I stayed here one night with my daughter during a road trip through the Cotswolds. The B&B has been extensively refurbished to a high quality and offered spacious, comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms that included generous toiletries and plenty of fresh towels.
Our room had twin single beds that were comfortable though the single size duvets barely covered us so you had to be careful not to move too much in the night.
The location is probably a touch too far from the town centre to walk (the weather wasn’t great when we were there) but there is a large car park if you wanted to drive in.
Kathleen was an outstanding host who presented a superb breakfast with lots of choice even asking if we wanted to take fruit for our remaining journey.
The Cotswold Hare is a fabulous B&B to use as a base while exploring.

We decided to have a short summer break in Cirencester and booked a three night stay at the Cotswold Hare on the strength of other reviews.

I have to say we were very impressed with almost everything about this guest house, near to the town centre. The furnishings, the standard of fixtures and fittings, and the attention to detail is second to none. We also found the proprietor, Kathleen, to be friendly and helpful, and she seemed very knowledgeable, offering helpful advice about local facilities and attractions.

The entire property is finished to a very high standard, and easily surpasses the quality of most other hotels and guest houses that we have stayed in, including many commercial hotels, irrespective of the price paid. The bed was large and comfortable, and the shower room was truly spacious, virtually eliminating the usual 'misting' problems of the large mirror.

The property itself is about 10 minutes walk from the town centre, and an off-road parking space is provided on site for every room, which means there is no competition for parking spaces. This also means that for an able bodied couple/family you can abandon the car and walk into the town for a drink with your meal if so desired (which was one of our main criteria).

One minor consideration here is, parking at the rear is via quite a narrow access driveway, but we have a KIA Niro which is 1,805mm wide (that's a fraction over 1.8 metres), and we got down there without any problem. We also saw larger looking cars there too. However, there are also parking spaces at the front, so it shouldn't really be a problem unless you have a very big vehicle.

Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, and our room had a smart TV, as I believe is standard across the establishment (although I suggest you check in advance if this is a necessity for you). That meant that we could log-in and watch Netflix in the evening after a walk into town for a meal.

NB: If you do the same, don't forget to log the TV out of Netflix before you leave, or you may find other guests using your account after you have left 🤔.

Regrettably, no cooked breakfast is available, as the proprietors don't like the idea of cooking smells wafting throughout the premises, but a Continental breakfast was included in the price. This offers a range of options that should suit most people, including tea/coffee, orange juice, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, croissants, toast, jams & marmalade, etc. Sadly, no apple or cranberry juice was available, nor any selection of meats, cheeses (other than Baby Bel), pastries, etc. I would assume this would be to eliminate wastage, but that which was provided was quite sufficient.

Personally, I usually prefer a cooked breakfast, but in truth the continental option was satisfactory, and the quality of everything else far outweighs that minor drawback. If you should want a Full English Breakfast, there are plenty of places in the town that can provide that for you.

There is also a communal fridge in the breakfast room if you want to store cold drinks, and complementary bottles of water were provided on our arrival.

Our room was on the ground floor (as are several others), and the guest access is wheelchair friendly, so that could be a big bonus for some people too.

There is also plenty of information about places to eat, nearby attractions, and places to visit.

There are no evening meal facilities at the guest house itself, but the town is so close and there are so many different pubs and restaurants to choose from, offering a wide and diverse choice of foods (Pub Grub, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Italian, French, etc. etc.) that there should be something to suit every taste. We can recommend the Sultan Indian Restaurant on Dyer Street, and The Black Horse on Castle Street, for both quality and value.

Hint: Probably best to book in advance for weekend meals though, wherever you decide to go. We failed to get a table at Burrito Mama on a Thursday at 7:30pm (but the place is quite small).

All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Cotswold Hare and if/when we visit Cirencester again, this guest house will be top of our list of places to stay.

