We booked to stay for 2 nights in a Fistral hybrid suite. Room was nice and spacious for the 3 of us. A couple of the pillows were like rocks though and there’s no turn down service. On arrival we headed into the terrace to get some food. The atmosphere wasn’t great however it was gone 3pm so most people were having afternoon tea. I ordered the pumpkin salad which had the GF symbol next to it. I am not celiac but I am gluten intolerant. When the food arrived I had a couple of spoonfuls only to realise that it was not GF as it appeared to have couscous or some other type of grain mixed within. When I asked the waitress she wasn’t sure so she took it away to check. On return she said it did have gluten and that I never mentioned to the waiter that I couldn’t have gluten. The symbol implied GF so I am not sure why I should have to state an intolerance when in general the sign is there to let you know that it’s ok. I was then told to pick something else off the menu. I picked the burger with a GF bun and was then informed they’re would be a 25 minute wait. So I sat and watched both my husband and daughter finish theirs. When my husband went to sign the receipt they had charged us for both the salad & burger. In my opinion we shouldn’t have been charged for my meal at all. The aqua centre is very impressive and define geared towards a relaxing couples weekend away. Slightly disappointing that children are restricted to 3 of the pools 2 of which are very small. Today on our last day I asked for GF toast with poached eggs after about 5 mins I am told that they have run out of GF bread. My husband waited over half an hour for a mushroom omelette without cheese which then turned up and had cheese in it. Overall the stay was not what we had hoped. Staff are inexperienced, not very friendly & don’t go out of their way to make it a special stay. As the subject states this is really a 4* and not a 5* hotel. Unlikely to recommend or return ourselves.

Had the best welcome from Sarah, Concierge & Giselle, Reception. We've stayed at the Headland a few times before however not visited since the new spa was added. Sarah took us for a quick tour. She was so friendly it was like being with an old friend. We loved spending time in the Aqua club. It was so refreshing especially the bubble seats & the outside Jacuzzi. We left there so chilled. Our room was really comfy & had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing with a huge range to chose from. The service was fantastic , so friendly. As always we felt we didn't have long enough at the Headland. Especially as we had the most gorgeous weather & we were looked after so beautifully. Hopefully we'll be back soon for a longer stay.

My wife and I had an incredible experience at the new Aqua Club. We couldn’t have asked for more. The staff were welcoming and made us feel completely at ease and relaxed from the moment we walked through the door. Each pool offered its own unique experience; there is certainly something here for everyone to enjoy. Whilst being busy, it didn’t feel overcrowded. Staff also subtly ensured people rotated out of pools were they to be in for too long and children were kept to the appropriate areas. Although we are local to Newquay, we felt like we were on holiday for the afternoon, with staff delivering drinks to wherever we were relaxing at the time. Headland, you definitely delivered. We will be back!

I booked the one of the sea view cottages as a PLAN B due to Coronavirus for my husbands 30th and I can honestly say our stay was incredible. On arrival we couldn't have been made to feel more special, we got access to the facilities before check in, they offered to look after our luggage for us, asked if we would like newspapers daily and a wake up call! The facilities are absolutely breathtaking and are 5*, we hadn't been away in over 2 years and we both felt a little emotional at how perfect everything was and how we were made to feel so well looked after by every member of staff. Having two completely luxurious spas on site was heavenly, it was refreshing that one was adults only for a peaceful evening after a long day. Our sea view cottage was very cosy and spotless with the best view we have ever experienced on holiday, our cottage looked right over Fistral beach which was very special. My husband had a Birthday card from the hotel, a box of clotted cream fudge with a headland balloon attached, chocolates, bottle of wine in the fridge and rose petals and swan towels on the bed, just a huge amount of little touches and details that meant the world to both of us. Breakfast was the best we have both ever had, the amount of choice is actually unbelievable, you can also request eggs benedict, omelets and even pancakes. I could say a lot more but the word count is not allowing me, so a huge thank you to everyone at The Headland Hotel and Spa!!

We try and visit the Headland every year, as we enjoy the views and pay the high cost of around £350 per night inc breakfast for an ocean view room. This time we had a turret room. The room is tastefully decorated with a great view of the ocean. It had a large en suite bathroom which was not up to the 5 star standard. Tiles were dirty in the shower, with no where to put your soap/shampoo while showering, apart from a filthy hinge on the tiles where they may once have been a shelf, so they went on the floor. It generally needs a deep clean. There are two sinks I used the right one and turned the cold tap on to do my teeth and was surprised to find the right hand tap was the hot one, nearly scalded myself, my wife used the other bowl which is as it should be with cold water on the right, just weird! There was a box of tissues in the bathroom with just two tissues in it these were replaced the next day by another 2 tissues to make it look full again weird, and a sign of cost cutting. The toilet was also old and in need of replacement. WIFI is a joke in our room kept dropping out, asked reception to sort it out and they said they would get their IT guy to get in touch, he never did. So the Hotel doesn't have all wifi coverage as advertised. We went downstairs for a drink on the terrace and ordered from the bar on our way out, the drinks were delivered promptly and I asked the waitress if we could get food shortly as were planned to eat in the terrace restaurant, yes no problem she said. So at around 4-25pm we said can we have a table please? NO the kitchen is closed...What??? so decided to go in the lounge and order a club sandwich or something as we have done in the past, again NO you cant have anything till the Samphire restaurant opens at 6pm. So despite the signs at the gateway to the hotel saying all day food it actually does not do all day food. Also empty glasses left around and used tissues used to wipe tables. So we went off site and were glad we did. Next day went down for breakfast, ordered a coffee and a tea, my coffee arrived luke warm, I noticed there was some small Flora margarine packets on the table, I asked for butter and the astonishing response was we don't have any butter...WHAT??????? 5 star establishment this, it was the talk of the dining room! I got some bits from the buffet breakfast which consisted of a sausage difficult to cut as it was so hard and bacon you could tile a roof with just plain awful, asked for a refund and got it and cancelled any future days breakfast there. Had breakfast at the Fistral beach cafe which was superb, and yes they had butter, suggest the Headland staff go there and see how it's done. In conclusion we didn't spend much time at all in the Hotel as the service was poor, food poor and cleanliness poor. Sorry we wont be back, a real shame as we have been coming for several years and spent several thousand pounds there. It's a 5 star hotel as they keep reminding you, actually nearer a 3 star, No doubt the hotel will blame staff shortages and Covid, if so tell everyone the issues and reduce your prices.

Thank you for your feedback. Our turret rooms are totally unique and have magnificent ocean views. I am glad that you found yours tastefully decorated, however, I do sincerely apologise for your bathroom not being presented at our usual standard. We have now had it deep cleaned and thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am very sorry to see how little you found to enjoy here, especially as a former regular guest. Wifi is perfect in most rooms in the hotel, but it can be temperamental high up in the turrets. I am sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. There would have been a welcome letter in your room explaining the opening and closing times for each restaurant. At the time of your stay the Terrace closed at 4.30 p.m. So, again , I am sorry if you did not realise this. We are now serving evening meals there once again. We use blue paper cleaning rolls to wipe down surfaces with anti bacterial spray as this is more hygienic than using cloths. With regard to our temporary shortage of butter, this was due to delivery issues beyond our control. It is a well publicised national problem at the moment. I am glad that the cafe you visited had butter at the time, but it could be that they have not had the same drain on their stocks as a large fully booked hotel with demands for butter at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We regret that you do not intend to return to The Headland, but we send you every good wish for the future. Kind regards Wyn Pheby
