Having read some other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. First view of the outside was mixed. Old but a bit tired looking. Inside was much better. The room was excellent, in particular the bathroom. The bar meals and drinks were very good but a bit pricey. All the staff were very welcoming but professional. We went to a...

The hotel is fairly priced. We stayed as a party of ten and so experienced a range of rooms, with variation in size and decor. Rooms were clean, generally spacious and well-serviced; wifi connection was excellent. We took breakfast on three mornings, with a range of cooked food: all was excellent as was the friendly, attentive and effective service (including...

Stayed here for three nights, in a group of ten of us. A grand old hotel, with a lot of history, understandably it's in need of some tlc in places. Don't let this put you off. The rooms (for the price) are adequate, the staff are excellent (very friendly, and can't do enough for you) Breakfast is very good and...

The hotel staff could not have been more helpful, the building itself was very grand. The room had plenty of space but could do with modernising, the wall paper was overwhelming along with matching blinds and lamp shades. Not the fault of anyone but the room was so hot, the heating was on full when we arrived, with the sun...

Thank you Diane W for your review. I'm sorry that you found your room to be too warm. We do try to refurbish our rooms in keeping with the Victorian grandeur of the hotel. I'm sorry that this is not to your taste. I do hope that despite this we can welcome you back to the hotel soon. Kind regards,...

Good hotel - it's nice to stay in a hotel with character and heart. I was pleased that my room was large and had both a bath and decent sized shower. Very close to the seafront, although a bit of a way to the Royal William Yard where a lot of the new bars and restaurants are (I took a...

Thank you for your review. I'm pleased you found the hotel to be suitable for your needs. Sorry if you found it to be too warm. Hotel is full of contradictions. Beautiful exterior. Impressive front lobby. Very grand old central staircase. Impressive breakfast room with views. However, I would probably not return for two reasons: (1) the heavy stale smell that I found overwhelming when entering the building from the car park. This is the area where a floor of rooms are located (including mine) And...

Dear S M Thank you for your review. I'm very sorry that you didn't like the smell of the hotel. This is an usual remark, although obviously important to your requirements. I'm not sure we have 'old, very tired' rooms. We do have individuality, style and a grand Victorian legacy to maintain, something which hold very dear. I am pleased...

Oh dear. Had asked for a quiet room on booking, to be loacated next to the lift, not a good start. When checking the VERY small double room, found sheets to be stained. After contacting reception, housekeeping arrived. Gentleman spent a while inspecting the sheet, eventually removing and advising with a sigh would change it! No apology or any thing....

Dear 889tracy44 Thank you for leaving a review. I'm not sure I fully understand your comments. Firstly we have never offered rooms now or in the past with a mini bar or fridge? Secondly we have 73 bedrooms not 500? Our car park is limited although it is free for our guests, unlike many city centre hotels which charge for...
