We spent two nights here, amazing little hotel. Very homely feel. Hotel staff make you feel extremely welcome. Food was lovely. dined in on the first night. Centrally located near the cathedral and main shopping area. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.

Beautiful hotel with very individual rooms. Staff are very young but so friendly and helpful. Originally a Georgian mansion so no lift. Parking is difficult during working hours but fine overnight. Ideal base if you exploring South Devon.

The hotel is centrally-located in the smart business area of Exeter, a short walk from the Cathedral. Ideal for short stays, or indeed longer, Exeter is a beautiful city and there is plenty to see and do within walking distance of Southernhay House. On arrival, you can easily park outside (from 6pm to 8am without charge), but only for one... More

Thank you for your review and, once again, can I offer sincere apologies for our mistake on your check in. Noga was mortified about the error and went to lengths to ensure your stay was otherwise perfect - in which I'm pleased to note she was successful. When you next book, please do mention it to Noga and she will... More

We loved this hotel. Peaceful, understated elegance and central to shopping and cathedral green. It is situated in Southernhay gardens in Exeter right next to a small park. When we stayed there was a food and drink fiesta in the park that apparently happens every last Friday in the month, it was an added bonus and had to be visited.... More

Thank you for your lovely review Julie - it's nice to hear that our guests enjoy some of the more unusual offerings of this lovely city and the street food market on the last Friday of each month is one of them! There's so much to enjoy here - please just ask our staff about any current events or pop... More

I am very sad to write this review. There is much about the hotel that is lovely. The room was nice, the staff were very pleasant and the bar is great fun. I recommend the hotel happily for week days. But the primary requirement of a hotel is to be able to sleep. We stayed on a Saturday night and... More

No, I quite understand your comments and it is true that, since the nearby office buildings were converted (rather expediently) into buy-to-let accommodation we have had teething issues with the students. We have now put both Exeter Uni Student Advisory and Environmental Health on a watch and the weekend parties have abated (I think the work has finally kicked in).... More

I have just returned from a one night stay at this hotel with my fiancée. I booked us a one night stay through booking.com and got a good deal, however I decided to contact the hotel and upgrade the room as a surprise. It was so simple and in 2 emails this was completed and acknowledged. We turned up as... More

Thank you for your particularly nice review and for taking the trouble to post. It was our pleasure to welcome you both here - and I hope it won't be the last time, since you obviously "get" what we are about and appreciate the difference between an original and a chain offering. I shall pass your comments, especially, onto Elens,... More

This hotel is modern in its facilities yet maintains the charm of the building in which it is situated. It's location is excellent being near the cathedral and main shopping area. The additional charges, such as breakfast and drinks, are expensive (breakfast was £17.50 a head). Nevertheless, this hotel is well worth a visit.

Hi Simon, thank you for your kind review which is appreciated. It sounds as though you were on a Room Only rate for the accommodation - do ask us next time for our best available rate (which is very reasonable when breakfast is included). I hope that we will have the chance to welcome you back soon. More

Don't contribute on here too often but feel I have to after my visit to the wonderful Southernhay House Hotel in Exeter. The hotel was lovely and the rooms and food were very good. Hi Goosie, I'm sorry you felt your possessions at all vulnerable during your stay. I think you'll find that the disclaimer you refer to is very standard hotel practice (required by our insurers) and we have a safe, in our private office, which guests are welcome to - and do - use. However, this is not a high security risk... More
