As you walk in you are greeted and made welcome. Due to a change of plans we arrived after a long walk, so not really dressed for fine dining! Not that it made any difference. Pre dinner drinks sitting outside overlooking the harbour is wonderful. The dining room is cleverly set out so you have the views even if your...

Well worth a visit. From attention on arrival and throughout the day - excellent. Room decor, restaurant service and food quality to a very high standard. Location on the harbourside and views need to be experienced. Will certainly revisit.

We stayed in the Idle Rocks with our 10 month old baby and everything was done to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. Brilliant decor, food, service and atmosphere. Restaurant is highly recommended - especially loved the muscovado tart. Breakfast was brilliant and nice and healthy! We loved our harbour view room, the standard was excellent and bathrooms done to...

We had a weekend here of being spoilt, a beautiful room overlooking the harbour, great attentive friendly staff and delicious food. It really was a lovely weekend away, we were looked after so well and I would love to return again soon.

By far the most fabulous place to visit. Went for our anniversary and it was a great experience. Place is lovely, staff can't do enough for you and the food was incredible. Cost a lot but expected it to and it was worth every penny.

My boyfriend and I had a last minute week here in March. What an amazing find. We loved everything about it - our names chalked on the door, the location of the hotel, the bedrooms and the views from them, the food and the general calmness of the place. All outstanding. The staff could not have been more helpful and...

Quietly understated luxury. Breakfasts a particular pleasure. Lovely bathrooms (though lacking a shaving/make-up mirror) but with great shower. The outside terrace in the late afternoon is to die for. St Mawes is a class act and The Idle Rocks seems to me to have displaced The Tresanton.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. Our 19 bedrooms, most with stunning vistas over the bay, have been thoughtfully designed, each having their own unique identity with fabulous fabrics and decor that leave you in no doubt that you are by the sea. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock's restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed. ... more   less
