Booked this last minute with my bf. The room was very lifeless, and uncared for.. not that you come to hotel to watch the TV, but it didn't work! The tea and coffee facilities were unclean... sugar was hard and stuck in the jar. Unfortunately we didn't make it to breakfast but is apparently a '2 minute walk' to another...

Stayed in the triple room in the basement. It was ok bearing in mind we were only there between 3-9am. Clearly needs some TLC, but would need huge investment to make it inviting. Staff nice, good breakfast in separate hotel. Price ok for a Friday in December.

We stayed here on New Year's Eve and paid around £100 for a double room with breakfast for 2 which was very good value in comparison to other hotels on that night. The hotel is fine if you want a clean comfortable stay for one night, especially if you are having a night out, I wouldn't recommend for longer stays....

we had a family room for the night at the top of the property. nice views and can just about see the sea which was nice too. room comfortable especially the bed. Breakfast in their sister hotel 2 mins walk away which was very plentiful and lots of choice. you can see that this property has been kept much nicer...

Positives: Clean beds and breakfast at associated hotel nearby excellent. Negatives: While clean the place appears tired and uncared for, scruffy in fact. If all you want is a bed for the night, a shower and tea making facilities it is ok.If you want something special pay more and go elsewhere. If you stsy us a long one, so somewhere...

A good, basic guest house in a perfect location for anyone wanting to visit Brighton. Only a short walk away from both the seafront and centre of Brighton. We stayed on New Year's Eve and for the cost of the one night stay, I really can't complain. The guest house itself is a little outdated and could do with being...

I stayed the night in room 1, a twin room for the night. The people running the place were rude and not helpful. Felt as if they didn't care or have enough time to give us directions to their breakfast which was in a different hotel. Although the room was clean, you could hear everyone as they went up and...

Really poorly maintained guest house. The standard of cleanliness is appalling with large cobwebs everywhere, carpets not vacuumed. The general maintenance is also lacking with light fittings missing, loose taps. The decor was so old and not been touched in years. There was visible damp and mould on the walls and in the bathroom and it smelt damp. There are...

very basic hotel, had no problems at all fresh towels, 100% perfect for location to shops/nightlife and sea. Car parking £20 in car park 5 mins away and brekkie at a hotel close by. Choices for everyone. Would return :-)

The Russell was generally acceptable on cleanliness - bedsheets were clean, the towels were in the main ok but the one I used for showering (more about that below) did smell musty and unclean and there was a general stale cigarette smell in the room at times, we thought this was maybe coming from ventilaton somehow? The shower curtain was...
