This beautiful hotel in Cambridge city centre was a former University-owned building on Trumpington Street which has been transformed to enhance its many quirky architectural features.Forty one bedrooms and suites, some with private terraces, have been carved out of the former University-owned building, alongside our trademark bistro with the first Hotel du Vin open-style kitchen and curiously labyrinthine cellar bar. Dating back in part to medieval times, Hotel du Vin Cambridge boasts a cosy library, private events room perfect for special occasions, meetings and events. The bistro and bar are available for residents, locals and visitors alike at Hotel du Vin & Bistro Cambridge.

Hotel du Vin Cambridge offers a stay that is met with mixed feelings by guests. The service is a blend of warm friendliness and occasional disorganization. While the hotel's central location and charming atmosphere are frequently commended, some visitors find the value disappointing relative to the cost. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded in the rooms, though common areas sometimes fall short. The rooms themselves are cozy and comfortable, but there are remarks about noise, maintenance issues, and dated decor.

It would have been 5 but we were not offered the valet parking
Otherwise we had a wonderful stay in a ground floor very dog friendly room. She even had her own bed and water bowl provided
The air conditioning made a big difference given the weather and the bed and chair and footstool were very comfortable
Lovely staff who were very helpful, apart from the parking, and the food in the bistro very good. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order so no rubbery eggs
Great city centre location and highly recommended

I'm afraid £360 for a one night stay including a very average breakfast just feels ridiculous. This is the most we've ever paid for one night, anywhere, and it didn't live up to expectations. The downstairs area of the hotel, towards the bar and in the loos should have tipped me off when we arrived; the loos hadn't been cleaned for some time and certainly hadn't been cleaned between our Saturday arrival and Sunday departure. The carpet and stairs are filthy. The place looks scruffy and a bit grimy.
Our room was lovely, if not especially clean, having paid £60 to upgrade, but the friends we came with hated their room; dirty, torn wallpaper, noisy and generally felt like we were being ripped off with a promise of "top notch" hotel that was far from it.
Breakfast in the Bistro on the Sunday morning was okay but no more than that. Bread ran out, fruit ran out and so on. Not a problem in itself but staff had to be asked to replenish. Only two servers that I could see so it was slow, and our server had a filthy shirt with buttons open around his waist. Not a great look.
Generally, this was an average stay at distinctly above average prices. We will not be returning.

I stayed here for 2 nights, solo travelling for work. It happened to be Valentine’s Day and I arrived to a rose and some chocolates in my room with a welcome note which was a lovely touch. The room wasn’t huge but had everything I needed - tv, fridge, water, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was large with a bath and powerful rain shower over it. The bed was large and comfortable. The room was clean and nicely decorated. There were a couple of small imperfections like a chip in the sink but nothing that would affect my experience. The bar area is lovely with cute little areas to sit. Staff were all very friendly. The breakfast was fantastic - continental buffet with good quality items and hot food is available to order - I can definitely recommend the Eggs Benedict with Oak Smoked Salmon, delicious! Also included in my room rate was a glass of champagne each night which was also a nice touch. The location is perfect and very central. I used the public car park about 1k/10 mins walk away. I would definitely return, thank you.

Lovely hotel and stay only stayed the one night. Perfect location lovely room but by far outstanding hospitality and service from staff - Habiba was just delightful.
One tip they recommend parking at £30 a night but we managed to get on street parking just 5 mins away . Free after 5pm - 9am

This used to be a nice hotel, but it has gone downhill since our last stay. The prices are very much 4*, however the standard of the place has dropped and it is no better than a 3* at best. The suite we booked was shabby, wallpaper missing, there were half-eaten chocolate bars left in the room, we went to go to the bar which was supposed to be open from 3pm and it didn't open until 5pm.

In the evening we were expecting to eat in the bistro as we pre-booked, on the evening when we arrived they said there was a function on and said we had to eat in thje Library! Why they didn't inform me at time of booking or upon arrival I don't know.

The food was being trabsferred from the Bistro through the hotel to the library and service was slow and poor. They charged me for the meal even though we booked on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis and we had to argue with them to remove the charge.

On top of this, we paid the hotel £30 for car parking in a different hotel down the road, they took the money but obviously didn't follow through with any process as we today received a £100 parking fine.

Trust me, there are better 4* hotels in Cambridge than Hotel Du Vin, save some mony and receive better service elsewhere.

