This holiday was booked on one of Shearings coach holidays. The hotel is in a lovely position right on the quay side.A very friendly comfortable hotel with excellent food. The weather was reasonable for the time of the year a few showers but nothing to spoil the outings. On Tuesday morning a very enjoyable trip along the River Fal landing...

Booked a last minute coach trip with Shearings(due to another companies cancellation). to St Mawes. Its a long way but totally worth it. The hotel we booked was The Ship & Castle. It is situated right on the quayside, the views from the restaurant are stunning. Although the rooms are slightly snug they were nice and clean, warm and freshened...

The Ship & Castle is a really friendly hotel with excellent food. My husband has slight mobility problems and we were well looked after with a walk in shower and raised toilet seat. We traveled with Shearings and were taken on some lovely scenic trips around the area including a lovely river cruise on the Fal and visits to Port...

Location was excellent, hotel room rather cold due to radiator problem. When it did work the noise was horrendous so we had to complain several times. Manager was excellent and very helpful but one female non English member on desk was totally unsympathetic and shrugged several times when we complained the day after we arrived. Restaurant staff excellent although they...

Thanks for your review. I am glad you had a good all-round experience whilst on holiday with us. St Mawes is a beautiful part of the world and is a real treat for hikers and ramblers, especially with the South West Coast Path on our door step.

I visited here as a single, self drive customer of Shearings holidays on a four night half board stay. I had a harbour view room on the second floor which was well appointed and comfortable although the shower lacked power and was prone to a change of temperature without warning. The hotel itself is a typical Shearings hotel which is in...

Thank you for such an honest account of your stay with us. Our Seaview rooms are definitely worth pre-booking because they boast a great view of the harbour. I am pleased you enjoyed the food and found the staff helpful, our live entertainment performances are currently every Tuesday and Thursday evening which are enjoyed by a good number of hotel...

The hotel is right on the harbour front with good views, but St Mawes is pretty small so no where is very far away. The room and ensuite was clean and airy, but a bit dated. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast (cooked or healthy) hearty. The price we paid was very reasonable and we felt the hotel to...

Hi Steve I am pleased you found St Mawes an appealing place to stay. We do indeed offer a diverse range of breakfast items both hot and cold so as to cater for the wide variety of our guest’s preferences. Unfortunately you must have taken the alternative route to the parish car park as access is generally level. Overall I’m...

We had a wonderful holiday at this beautiful venue. The food was wonderful, the staff were even more wonderful - even if they were under too much pressure at peak times. We went with Shearings driven by a local man, Steve, who knew all about the district and the trips out were excellent. We only gave this holiday four stars...

Thank you for your review, I am pleased that you enjoyed St Mawes and the tours within the surrounding area as well as our food. A good place for lunch if you like sea food. Not a huge menu which is nice, with plenty of fresh dishes on it. Daily specials board.Nice atmosphere to the pub even on a very wet day out of season, would recommend bagging a table in the conservatory.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Where the Rivers' Fal and Percuil meet to join the open sea, St Mawes boasts the perfect picture postcard retreat and at the heart of the village, right on the quay you will find The Ship and Castle Hotel. Once The Ship and Castle Inn, and a warren of small fishermen's cottages (remnants of which can still be seen at the rear of the existing building) The Ship and Castle is now a 54 bedroom hotel with all the charm and character one would expect for its location. Our bar and lounges offer the perfect location for a peaceful day in St Mawes watching the world go by, or enjoying a traditional Cornish Cream Tea. We have a selection of sea view rooms which understandably are in high demand and are well recommended to make your stay that little bit more special. ... more   less
