds this one just didn’t hit the mark, and had I have paid the full whack I would feel very shortchanged.
I can see that many have enjoyed their stays so perhaps we had a series of bad luck but it wouldn’t be a hotel we return to.

Dear WanderlusterofLDN, Thank you for taking the time to send such considered feedback on your recent stay and please accept my apologies for my tardy response. It was very disappointing to hear your observations of your room and we are sorry that you did not feel it lived up to your expectations. The moth situation has now been resolved, thank goodness, and we very much regret that you had this experience. There is an ongoing maintenance scheme in place to repaint some rooms, as suitcases are constantly causing scuffs which are not possible to remove any other way, it seems. Ironing boards are unsightly, as you intimate, and we do try and place these in wardrobes where possible - I am sorry yours was visible; we have considered removing them altogether and having them 'on request' only, so we may re-consider this option. I am pleased that we were able to offer an alternative room, albeit with a less inspiring view; we enjoy a fabulous location in town but it is simply not possible for all guests to have front-facing rooms. It is such a shame that you did not have a better experience at dinner. It is very deflating when one's first choice is not available- it happens in any restaurant- but it is reassuring to hear the staff did follow protocol and advise you when you were handed the menu at least; we regret that the other offerings on the Table d'hote menu were not appealing, as there are more than two options. Your other observations have been discussed with the team there as we agree that it is quite unpleasant to be seated next to a messy table; thank you for relaying this to us. It is absolutely the prerogative of any guest to leave a review and we welcome feedback. It would be lovely if it was always positive (!) but we do take on board all criticism and follow up on every comment. I am only sorry that we did not have the opportunity to restore your faith in us during your stay as we would have done our absolute utmost to turn things around. Alternatively, this could have been resolved more favourably had you contacted us directly as, working in hospitality, you are aware of how damaging poor reviews can be. Thank goodness they are in the minority, as can be seen by anyone reading through the reviews before and after yours. With best wishes, Joanna

Just got back from the most relaxing stay at the Kings Head Hotel. From the moment we walked through the main doors of the hotel until we departed we felt at total ease, each member of staff was so tentative and welcoming, never experienced anything like this. The room oozed character with the exposed beams, I knew we'd made the right decision to pay for the upgraded room, worth every penny! We dined in the MBB Brasserie which was an absolute delight. We had the TDH Menu as we'd booked on the January offer which was a bargain at £199. I wasn't sure on the dinner options for me personally but I went with something I wouldn't normally order and wow I'm so pleased I did, best meal we've had out in a long time. As for the Spa, so full of features and lovely warming intimate place to relax. Thank you to the team at the Kings Head Hotel, we've come away a very happy well relaxed couple xx

We met up with a very old friend in Cirencester on friday night, unfortunately our first three choices of venue were all full (we foolishly had not booked) we decided a little reluctantly to go to the Kings Head, it had plenty of capacity, we have had numerous experiences of dreadful service that we generally avoid, we are rgulars at the comedy night, and often feel it would be quicker to visit neighbouring establishments to get served. Anyway on Friday I waited at the bar to be served, there were two people behind the bar, one preparing drinks for a wedding group and the other was serving a chap next to where I was stood, when he finished serving him he went and emptied and refilled the dish washing machine and then tidied the shelves, completely ignoring me. After a while we all walked out. Had a lovely evening at Henry's (now my first choice in Cirencester). Now, I apreciate that dishes have to be done, and that shelves need tidying, but customers should always come first and the reason I was reluctant to go in the first place was because exactly the same thing happened last time we went there and again we had little choice but to walk out. As an asside we also walked out a few years ago when we had booked it for our company Christmas dinner, after nearly an hour of zero service our table of 12 walked out. I like to think we are considerate and patient customers, but the service at the Kings Head is truly dreadful.

Dear garylA6933ET, What a shocking review to receive and we are so disappointed that you had this experience on Friday night, especially that it was not the first time. While staff have of course come and gone in that time, we accept that the level of service should be maintained regardless and are devastated that you have been left with such a poor impression of our service, as we pride ourselves on doing better than that . We will naturally be pursuing the matter internally as your account of your visit is crushing to us all. If you would be inclined, I would be very happy to pursue this directly with you and my email address is guestrelations@kingshead-hotel.co.uk. With best wishes, Joanna

