Spent a night here for our anniversary. Had a wonderful view of the sea. The bathroom is spacious and spotless, which are always a plus. Staff was nice and accommodating. The hotel's breakfast was decent. We will definitely book again for another staycation.
We were only in for one night, but the hotel was welcoming, warm and lovely. The room was clean and great, perfect for the four of us. The breakfasts were a sweet addition, us leaving before it was actually served, so we had a goody bag and coffee for the road. Great place in Brighton, easy to get to and park at! We will be back!
We arrived at the hotel early and as our room wasn’t ready yet we left our bags and went out for the day. We were told that they had our booking and our room was nearly ready. On returning to check in we were told that they couldn’t find our room and there was no booking in our name. After a while they said they found the booking and hadn’t been able to find it as we had already checked in. We hadn’t. They then produced the paperwork to prove this and gave us all the details (name, address and telephone number) of another customer. When we said this wasn’t us they look at us as though we were mad! Somebody else then came to take over the booking in and said there was no room but would go and investigate. He disappeared for 20 minutes and on his return said he had found the room and needed my credit card ending in numbers ****. I said I didn’t have a card ending in those numbers and phoned my friend that had checked in earlier on a separate booking and she said these were her card details! He then told me that she must be in my room (as though it was her fault). I asked her this but she wasn’t in a sea view room and he even disputed this. I think she is clever enough to know whether or not she can see the sea. The investigation continued and he then said he had a room which wasn’t a sea view. We agreed as by now we were so fed up, tired and cold (it had been raining all day and we were drenched). When he gave us the paperwork it was in my friend’s name and again he gave me all her details. We told him this wasn’t us and he said it was the only way he could do it. Enough was enough and we went to another hotel. Although they said sorry there was no trying to make up for the fact that we had spent over half an hour standing there no knowing whether or not we had a room. Even if they had offered us a drink at the bar while they tried to sort it out, it would have been something. While all this was going on I found out later that they phoned the room that we were meant to be staying in. They told the couple in there that they were in the wrong room and ask them who they were! A complete shambles. They had no idea what they were doing. A group of us had booked so that we could all stay together and that was ruined. I definitely would not recommend this hotel.
The room was definitely no clean enough, the shower curtain was disgusting. Note in the bathroom asking us to reuse our towels so help save the environment, but despite this the drinking glasses in the bathroom were plastic - and each glass was individually plastic wrapped as well. No shampoo in the shower. Windows of the room were so filthy that we couldn't see out of them. I have no idea if we had ocean view or not. Lift was tiny and extremely slow. Just one lift for the whole hotel (100+ rooms) that is also used by cleaning staff. When trying to use the staircase I just got lost, it's like a maze. Breakfast was very poor. Very few selections, if you wanted bread you only had butter and jam to choose from. No ham, no vegetables, not even cheese! One morning I ordered the "fresh fruit salad" and it was not particularly fresh. The strawberries had clearly been frozen and then thawed. The positive: Good location and low price.
This is the 4th or 5th time we have stayed at this hotel in Brighton. We stayed from Thurs to Sat this wk. We were there to see Kevin Bridges at the Dome (he was great 👏🏻👏🏻)
We book direct now as they have a loyalty scheme and they will always try to beat online prices ...
They gave us a sea view room. It was really windy and very raining at times which made watching the sea amazing ... blazing sunshine on the Friday all day ... go figure 🤷🏻♂️
The Kings hotel is close enough to walk to the Lanes, the staff are always helpful, and the manager made time to speak with us. (Scottish) John was as always a pleasure to chat with at (the very generous and tasteful) breakfast as he walked around serving customers ...
The small bar and comfortable seating area are also a welcome stop after a stroll outside ..
We found ‘ye old tea shop’ in the Lanes. Had a great cream tea for a sensible price .. £6 each ...
We have stayed at well over 20 properties in Brighton. There is something about the Kings Hotel which makes us come back !!!