A fantastic venue for a local Family wedding nearby. Kathleen and her staff are excellent hosts. There is even complimentary entertainment if the form of, 'singing.' An in-joke :) Kathleen is very knowledgeable of the local area, attentive during breakfast, and interested in her guests and why they are staying in the area. The B&B provides a raft of information on the local area and what to do. Kathleen made us all feel very welcome. The B&B was refurbished and upgraded just before Covid so it is bright fresh, vibrant inviting, and spotlessly clean. We booked five rooms for seven people and all rooms were excellent. All have TV's with plenty of channels, although not Sky. But why would you be watching Sky if you are staying in Cirencester? Big comfortable beds in nicely furnished rooms with wardrobe and drawer space that was more than enough for our two-night stay. Rooms come with a range of en-suite facilities of either shower only or shower over a bath. Our shower was piping hot and powerful, our first room requirement wherever we stay. All rooms are supplied with a kettle, tea, coffee, milk, and shortbread biscuits. There is also a complimentary bottle of water that can be refilled from a water dispenser in the breakfast room. Breakfast is continental encompassing a choice of teas or coffee then cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, toast, and croissants with a copious supply of jams and butter, There is a small conservatory that provides a relaxing seating area for reading if maybe the weather is inclement. Cotswold Hare is situated only a short walk from the Town Centre and fifteen minutes' drive from villages such as Barnsley and Bibury. If we stayed in Cirencester again and did not use a hotel, well costs are rising, we would most certainly stay with Kathleen again. We paid on average £250.00 per room for two nights but you can see the rates on the website.

The facilities are excellent with a lovely continental breakfast and very helpful friendly service.

The entrance to the car park is pretty narrow through OK for my medium sized car. It took me a while to find the shower safety mat tucked away under the sink, so be assured that there is one and you just need to look around for it. My room had slatted shutters which get the room pretty dark but not full black out.

I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again on my own but the lack of full black out would be a deal breaker for my husband.

We had a lovely two nights in this delightful B&B. Rooms were spacious and spotless. The continental breakfast was perfect with plenty of choice. The B&B is located on a pleasant and quiet street which is about a 10min pleasant walk into Cirencester centre. Kathleen and her team are perfect hosts and we would absolutely recommend this gem of a place.

What a great place to stay! Kathleen and her team run a fantastic guest house, it is the cleanest place we’ve stayed at, it’s spotless!
Super comfortable bed in a room over looking the road, it was so quiet and with tight closing shutters as well you will sleep for hours. The breakfast was only continental but plentiful and tasty.
The location is great for a walk into town, flat and only 10 mins to the central shops and attractions of Cirencester. There’s a lot to see and do with so many independent shops and some lovely places to eat. It’s also very convenient for many of the Cotswold attractions both old and new - Jeremy Clarkson’s pub The Farmers Dog is only half an hour away and well worth a visit.
Kathleen was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us many suggestions for places to eat - we went to Amore Mio on the first night and then returned later in our break. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the Cotswolds for a few days or longer, support a smaller independent business and stay at the hare - it can’t be beaten!

An amazing place to stay! The owner, Kathleen, and her staff are so helpful and kind focused on making your stay the best.

The quality of the building and the rooms is fabulous, furnished to a high standard.

The location of the the Cotswold Hare could not be better, a short 5 minute walk to the centre of Cirencester.

I would in hesitate to recommend this as the perfect base to explore Cirencester and indeed the wider Cotswold area.

Fabulous stay last night, really great room and the most comfortable bed & pillows. I travel a lot for work but this was one of the best breakfasts with really quality products. The whole place has obviously been subjected to a recent refurb with high quality finishes. En-suite shower had good shower which was nice and hot. Bathroom products supplied were a nice touch and demonstrates great attention to detail. Kathleen made us feel very welcome & has made our short stay one of the best. Great location too for exploring Cirencester.

Our second trip to Cirencester and the Cotswold Hare. Everything was perfect and owner Kathleen took care of our changing circumstances when we were joined by extra family unexpectedly. From the entrance, to the guest rooms, and the breakfast room, everything is beautifully appointed and the attention to detail is impressive. The location is ideal for a short walk into the market square and town center as well as touring the ridiculously picturesque villages nearby.

The host, Kathleen, is wonderful and has seen to all the important details with the rooms and the layout. Parking is a bit limited; though I was there mid-week, so not a problem, I'm sure it was different with the Bank Holiday weekend that followed. The room was spacious, quiet (though it was on the street side of the house), and well appointed. As the temperature (in August) had dropped a bit, Kathleen very graciously turned the boiler on so that I could warm up my room -- great touch. The breakfast was very nice: fresh fruit, juice, etc.; and Kathleen's assistant was great. Breakfast was on the lighter side, which I appreciate when traveling (the last thing I want is a heavy morning meal). Overall, when I next return to Cirencester, I will definitely look to stay at the Cotswold Hare.
