What a wonderful place, the hosts cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. It's like visiting your favourite holiday cabin, with friends you've been holidaying with for years. Space to relax, space to sit in the sun, or the shade and enjoy some quiet time and read a book or just gaze at the beautiful surroundings.

I have stayed at Bimblegumbie many times over the years, and have always felt compelled to return.

Even now, living in Zurich I often reminisce about this charmingly quirky destination, and I am bound to visit next time I cross the pond.

I don't even know how to describe the feelings that this magical place evokes, but I was initially drawn to the lodge as it is so dog friendly. As most of the surrounding area is classified as a national park, dogs and cats are forbidden (those rangers dressed in green are out to get our furry four legged friends), so Bimblegumbie is pretty much the closest you can get to the snowfields with your dogs.

Also the location on The Alpine Way is aligned to my personal requirements. It is possible to get to any of the ski resorts without hassle, and Jindabyne is only 10 minutes away. Sometimes it is beneficial to not be in the middle of all the action, but still within reaching distance.

But this is only a smidgen of what this charming sanctuary has to offer. Your host Pru Parker started the business, and for the last 30 years has poured her heart and soul into it. Every pore of the house oozes her quirky, charismatic charm. It is like Pru has opened her private home for you, which makes it all the more endearing.

If you are looking for a sterile, anti-social environment this may not be the place for you. This is by no means an insinuation that it lacks privacy, on the contrary: it is the perfect place for it.

One of my favorite places on earth.

And my dog Bruce loves it too.

I first stayed here in the 1980s and it made such an impression that I remembered the name for a stay last week. It still exudes the same warmth and cosiness of a home away from home, that it did way back then. This bed-and-breakfast style place is something organic with its books and collectables and tasteful yet eclectic surroundings - you could never design it the way it is, its just grown that way. Nice warm wood fires in winter. Love it!

the 'Penthouse' accommodation for 5 days during the summer hols is a dud! For $175 p/n, you expect decent curtains if there are 2 lamposts shining into the room all night and curtains on the other windows (which don't have any all) to block out said light at night and the 6 o'clock sunrise that burns a hole in your forehead every morning! You also expect a fan of some sort because it's summer and cracking hot at night (no air-con here), a flyscreen on the door to stop the flies/mozzies the size of golfballs and proper cooking facilities as advertised/charged, including (minimum) an electric hotplate, a pot/pan for soup, utensils and a kitchen sink. Washing up dishes in a tiny ensuite bathroom sink is very ordinary. And yes it's doggy-friendly (and our mellow border collie x loved it) but annoying yappy dogs (from guests and host alike) spoil it for everyone else. Last but not least - the roar of highway traffic noise when sitting in the garden adjacent to our room. Certainly not the pleasant summer break the website
had us believing it would be. Maybe the other accommodation - not the 'Studio' which is just as bad but for other reasons - is better?

I stayed at Bimblegumbie while skiing at Thredbo. It is convenient to the snow, being about half way between Jindabyne and Thredbo, and close to the Ski Tube.
You do need a car, though, as everything is a drive away.
Bimblegumbie has a real homey feel - I think it is Pru's family home which she is now using. The place is filled with the mementos of a lifetime - there is not a shelf that is not filled with books or glassware or photos. There are picture rails that are adorned with family shots and souvenirs. Pru's two small dogs have the run of the house, and one of her staff turned up with her dog in the morning, so beware if you aren't a dog fan.
My room was in the main house and had a shared bathroom. The room was small, although it had a double bed and a bunk bed over the top of a cupboard. The bed took up the majority of the room so the door wouldn't open fully - I had to turn sideways to get through. The bed was comfortable and covered with a soft cover and lots of pillows. There are bedside lamps but only one power point, so one of the lamps has its cord stretch out which means it fell on me when I rolled the wrong way during the night.
There is ample shared living space and a large TV for the evenings.
Being ski accommodation, warmth is important. The rooms and living areas were reasonably warm, but I made sure I stayed close to the fireplace to stay at a comfortable temperature.
The drying room is outside but is kept very warm and works effectively.
Breakfast was included and is good for this style of accommodation: cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt and eggs, plus some proper coffee (not instant or drip filter).
You need to go out for dinners, and there is a restaurant a few hundred metres down the road but I did not eat there. Otherwise you will need to go to Jindabyne.
Overall, this is a nice place for those who like to socialize and be welcomed as a family member. It does, however, come with the downsides of family: shared spaces; lack of privacy and dogs.

BimbleGumbie is a Gem hidden away in the Crackenback forest just off Alpine Way. We had a Lorikeet and a Cat stay with us in a room in the main building. I stayed for six nights and my friend stayed for 9 nights. Our room was small but comfortable. The shared bathroom and toilet was not ideal but did NOT cause inconvenience. I understood that there are other rooms that could be booked with private bathrooms if that’s your preferred option. I can’t really describe this as a hotel or a B & B. It’s like Home; an amazing home.

My typical day was like this:

Wake up after a comfortable sleep
Full good quality Breakfast with five star friendly service with Prue, Craig and her team
Chat with the other friendly Guests
Half hour later, and we are at Perisher or Thredbo
Amazing skiing
Back to Bimblegumbie
Put the ski gear in the drying room
Get changed, shower relax, talk with other friendly guests
Off to dinner with a good choice or restaurants at Jindabyne or Just next door at Crackenback Farm
Enjoyed the rest of the evening in front of one of the two fire places in the common area

The gardens at Bimblegumbie is like a Sculpture park. I recommend a walk around the grounds to view so many of those interesting surprises out there.

If you can get to this part of the world, I recommend Bimblegumbie for comfortable accommodation and a mix of meeting great quality people with great quality skiing.

This place is put simply a home away from home! My husband, dog and I were welcomed with open arms and enjoyed the many quirks in the garden. Our host couldn't do more to make us feel welcome and our dog was allowed with us at all times. We didn't want to leave and will be returning!

I had a great stay with dogs and friends. The Little House is a fun "tiny house" with luxurious beds featuring down mattress toppers. Plenty of heating. Delightful grounds and bush walks keep the dogs happy. A dog pen lets you safely leave the dogs while you head off to the snow. An experienced host makes for a very relaxed atmosphere.

Hi there and I do apologise for the late response to your very kind words on Bimblegumbie and your stay with us. It is very much appreciated to know that you enjoyed your stay and liked lots of the "special" features around the property and of course in the popular Little House. I do like your description too as the Tiny House... Makes it all the better when guests enjoy their stay. I look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the Snowy Mountains... for whatever reason. All the very best, cheers Pru.

Three of us stayed in the little house and it was an absolute pleasure. This is a quirky property full of character without skimping on comfort. The house had every creature comfort we could have wanted except for a bathtub which may have helped after days of skiing but the shower was so great I didn't miss it. Walk around the property with your camera as there are so many artistic displays of how to turn junk into amazing works. Loved it and would definitely go back.

Hi there and thank you for your lovely words on your stay with us here at Bimblegumbie, We loved having you here and am very happy that you enjoyed the "new shower" in the Little House.... We will try to work out a way to incorporate a bath into the Little House for that luxurious feeling after a great day of mountain exercise. I agree that it would be just the thing. I also apologise for the long time lag in responding to your words... They are very much appreciated and I do hope to see you again in the future. All the very best to you. cheers Pru.
