Idle Rocks - I like it: overlooking St Mawes harbour and with views out to sea, it feeds the soul. Bedrooms are good - well thought out, comfortable, fresh; nice towels, linen, carpets, walls etc. There are comfortable places to sit and have a coffee or a pot of tea if there's something wrong with you, or a glass of...

The most lovely hotel with only 20 rooms which enables the staff to concentrate on making their guests feels totally at home. The ambiance was lovely and we relaxed the minute we entered from the cold, wet and windy outdoors into a beautiful room and given tea in front of the fireplace. Felt like we were on a ship as...

Went to St Mawes by boat from Falmouth fab sunny day not sure what to expect. It is a beautiful Cornish village full of charm and places to explore. My son loved exploring all the rock pools, mum & dad loved The Idle Rocks sitting outside overlooking the harbour enjoying a super lunch with a chilled bottle of wine. I...

Spent two glorious nights at this hotel as a treat. The only thing I could fault was the weather, but even that seemed better whilst watching it from the lounge. The staff were friendly and helpful, everything about the hotel, wonderful. I loved the décor, the food was great. We were given a free room upgrade as it was quiet....

This hotel is outstanding on many levels: the staff, the food, the décor, the rooms and the position, which is staggeringly beautiful. Firstly, the staff: there is a happy, cheerful and attentive atmosphere created by a great team spirit. We felt more like house guests among friends than just customers. We left feeling we had made friends and this makes...

We spotted the Idle Rocks when we were in St Mawes for a summer holiday and decided to go back to stay in the hotel as it looked so idyllic situated on the harbour. The welcome on arrival was impeccable, a pot of tea in the lounge overlooking the harbour whilst our bags were taken upstairs and the car parked....

There are hotels, and then there are hotels. The Idle Rocks is one of the latter. This was a romantic break away from London, and my planned arrival via ferry from Falmouth was abandoned as a plan due to the weather, that even Charlie on reception could not do anything about for. It was the last thing he failed at....

We decided to head to Cornwall at the last minute for a short break, looking for complete rest and relaxation and wow! how lucky we were to have found Idle Rocks! What a beautiful location, with the water gently lapping against the building, a friendly but professional welcome, stunning location, gorgeous view from our room (room 3), stunning hotel interiors,...

We had a fabulous lunch here, amazing views, wonderful service, impeccably clean and luxurious furnishings. It is a little pricey but you get what yo pay for. Our eldest daughter is coeliac and was catered for perfectly. We are now in talks with grandparents, my husband and I could really kick back and spend a weekend here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. Our 19 bedrooms, most with stunning vistas over the bay, have been thoughtfully designed, each having their own unique identity with fabulous fabrics and decor that leave you in no doubt that you are by the sea. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock's restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed. ... more   less