Incidentally, we raised all of the above point with Hotel Du Vin and unsurprisingly heard nothing back from them - which just goes to show the level of custoemr service this hotel offers.

The hotel is in a great central location, only a few minutes walk from all points of interest, whether you are shopping, punting, or planning to eat and drink in one of the many fine Cambridge establishments. We held a business meeting on site and were hosted very well, with great facilities. The hotel itself is a little tired and showing signs of age in some of the rooms and public areas. It is still very good, however, it does need some investment.

I would like to single out one employee, Amara, who looked after our meeting room requirements, lunches on both days and breakfast. It isn't easy co-ordinating a group of 9 people and their requirements and she coped very well, always with a smile and very willing to help.

The check-in and departure were easy and very slick, something that can be painful when looking after 9 guests.

In summary, great hospitality, but please spend a little on upgrading some of the areas.

Almost cannot bring myself to be critical of the hotel as we have been fans of H du V since the first one opened in Winchester many years ago with the late Gerard Basset. (World champion Sommelier).
However speak as you find and our two night stay was less than acceptable. Parking in Cambridge is a nightmare and they have a deal with another local hotel so you can use their car park for £30 per night. It is a ten minute walk and in good weather may be pleasant but otherwise not. Outside there are metered spaces at £1 per ten minutes.
Where you pull up to offload it is quite dangerous as the gutters are about 20 inches below the pavement and road level. In the dark you could easily break your ankle.
We had booked a classic room £435 for two nights. It was small and cramped. The whole hotel is shabby and the bathroom had a cracked basin. The toilet was not cleaned between nights and no diy brush either. The safe didn't work and where there should have been a light inside the door, there was just a switch. It was therefore impossible to set the a/c without a torch. No instructions either and if you are not familiar with this type of a/c control you would be lost. You cannot open the window and the view was simply back yards of other buildings.
The staff were excellent in the bar and restaurant. The menu was interesting and all food ordered was first rate and surprisingly both nights had few diners.
On check out which is rather early there was a rush from several rooms to leave. The receptionist said we had another £261 to pay for extras and asked was that about right? I replied that it might be, but it would be helpful to see a bill. She seemed quite surprised. It was ok including those irritating service charges. It seems that when I stood at the bar to buy drinks it warranted a service charge!

I remember how wonderfully stylish Hotels du Vin were in their early days. We were given an upgrade to a 'suite' in the attic of the hotel which seemed promising, but we found the room very dark with high windows and battleship grey decor. It's as if the HdV style has been taken to an uncomfortable extreme.

Our room was equipped with a beautifully comfortable bed and deep bath. However on the drinks front we had only one English breakfast teabag and 4 tiny plastic pots of uht milk to last us. Fresh milk in a reusable container would be infinitely nicer and more in line with the eco principles espoused n signs around the room.

5 of us stayed here for two nights in March. Luckily we only had to climb two flights of stairs to our room which like a lot of the rest of the hotel is showing its age (you get the feeling they take the money, and a lot of it, without putting anything back) but who designs a bathroom with no room to put anything, it was just hopeless. What really got us was the way of charging which was, to be kind, not transparent. When we booked we took the option of money off dinner and breakfast. When we actually had dinner we would have expected a bill showing the cost less our discount but no, we were told it would be discounted from our bill. The food was nice, nothing spectacular but nice bit the breakfast was certainly excellent. Having left I find that there is a discrepancy between the amount on my bill and the amount they have charged to my card. We wait to hear.

This was our second visit to this hotel, we needed to be in Cambridge Monday to Friday for two family occasions. The best deal available was the two night winter break so we booked direct with Hotel du Vin to put two of these together and paid up front for a delux room. We were very happy with the room, extremely happy with the restaurant , the quality of both breakfast and dinner , and the helpful staff who served us there. The problem was very much the attitude of the reception staff. We arrived at 2:10 to be told that check in was three and to go away until then. There was no offer of checking with housekeeping to see if the room was ready as is often the case in most hotels. Our cases were taken to our room whilst we were passing time which we did appreciate.
After the first two nights we found our room keys were no longer working and were told that this was because it was a separate booking, fair enough but no smiles or apology. When checking out this morning and settling the bill, we were told that we hadn’t paid for the second two days , luckily we had email proof that we had paid but there was no apology or any acknowledgment of their mistake. What a pity that the reception staff don’t match up to the restaurant staff.