We've just got back from a 2 night stay. We were gifted a virgin voucher and this hotel was one of the options. We chose here as it looked the nicest hotel out of all the options. We also liked that it was dog friendly. Upon arrival we were very impressed check was easy, room was really nice, clean and spacious. We had to pay extra to upgrade as the room type included with our voucher was fully booked this was £20 extra per night i think. We also paid £25 per night extra for the dog. They supplied a cute dog bed and some treats, although our dog is fussy and wouldn't eat them it was a lovely thought. Breakfast was included, buffet with mix of hot and cold. Good selection and quality. Both mornings we booked at the last time slot though and especially on the Monday there wasn't a lot left or it had been sat for a while. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and Cirencester itself. My only negative comment is that maybe its not big dog friendly. We have a large labrador who likes to get muddy and wet. It would have been good to have some dog towels and an area to hose him off. Also both times we went for breakfast the dog areas in the brasserie is small so he was in the way of everyone and the next morning they seated us in the main grill restaurant only to then be told half way through our breakfast dogs aren't allowed. it was on our booking and my husband told them i would be joining with a dog. If you are going to take your dog another thing to note is that the closest grassy area to toilet is behind the church opposite. its a short walk our boy was fine with having to cross his legs until we got there. It's a lovely park our boy loved it and met some very friendly dogs. Overall we/he had a great weekend, everyone made a fuss of him everywhere we went.

Dear CharlotteR780, Thank you for posting such a lovely and comprehensive review; we are delighted that you (and your dog!) had such an enjoyable stay, and that he was admired everywhere you went in very dog-friendly Cirencester. We were interested to read your comments regarding more consideration for guests with dogs. It would definitely be a good idea for us to invest in some 'dog' towels (rather than using the fluffy white ones in the rooms!) which we can easily arrange, and perhaps keep one at Reception so it can be used on return from a wet walk, but regrettably, I am not sure how we would arrange for an area to hose off a dog - certainly food for thought though, thank you. We were pleased that you felt the breakfast offered a good selection of quality hot and cold choices but disappointed to read your feedback when you arrived at your chosen time slot. We do try to maintain the buffet throughout, right up to the end of service so we are sorry that this was not your experience. Having said that, the breakfast team would always provide/cook anything that was short, if requested. It must have been a little annoying to have to move tables when you ate in the main restaurant on Monday morning and I regret that the fact you had a dog with you was overlooked; this has been followed up internally in order that it does not happen again. We do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back sometime in the future. With best wishes, Joanna

Stayed for 3 nights over the New Year with friends and really had a lovely relaxing break. Room was spacious, comfortable, clean and large. Did hear a bit of noise from guests in adjacent rooms who were a bit loud at times. Breakfast was very good, nice choice & decent quality. The dinner we had in the Brassierie was very good & highly recommended. Stayed for New Year’s Eve, really enjoyed the dinner and the evening. All of the staff were without exception friendly and helpful. Parked at Waterloo car park, just a 5 min walk and it’s fairly reasonable at around £8 for a day and 6pm to 8am is free.

We spent a long weekend here with a large group of friends and family for our wedding. Our welcome on arrival was lovely, welcoming and warm. A couple of ladies greeted us on reception, helped us with all our luggage and offered us a welcome drink, really pleasant.
Dinner: We had a group of 20 for dinner at the hotel in the evening which was utterly disastrous. It took 1.5 hours for us all to get a drink - we went to the bar numerous times asking what on earth was taking so long, there was hardly any other guests there so to this day I haven't a clue!! Food wasn't good even when it did arrive, half of it was cold, the dessert was still frozen - and then told they wouldn't take money off as "we ate most of it". One waitress, Molly, was truly doing her utmost - she was the shining star of the evening, unfortunately she can't do it alone... The bar staff were completely incompetent. After an hour we were all so thirsty we were begging for water!! Not worth the money.
Room: The room itself was lovely. It is beautiful, comfortable, and clean. Elemis toiletries, tea and coffee, a fridge and nice white robes. The food to buy in the room was rather extortionate - something like £10 for jelly beans. Only one small bottle of still water, which we used up on the first day and wasn't replaced? Again found ourselves desperate for water!!
Breakfast: Fabulous selection, smoked salmon in particular was great. Good variety of pastries, cereals, fruit, and food to order from the menu - although our order was forgotten and re ordered half hour later, avocado smash is just one slice of toast with half an avocado so don't get too excited. Water jugs frequently empty so had to chase for more... Again the waiters in the breakfast restaurant are similar to the bar staff, they ignore dirty cups/plates on the table, don't check in, don't ask if you want tea etc - you have to grab them if you need something.
In short, I'd stay here again as the rooms were lovely, I just certainly would not eat or drink here until they hire new staff. I'll never get over waiting 1.5 hour for a drink the eve of our wedding.... Oh, and take your own water, seems to be a shortage in this hotel!!

It's not easy to find so we asked a traffic warden. From the hotel's front entrance turn right along Market Place, first right into North Way, then first right again (still North Way) then right again that brings you behind the hotel. The garage looks a bit like an old barn and probably used for horses when it was a coaching inn.

We did not use the hotel garage as parking.g was very limited there. There are pay and display car parks within easy walking distance and you can use the drop off area at the front of the hotel.
There are more places to choose from in the Cirencester area.
