We stayed here when we were attending the Carol Concert at Bristol Cathedral. Great central location. The first room, on the third floor, was great, really comfortable with a Juliet balcony and a huge bathroom. When we returned from the concert the noise from a nearby club stopped us from going to sleep. When we spoke to the staff they were really helpful and moved us to another lovely room, with an equally fantastic bathroom. This room was on the first floor over the front of the hotel….which looks over the very noisy main road. By now it was after midnight. We didn't sleep well or much. The age of the building means no double glazing. Breakfast was also fantastic. So leaving a review which reflects the hotel is very difficult: the accommodation and staff were professional….. but the sleep quality was non existent! But the noise was outside the control of the hotel and they tried their best……. Would we stay there again….NO!

Overall our 2 night stay was very good. We had been upgraded from a classic room to a suite ( we had to pay a contribution towards the upgrade) and the room itself was very nice. However I did not realise that this was a dog friendly hotel as nobody had told us when we checked in and given that my wife is allergic to dog hair, we would have struggled badly if we had been given a room which had been used by someone with a dog. We discovered it must be dog friendly when barking came from the adjacent room as we left our room ! We were also disappointed that dogs in the bar area were allowed on the seating and no member of staff questioned this, imagine sitting down on the same seat where a hairy, possibly dirty, dog had just been sitting? The food was ok, but the menu was quite restricted with a choice of only 2 steaks and the one I chose was of mediocre quality, something I’ve never had at other Hotel Du Van locations. Our first morning breakfast definitely used reheated sausages as they were like torpedoes, the second days breakfast was recognisably fresher.

Response from Andrew Thresh, General Manager at Hotel du Vin Bristol

Dear Geordy99, Thank you for your feedback yes we are dog friendly but the cost of a dog stay includes thorough cleaning afterwards from which we have never had any allergic reactions or complaints I agree dogs should not be on the furniture and whilst I have never seen it I will re iterate to the teams.Regarding re heated sausages I can guarantee that this has never happened the few sausages left if any are either consumed by the staff or given to any resident dogs Regards Andrew Thresh General Manager
